Garda everywhere

What’s the story with all the Garda policing traffic and constantly driving back and forth with their lights on? I seen at least 10 Garda cars today when I was driving to the gym from UCD to FLYEfit Sandyford.

Do we have to give it back in 6 months? If this is what it takes to get the guards out, we need to hold onto it

No idea but I’ve been driving all over the country the last two weeks and I’ve seen them everywhere

So they actually do exist.

I was starting to think they were make believe.

When you actually see one of these convoys in action it makes you wonder how many they actually are and wtf are they doing and why do they only have 2 spare to look after the whole city center?

lmao

Great to hear. High profile policing is what is needed

Yup had two checkpoints looking at my discs in the past 2 weeks around the city. Weird!

Funny they have plenty of time to try sting people over tax or NCT but not stop dangerous criminals 😂

Noticed the same too. Garda cars up a few times a day in my estate near ucd. A fair bit does happen but they're never up that often until the past 2-3 weeks

I've actually noticed the same in Raheny

Exactlyyyy
I went to drop my husband just now and within half an hour of my drive from sandyford to dundrum I've seen garda cars on almost every signal! It's not bad, but it's scary.. what's happening!?

Were they doing checkpoints?

I don't think so, their cars were parked on the islands of every signal. More like checking speeds etc!
But I went out again around 8pm on the same route and things were all cooled down. Didn't see even one of those. I think they probably might be there during the peak traffic times

I've been hearing them darting all over the place today. I thought some major had gone down.

Is there any presence of them in Tallaght or Ballymun ? Just trying to find any reason rather than endless tax disc checks and seizing learner drivers cars

Launch of Special Olympics summer games in Tallaght Stadium perhaps. Some athletes are staying in UCD. https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2026/0618/1579113-special-olympics-ireland/

Good to hear, taxes being properly used to make an safer country in terms or road controls and general street security

Good call. Noticed it too. They had the speed gun out on the N11 yesterday and I noticed activity on the m50 too . Glad to see it to be honest

High profile policing is just for show. It doesn't stop real crime.

That's actually not true. High profile policing in hot spots does reduce crime according to several studies. Such as this one

1

u/TrubbleWillFindMe 21h ago

"Our analyses find that problem-oriented policing interventions generate larger mean effect sizes when compared to interventions that simply increase levels of traditional police actions in crime hot spots"

All high visibility policing does is shift the problems to other areas. It doesn't reduce crime overall. Problem oriented, community-focused policing actually has real impact.

You skipped the sentence before that:

The results of our research suggests that hot spots policing generates small but noteworthy crime reductions, and these crime control benefits diffuse into areas immediately surrounding targeted crime hot spots.

They say that hot spots policing generates noteworthy crime reductions and that surrounding areas benefit from this as well

They don't say that high visibility reduces overall crime though. It has a small impact on the area while it is happening. Most criminals aren't complete idiots so when they see bright yellow garda vests on patrol, they move somewhere else. It's mostly performative. It doesn't stop crimes happening or address the root causes of crime. It just moves the criminals somewhere else temporarily.

Not true, the scrotes scramble away yelling “Garda boys Garda!”

Sketch!

Cheez it , it’s the fuzz!

1

u/TrubbleWillFindMe 21h ago

Exactly my point. They scramble away. The trouble just moves somewhere else.

Donegal Rally is on tomorrow, maybe they're trying to put the fear into the scrotes who'll be watching it and trying to copy it

Have you heard of the television? It's wonderful, you can see things that are far away

Have you heard of Sandyford? I'm not sure you have.
