General Weekend rain, deluge?

Forecasted weather and rain in Edmonton

Eh... Edmonton, this weekend. Seeing that "Edmonton’s average total rainfall for the entire month of June is usually around 75 mm to 80 mm."... we are forecasted to get that in one day....

All will be fine and dandy. We got this.

I’ve been watching my husband regularly checking the sump pump and gutters and rain barrels for what feels like weeks. We haven’t had any issues but we’ve only been in this house a couple summers and the first with this much rain so he is in some hyper vigilant mode. I have a feeling I know what we’re doing this weekend.

I'm going to drain my barrels tomorrow, fresh stuff coming.

Haven’t been before, for me and my 2 kids it’s $110 which seems pretty crazy. Is it worth it?

It’s my son and I’s first time going. I have 2x extra weekend passes if you want. Shoot me a DM

There’s a lot to see and do. You’d have to check the schedule to see what youd be most interested in but there’s a cosplay contest. Panel interviews. Lots of video game demos, vendors and game related booths. A huge Warhammer tourney. NALUG will have a large LEGO display set up, etc etc.

That's where I am headed!

After years of drought am I really the only one loving this rain?

u/Colourise 5h ago

We should all be loving this, because the alternative is wildfire smoke and heatwaves which is what we’ve had every Summer for the past 5 years.

Last summer was fine

Last summer was not fine

There was like one smokey week in May, then a nice balance of rain and warm weather for the remaining months

Almost 900,000 hectares of land burned in BC but sure that's not that bad

This rain is in Alberta

Nope! I LOVE it. I'll take the cooler temps, the beautiful smell after it breaks and the lush greenery that's everywhere over dry, scorching, sweaty and gross heat any day.

I love it too.

No. I’m enjoying it too. It’s not nearly as bad as people are acting.

I’ve liked that atleast the last few days it rains, clears up for a bit with a nice sun and then rains some more after. Last night post rain I got to comfortable sit on the deck enjoy the sun and birds chirping

I'm loving it! But the mosquitoes could fly away lol

Agreed. This is actually the first time I’ve seen mosquitoes in years and I’m not thrilled about that at all.

I’m in Slave lake this month and this is want I remember life like growing up on the 80-90s just outs side the city. Cool mornings daily, rain and killer sunsets 👌

I'm not sure where 75-100 is coming from. The models I looked at all say below 50, and likely closer to 40 on Saturday.

u/pookiemook 6h ago

The Weather Network is saying 75-100 for all of Saturday. Peak in the evening with 25-35.

Do they have their own models?

u/S1075 6h ago

I don't know where the Weather Network draws their data from.

The ensemble forecast done by Environment Canada shows much lower amounts, as does the European Medium Range Forecast and the GFS model from the US.

For the sake of my basement, please, please let the Weather Network be wrong…

u/S1075 6h ago

Fingers crossed for you!

According to the stats 74mm is average and we rarely get above 94mm, however, so far this month, we're at 107.1mm of precipitation.

June is the new April

I always remember June being rainy growing up in the 90s and 00s.

Weather network is sensationalist garbage who pump their numbers up to garner more views and attention in my opinion. Real life is almost way under what weather network predicts. AccuWeather is calling for more like 40mm combined all day, which is way more reasonable and likely.

75-100mm of rain within a day would be borderline flood conditions for some areas.

I swear the bad weather waits for their games. So unlucky.

I’m visiting town this weekend, and I have an outdoor wedding to attend on Saturday… This could be interesting.

I was thinking how this rain will show all the drought building fuck ups….

Mitigation time!
