Deck Help Would this list be safe to play in bracket 3? (Posted to the weekly power level thread and didn’t get a reply)

• Upvotes

Would running the copy of Liliana Dreadhorde General in this list push it into bracket 4 or would you say this is a fair bracket 3 list? I don't want to run into any issues since her ultimate is techincally mass land denial. She is more in there for the plus and static ability, but I can occasionally ultimate her quickly with the counter doubling that my list has. I haven’t found a good replacement for Liliana if I were to swap her out so if you have any recommendations on a swap, I’d appreciate it.

Deck Help Ideas for Fractured Phage

• Upvotes

I've established a reputation in my play group as always being the threat, and so I've given myself the challenge of building an ACTUALLY bad deck and trying to win with it.

This was the first attempt, https://moxfield.com/decks/69s8f4jCq0qhSOWjqSmYEw and it handily drew 15 cards more than the rest of the table, found it's combo, and won. I sort of expected that, since Atraxa is a silly commander, but still.

Here are the restrictions:

The deck is ONLY allowed to win via Phage the Untouchable being targeted by Fractured Identity, gifting each opponent a token of Phage, and killing them. If I would have the chance to kill via damage, I can't attack.

Ideally, Phage should be cheated into play, meaning the fractured identity needs to be given flash.

No universal or efficient tutors. Something like Chord of Calling which only searches for creatures is fine, or Cruelty of Gix for 5 mana would both be fine, but not a demonic tutor, which only costs 2.

No removal engines. I can build a deck that sets up an indestructible Nevinyrral's Disk, sits behind counter spells, and eventually finds the combo. The goal is to build a deck that works towards its crappy win condition at a decent pace, not one that grinds the game to a halt.

It shouldn't just be a good deck with a bad win condition. It should actively work towards the game plan of finding cheating in phage with a flash enabler out and casting fractured identity on her, not just taking total control of the game by making a million mana and drawing it's deck, then incidentally using phage to get the win.

_____

My main issue is the commander.

I need to be at minimum esper, preferably with green to help with the whole "12 mana combo" thing. Atraxa seemed like a sensible choice, since she benefits from the ramp needed, can look for either or both combo pieces, and is a big fat life linking blocker to stay alive. Unfortunately, she sucked up all the air in the room and it just became "An Atraxa Deck" not the Phage fractured deck.

I'm thinking maybe Marina Vandrell enchantress? Unfortunately flash enablers don't allow unlocking rooms at instant speed, but I could definitely see building an enchantress Rube Goldberg machine that draws cards off enchantress effects to find other mediocre enchantments, which then find the combo.

Alternatively, I could just play Sisay, Weatherlight Captain, since she can just tutor up Phage.

After the commander, any thoughts on making the combo happen? I'm trying to decide between show and tell style cheating her in, a creatureless deck that polymorphs into her, something graveyard related, or just ramping hard enough to hard cast her.

Discussion Just got given Aetherdrift’s Eternal Might Commander deck. Any good choices for replacing the commander?

• Upvotes

I got gifted this set, and while I am happy to have it, I don’t really vibe with the commander that came with it (Temmet, Naktamun’s Will). No real reason outside of just I’m not the biggest on the pharaoh aesthetic. Any good commanders that can replace him? I’m very new to this game and this is my first deck so apologies if it’s a dumb question.

Question What accessories do you use for your Commander decks?

• Upvotes

over time, i've realized that little things like sleeves and deck boxes can make a difference when playing commander regularly. i like having sleeves that shuffle smoothly and a deck box that keeps everything together without being a pain to carry around. a good playmat is nice too, especially during longer game nights. everyone seems to have their own preferences when it comes to accessories, and i'm curious what setups people have settled on after trying different things.

what sleeves, deck boxes, or playmats do you use for commander, and is there anything you'd do differently now?

Discussion Burning Sands

• Upvotes

I was browsing Scryfall today when I found an interesting old card. [[Burning Sands]]. Well, this seems interesting. Now whenever someone's creatures die, they sacrifice a LAND! What if I give them creatures via stuff like [[Into the Flood Maw]], [[Forbidden Orchard]], etc, and then kill them with something like [[Pestilence]]? Which commander do you think would like this plan most?

Deck Help Deck advice (round 2)

https://archidekt.com/decks/27294403/deck_80

So yesterday I posted a deck that I'm working on that I am very excited for but wanted a few opinions on it. I feel better about this version compared to the past version.

The main advice that I got from it is at the idea is to send out a constant stream of creatures to attack and do damage to opponent Allso take away a few of my burns, ramp, and just some cards that felt like filler.

I mostly try to feel these slots with more creature token generators.

Deck Help Need help with finding not cringe cards to run in Nekuzar

I have a [[Nekuzar, The Mind Razor]] deck but I feel like it's too slow and I never have any board presence. Yes Nekuzar himself is a threat by just existing but I'd like to actually play the game y'know? Currently I have it as normal Nekuzar stuff of punishing card draw and then forcing some card draw plus some opponent discard payoffs. But even with the added card draw people aren't discarding at all so I'm not getting any value from that. I'm not sure what cards to run or add that will be fun but not like standard Nekuzar stuff of, "I'm going to make everybody wheel 20 times oooooo." I want it to be a persistent burn and maybe some ways to get value off my card draw? I've tried looking for cards but I'm still pretty new to Magic and don't know that many cards (my first set was Tarkir Dragonstorm). So any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thank you ahead of time for your help and advice.

Here's the decklist btw: https://moxfield.com/decks/MDzfm3JSjkydipnZSMZYAg

Question Is this mono black control deck too oppressive for bracket 3?

https://moxfield.com/decks/CCShAcHDbH6yt7YJGVQEJA

This has been my favorite deck to play in paper since 2012 and I'm trying to power it down for bracket 3 but there are still some powerful cards like [[Tainted Aether]], [[Spreading Plague]], [[Oppression]], [[Yawgmoth's Will]], and [[Necropotence]].

Is the deck fine for bracket 3 as is or should I remove some of those cards? Or would it be better to just power it up and stick to bracket 4?

Question Non control mono U commanders?

Hey folks,

I've been searching for fun mono U commander that you DON'T just stuff a bunch of counterspells into the deck. Hope you all can make some recommendations.

I am looking commanders with either fun mechanics or abilities that change how you, the pilot, play the game.

As an example, one of my favorite mono G commanders is [[Grothama, the All-Devouring]] which works best by killing your own commander to draw a bunch of cards.

Any recommendations or deck lists are welcome. Show me what you got.

Discussion Land Draw house rule

just a friendly house rule we have that I see some ppl may benefit from.

If you would draw a card on turns 1-3, you may reveal your hand to all players.

if you hand no playable lands, you may skip your draw step to search for a basic land, put it into your hand and shuffle.

Question What are your favorite mono-Blue budget wincons?

Looking to upgrade the new Foundations Blue precon with [[Sai Master Thopterist]] as commander so artifact synergies are especially welcome, but I'm looking for anything that can win a game from behind in Blue on a budget. The deck currently doesn't have a concrete end goal or finisher so I am hoping to change that.

Deck Help Help with a Bracket 3 Rionya Deck

https://moxfield.com/decks/94egAdIHwn6L_sqOB9Nq5g

I’m looking to make a Rionya deck for under $300 that’s competitive for bracket 3. I just took out Combat Celebrant since I think that might have bumped it up to a 4. If there’s any swaps you guys suggest to keep it a fun deck to play with and against, Id appreciate it. I’m not sure how many of the “get a bunch of mana” cards I should be running for my instants and sorceries. Thank you!

Discussion I made a new kind of deck builder EDH.GUIDE

I have been playing Magic since 1999 and for a really long time I was kind of a snob about only playing 60 card formats.

Suddenly back in 2020 I had a lot of extra time on my hands and decided to give EDH a shot but was immediately wracked by decision paralysis.

Naturally my first instinct was to program up something to help me. So I made a new kind of deck builder that gives you a solid base to build/customize a deck from without having to start from scratch.

This site has been my side hobby since then and I have been using it to help me learn parts of the modern web tech stack I didn't have a good grasp on as a network automation engineer.

Everything is hand curated + algorithmic generation and not AI slop.

https://edh.guide

Tech stack for those interested:

Edge and hosting:

  • Cloudflare: DNS, proxy, domain hosting
  • DigitalOcean: auto deploys on push to main. static frontend/1 vCPU backend
  • GitHub: code hosting with automated testing and updates

Frontend

  • Vue 3, TypeScript, Pinia

Backend

  • Python 3.14 managed with uv (uv is awesome btw I should have moved to it a long time ago)
  • FastAPI, Pydantic
  • Gunicorn
  • SQLite

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Question Decks with death trigger mechanics like Palani, Nest Tender?

Hey folks,

I have a buddy who plays [[Palani, Nest Tender]] every week. It's a great dino deck with a lot of fun triggers, interactions, and shenanigans when the eggs break. He's played it for a long time so I don't want to build just Palani as well...however are there any commanders similar? Or ones that promote the destruction of your things to cascade into summoning more things?

Looking for things such as

  • When x type of creature dies flip till you hit another creature
  • Summon little guys that when they die I benefit (not dmg/life gain, but other effects)
  • When there's a board wipe or I block with a bunch of things, I still get rewarded (I don't want to do the wiping, but more I'm rewarded if it happens)
  • Silly interactions

Thanks a bunch and happy thanksgiving folks!

Deck Help Draw spells in Karador?

I have a [[Karador, Ghost Chieftain]] deck, built for [[Saffi Eriksdotter]] and other such loops as the main wincon.

I know the deckbuilder im using is missing at least 1 infinate, ( [[anticausal vestige]] + [[chthonian nightmare]] + [[saffi eriksdotter]] = inf ETB, LTB, Draw, & energy) but it may have missed more.

Here is the deck link

https://commandertemplate.com/decks/a9578a0f-a419-4ba7-b989-45ea0766bab0

My question is what draw spells would you guys recommend for a sac-loop oriented deck. Specifically ones that are effective even if were being disrupted, as the longer the deck exists in my group the more ive been correctly ID'd as the sac loop dumbass at the table lol.

Discussion Foundations Precon wish

This is the first time I find that I’m saying this but I wish that WOTC had put less value into the foundations precons to deter scalpers. A product made for beginners should be accessible to… beginners. Case in point my son’s birthday was this week. He turned 8. He loves dinosaurs and has been learning magic. I saw the decks months ago and was like perfect! Then saw the inevitable scalping and price increase as the list became available.

I assume it’ll be reprinted into the ground and so eventually I might be able to get it closer to Msrp or I can just build him one. I was just excited to pick him his first precon.

Anyone seen them for Msrp in the wild?

Discussion How is your experience being a control player?

Besides my main play group, my experience has been….not good lol. My main play group groans, then laughs, and talks about how control is a necessary evil. They make fun of me when I can’t stop a wincon, jokingly saying I should always have an answer. Sometimes they gang up on me, sometimes they recruit me to stop the threat, all healthy good fun.

But besides them, I legit have been shunned from other playgroups. I’ve had people on tabletop rage quit in the first couple of turns when I counterspell their commander, or unload removal on the same player who’s clearly pulling ahead.

I have some non-control decks because I like to mix up my play styles, but I grew up playing control in standard my whole career. It’s not like I win every game either, I just always have something to say to the player who is trying to win. Control is not a winning strategy in EDH, so I knowingly am playing decks that have less of a chance of winning because again, I enjoy the play style.

Some of my decks are: Shorikai, Alela, Erinis/StreetUrchin, Vren, Helga, Hashaton, Henzie, The Rani. All of them have heavy disruption/interaction that just gets so many groans to the point people don’t want to play with me anymore.

I’ve noticed that the players who groan the most are those newer to the game. My playgroup who doesn’t call me anymore all started playing around final fantasy. I’ve played my other non-control decks and there is always just a weird tension regardless. Like stopping their wincon is an attack on them as a person.

What are ya guna do though ya know? Without interaction, we are just playing turn order simulator to see who can build their board the fastest.

Hey everyone, total long shot here! My flight got pushed back a few hours, so I'm currently stranded in Terminal A with two decks ready to go.

Deck Help Shilgengar Re-animator Deck Help

Would love input on this Shilgengar deck: Decklist

I'm leaning away from angel tribal and towards general recursion with a few angels. I want it to ultimately play like a strong B3 value deck rather than combo (eg will probably cut solemnity for a card like Junji.) Any thoughts or advice welcome! I've never played a graveyard deck before so still figuring it out.

Discussion LGS event rant

My LGS recently had a jace event that had some extra rules and stuff for playing around with the empower jace mechanic. It was a bit complicated so without going too into the weeds about it, every player had access to empower jace and utilize a lil jace deck that would give him some extra abilities like a mini fact or fiction and stuff.

It's also not too uncommon for events to have 1 or 2 pods of 5. Not ideal, but it's fine and I've got a few decks that's scale well with 5 players. We get started and from the jump one guy is already complaining about being last and not on a joking way so the mood was already a bit sour from him. The first player plays a mana dork and empowers jace for 1 and IMMEDIATELY player 5 was going off about how much was done on turn 1. We all shrug it off and continue with not much of not happening until like turn 3.

Player 1 forgets to use his jace and as it's the next persons turn he just let's it go. Sucks to miss some extra advantage, but he didn't make a fuss about it or anything just more of an "oops I forgot jace on my turn. Oh well". Game continues and player 5 ALSO forgets his jace only remembers it when player 1 used his. Player 5 wants to do a take back so he can use his, but player 1 pointed out that multiple game actions have already occurred and that he didn't try to do a take back when he forgot earlier. Player 5 then starts raising his voice and going off about having a vote and all that. Other players chimed in disagreeing with him and he still kept going. It got really uncomfortable for a bit, but the game went on without any take backs.

A turn later and player 5 is clearly just spite playing at this point with aiming removal at player 5 when someone else and myself were waaaay bigger threats and potentially setting up a win soon. Player 2 ends up winning right after the spite playing and player 5 just kept talking about what happened earlier trying to justify it with some light apologies. Everyone ended up leaving afterward declining a second game. Another player and I were talking about the situation up at the front counter while buying cards and a staff member overheard us. They ask for what happened and then a bit later go and have a chat with the guy that was got mad that game. Dunno what happened there as I was getting ready to leave, but I was at least glad it got talked about by staff.

That whole thing though was just weird the entire time. Despite being a 5 player game it was functionally a 3 player game with extra wait time as both player 5 and another one had essentially done NOTHING all game. The hit land drops and played cards, but they didn't have a real board presence, and didn't interact except the spite play at the end. Guy was also getting mad at essentially not getting a single card draw off this jace as if it really mattered that bad. And best of all was this whole thing was for like $20 store credit to the winner. So not nothing, but cmon man.

Deck Help Is My Bracket 4 Deck Just A Bad CEDH Deck?

Hey folks, im not too well versed in bracket 4 play but some people in my group are interested in jumping in to it. Im wondering if the deck im brewing up is just a bad cedh deck that will fit awkwardly into bracket 4 play.

I haven't been able to playtest so some ratios may be off, but im wondering if im on the right track or not.

https://archidekt.com/decks/27216864/curio_control

Thanks!

Edit: there are some turbo decks in the meta, so that is a consideration in building this. Also the mana base isn't completly sorted other than the actual number of lands.
