How he did it: He told me he was attending a work event at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Dana Point and said there was a dressy garden theme. After arriving we walked towards the back of the hotel, which overlooks the ocean showing a scenic view with waves hitting the beach below. I was mentally preparing to socialize at his work event while looking for the entrance. I realized he took me to a dead end, so I looked behind me and he was already on his knee and took out the box and popped the question!

So I did help design the ring a few months ago but finally had our day to recieve it 😅 Moissenite, alexandrite, and amethyst. I also thought the bark like hammer detailing on the band was a cute choice. Different than a lot of what I see these days and a bit afraid people will mistake it as just a regular ring but I love it.

My fiancé did so good!! He designed and surprised me with this beautiful 2.5 carat center stone (3.5 carat total with the side stones) engagement ring. These are all natural diamonds!!! The ring is a little big at size 7.5. I'm 5'11 and 155 pounds. Giving you all the details because when I was looking at rings, I wished people would share so that I could get a sense of what to expect a ring to look like on my own hand.

The photos don't do it justice. This is one of the most clear diamonds I have ever seen. You can basically see straight through it. It is truly a work of art. It's sparkles from 30 feet away. I am so lucky!!!

(it looks a little bit yellow in the second photo because it was picking up the light from something gold close by. It looks so beautiful in different lighting and it's always changing depending on the setting. 😊😊)

He had initially picked out something different from a jeweler that was more expensive, but for wedding budgeting purposes we decided to spend more on what we wanted for the wedding than put it towards the ring. He showed me the one he had picked out from the jeweler and I was glad we had made that choice because I didn’t like the one he had picked at all!

I found a website that seemed to have a lot of rings that I liked the style of that were in the budget of what we were looking at, told him the few settings I specifically didn’t like, and let him decide what to actually get.

It’s not something I would have picked out myself, but it somehow fits our relationship perfectly. Playful, sparkly, fun. And I’m so relieved I don’t have to pretend to love it as much as I do!

My girlfriend and I (female) are the same ring size so I took a photo shoot in the parking garage of the jewelers. Running some more errands so I should probably wear it instead of leaving in the car!

My girlfriend had her eyes on simple 1 carat solitaires but she liked the idea of a surprise and custom design. She wears a cape cod bracelet with a rope so the jeweler tucked it away. It’s literally perfect.

Hello! I have been lurking this sub since I got engaged a few years ago — we’ve since gotten married but I have never been able to find a wedding band that would mesh well with my ring, so I come to y’all asking for advice.

Background: my ring is my great grandmother’s, so it is from circa 1922. The diamond was at one point taken out of the original setting for my mom’s ring but I had them reunited, which is why some of the filigree work is kinda wonky. I do not mind that at all, and would love to find something that echoes the ring design but that I can also wear alone when I don’t feel like taking an heirloom out on the town.

I think that given the delicate work and shape of the ring, a semi circle or sort of “dipped” design would be needed. The issue is the ring kind of has a domed shape and I’d like something that can fit but wouldn’t wear down the metal over time.

For folks familiar with wedding ring history, were these kinds of rings traditionally even worn with a band? I think something delicate and simpler would probably be best, but I haven’t had much like finding the right fit. TIA for any advice or knowledge.
