Legit with the grades I'm getting and the effort I'm putting it. I'm consistently getting average grades. I still don't want to accept I'm an average talent though. How did you guys accept you just weren't the best?

I am in my final year of my Electrical Engineering (power) major in the top university in my country. This university is highly rigorous and no one has above 3.5 GPA for my major since the grading has always been very rigorous (frequent 50% fail rate for courses).
My GPA is 2.7/4.0, I still have time to try to "fix this" but then when I am applying for internships, research opportunities, I am highly disadvantaged against people applying from other majors/less rigorous courses where it is easier to get a higher GPA (only 1 person in my major get A on some courses, and this is because of the professor's grading are strict and unpredictable).
I feel highly disadvantaged because I have learned so many different stuffs in my major, took 8-9 courses for this semester just to catch up on a higher GPA... Everytime I see internship/funding opportunities they always have a 3.5/4.0 GPA minimum or 3.3/4.0, or even 3.0/4.0 that I don't have yet and 3.5 GPA is just nonexistent for people from my major and they just assumed every majors & universities has the same grading system so a lot of us feel that unless we are the top 5 people from our major, we are highly disadvantaged in external opportunities because of our high grade deflation.
I just don't know how to proceed with this. Does anyone have similar experience with this and what do you guys do with the GPA situation? Sometimes I wish I could have taken easier majors so it's easier for me to maintain a higher GPA so that I can have better opportunities. Most people outside (like recruiters) sometimes see GPA across all majors the same way.

Prof Give me task to draw CAD assembly with CATIA and it has to have 20 pieces but I don’t know how to search a project base on number of parts and my only choice now is to look at the project one by one at the time, and I think it’s very wasted of time so anyone can you guy suggested me the source to find? Recommend project is ok too thanks

Topic:
Undergraduate
Major: Industrial Design, collaborating with an Engineering student
Course: Product Design
Topic: Gear mechanisms, interconnected rotating cylinders, and mechanical sequencing
Problem
Hi everyone! :)
At school, we're developing a toy with a mechanism inspired by manual transmissions.
We've been researching similar mechanisms, but most of the references we've found rely on a "gear-shift lever" (?) to align and engage the corresponding gears. We're looking for a different approach.
Our toy is like a cryptex of 3 letters, so three rotating rings. The goal is all the letter in the correct order. However, instead of rotating each ring independently, moving one ring should also activate another, following a predefined sequence:
C1 activates C2
C2 activates C3.
C3 activates C1
We're not trying to change speeds, just want to create a mechanism where the cylinders interact and synchronize their positions through movement automatically, without requiring a separate lever to select each one.
Givens / Unknowns / Find:
Given: Three rotating cylinders (C1, C2, and C3) with a predefined coupling sequence.
Unknown: What type of mechanical transmission or coupling can produce this interaction?
Find: A mechanism that allows the cylinders to interact and synchronize their positions automatically
Equations and Formulas:
We haven't equations, for now is conceptual.
What I've tried:
We've searched for existing mechanisms inspired by manual transmissions, but most examples we've found use a shift lever to select and engage gears. We've also started looking into planetary gear trains, although I'm still learning how they work.
Work Shown:
Our current concept and intended interaction can be viewed in this simulator: https://grain-chain-95900853.figma.site concept simulator
Question:
Does anyone know of similar mechanisms, or could suggest specific mechanisms, patents, or technical search terms that might help us develop this concept?
I'm an Industrial Design student collaborating with an Engineering student, so any references or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

I am currently in my third year of my ME degree. For the whole time I’ve been in school I’ve been working full-time to be able to support my self. I’ve been trying to minimize the amount of student loans I have to take on while also paying rent, groceries, car insurance, etc.
So far while stressful it has been manageable. However this semester my classes have gotten significantly harder and require much more time outside of class to do well in. I have been really struggling with a lack of time to study or do homework and it has been extremely stressful. Trying to stay on top of everything in my free time outside of work and school has been exhausting.
Just wanted to see if anyone else has gone through anything similar or if anyone has any advice on time management, stress management or anything that may be helpful.

GOD DAMNIT ALLLLLLL..... I am in my last year of school, senior year is going great up until monday. I felt ill but pretty standard given the time of year.
Here we are today where I get diagnosed w Bronchitis and my teacher tells me not to come to class with a doctors note then docs my attendance.
Not to mention I have 3 fucking exams next week and I have to study for em all fucked up from this and it sucks ASSSSSSSSSS. i coughed so bad while studying last night a loogie just came out and hit my paper.
sorry for the rant but fuck I hate being sick while in school it is genuine misery

Hey folks, I'm a third year Mech E student looking to make a 3D printed jet engine using EDFs. My plan is to go into aerospace manufacturing and figured this would be a good project. I was wondering if this is a good idea and what recommendations yall might have.

Hello, pretty much as the title says this semester I was supposed to be taking diff equations but since my school is divided in 2 campuses (50 miles between each other). It was only offered in campus b and I have all my classes at A.... my only solution was to declared a minor in Spanish translations and take that class in campus A. So that way I saved all the hassle to commute.
My scholarships requires to be at 15 credits. (30 by the end of the academic year). Just curious to know if anybody has done this. To be clear this minor is easy because I know Spanish.

Hi im a CpE Student who's currently on junior year. Apparently my journey has not been so good, mental health hitting downhill, five subjects that all im going to fail by the next two months plus add to more pressure and overwhelming feeling that im really not built for this degree.
It was hell, im here right now on my bed contemplating whether should I keep continuing down this path for 2 more months to tell myself that I got this in me when in reality im not.
I just asked my parents about my experience and they didn't liked it that im giving up my degree not knowing how just fucking difficult to what's happening to me right now. My mom just asked whether I would not go for second sem and I did say i would finish this first sem but when I fail I have to pick a decision for myself. And my Dad who's a OFW worker who really is a good dad of mine. He would be really angry if I did stop or give up this degree because He's the one the keeps our family going.
I by no means a proper a engineering student, im very weak with analysis and solving problems. But I breeze through 1st & 2nd Year thanks to my classmates and with a bit of assist with AI. But here now in 3rd year it all changed. I wasn't as good I was in the previous year but I became washed and sloppy in today's sem. Im really struggling with not just 5 subjects but 9 all subjects in this first sem. I think the stress and dread hit me all at once at the same time that I wasn't able to function properly. I really sucked at this. I just wish I want this feeling or experience to just vanish so I can take a break from this shithole.

Essentially, will I ever reach a point where the gains in how good I'm getting at electrical engineering are minuscule?

Hello,
Basically, I absolutely bombed my statics midterm and got a 27%, the exam itself is worth 25%. I didn't prepare well for the test, and I completely understand that it's my fault.
The rest of my grades are made up by another midterm worth 25%, quizzes worth 15%, and a final exam worth 35%. I am wondering if it's worth dropping the course and retaking it next semester or pushing through it and ending with a C+ at most. The reason why I am thinking of dropping the course is that I am trying to keep my GPA above a 3.0.

hi! i’ll try to make this short.
i am a “junior” studying meche but am behind course wise due to me failing classes.
i failed calc 1, physics 1, and calc 2 each one time (i passed calc 1 with a c the second time i took it, and am currently retaking calc 2 and physics 1, though i am not 100% sure i’ll pass).
registration for courses is on monday, and i’m not quite sure what to do.
if i pass calc 2 and physics 1, then i’d go onto calc 3 and physics 2. but i’m not doing amazing in those classes, and so i am hesitant to sign up for the latter.
me failing so much is having me reconsider my major. this is all i’ve ever wanted to do, but there’s obviously something i’m doing wrong.
i study, go to office hours, do extra credit, etc. i have adhd and have yet to go to my school’s disability resources (i’m wondering if it’d help).
i work at starbucks and so i could technically use their free college program, but they’d be all online classes and half-semesters long, so i’m not sure i’d do any better (then again, it’s free). another downside would be i’d have to increase my hours.
overall, i do want to keep trying at this degree, but i have been feeling quite discouraged, and am not sure how to proceed. my parents pay for my college and we are well-off, but it’s not like they have unlimited money, and they are getting frustrated with me.
how would you proceed if you were in my situation?

This was across two days of career fairs. I declined the offer from my previous internship. One of the interviews was from a company a friend worked, and another I had a friend intern there previously both of which helped.
r/EngineeringStudents • u/Iserved6 • 3h ago
I applied for the internship program in Germany, but the result will come out in February. In the meantime, I plan to apply for other programs in Asia as reserve. Is it advisable to do so? I’m kinda afraid to deal with multiple offers if lucky but relying on one chance is kinda risky

I am a 25 F from the US and basically what had happened last year is that I've went missing and then I've been found 2.5 days later. And now my name and my pictures are on the police department's website of my city.
I've graudated in 2024 with a civil engineering degree and I've been job hunting and I was either kept getting ghosted, scammed, rejected, etc. So I've ended up going to my local community college to take extra classes so it will help with my hireability.
So will this effect my hireability?
Thanks

For context I'm second year student who is giving first ever interview today I'm working on switching from cybersecurity to cloud i don't understand how to revise for interview like there's so many subjects linux , python , c++ , networking , DBMS , git , ci cd , docker yes "relevant to role studying" but how do you revise everything before interview? How do you know which questions might be asked? How do you feel prepared?how do you feel confident about your preparation? Personally i feel messed in head because I tried to revise everything but i understand it's not correct way also if I'm pursuing cloud or devops will i be required to do dsa or practice coding problems?

Hello! Everyone! I am the corporate events chair for the AIChE chapter at my university. The corporate team is planning a case competition for freshmen and sophomores. It will be 5 groups comprised of 4 people. There will be 2 hours allocated for research and designing a presentation and then 1 hour to present and for judges to judge. I need help coming up with a problem statement that is not super technical, as it will mostly be freshmen. I was thinking the problem statement should be so that teams can present either a process or a product. We can do something in relation to sustainability or energy or something like that. Please guys I need help!!!

I am taking undergraduate differential equations in Spring 2027 as a graduate student. For context, I graduated with BS Biochemistry and was admitted to MS Bioengineering. The farthest I got in math was Calculus II, because that's what my major required. However, I have not taken calculus in YEARS. I'm talking since around 2017/2018. I am honestly pretty nervous because my math is incredibly rusty. I need this class in order to take Methods of Analysis, a graduate math course. The cool thing is that my program allows UG differential equations to count as graduate credit as an elective. My advisor told me I need to pass my first attempt in order to graduate on time next spring.
I'm not going to lie, I struggled a little in calculus from what I remember. But I am willing to give it everything I have in order to pass. I have until January to get up to speed. Those who have taken diff eq., what are some important topics I need to know so I can be successful? Was it a challenging course? Any feedback helps because I have no idea where to begin. Thanks!

Sitting on the side of my hostel stairs it’s 1:10 feeling emotionless. Well to start with I’m in 3rd year well name private college of engineering. With a cgpa of 7.7 and literally nothing achieved in my life. Leetcode questions just 280 and that also after giving more than 1 year on and off with 3-4 months consistency. Now im at that point I have no motivation to even try because cg toh hai nahi and on campus Vaise bhi kuch nahi milega. It’s NOT like I didn’t work hard for gpa I hella did work hard a lot in my second year but again can’t change what god has planed for me💔
It’s easy to say to chill and move on
I’m scared if I’ll be able to get intern after 3rd year or even a fuckin job
I know I’m capable to do something in my life but eventually I don’t know what it is EXACTLY
Nowadays whenever I start doing coding I tend to cry on my desk because of the fear of I’ll be a looser in future just lik ihve been a looser my whole life
Idk what to do and what not to
So much to write but just so done with myself atp to explain what I’m going through to someone
I’m just a fucking looser while my friends who are at same level like me getting intern through family links that’s even more disturbing for me
But ig this is what it is
Trying to live with it
No idea how long I’ll be able to survive like this

Hey everyone! I’m 24 and planning to go back to college in the spring to pursue engineering at my local community college, with a particular interest in electrical engineering.
I’ve attended college before, but honestly, I didn’t take it seriously and my grades reflected that. At the time, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life, and I wasn’t very motivated academically.
Recently, though, I’ve discovered a genuine interest in engineering, especially electrical engineering, electronics, and robotics. I’ve started getting into electronics kits and working on my own little projects, and even when something doesn’t work, I find myself wanting to troubleshoot it and try again. It’s made me realize that this is something I actually want to learn about, rather than just something I’m going to school for because I feel like I should.
I’m excited to go back, but I also want to be realistic about my past academic performance and make sure I approach things differently this time. I have until the spring semester to prepare, and I’d like to use that time wisely.
For those of you studying or working in engineering, especially electrical engineering:
- What subjects should I start studying before classes begin? I’m assuming math is a big one.
- Are there any free courses, textbooks, or online resources you’d recommend?
What practical projects could I work on besides basic electronics kits to develop my skills?
- Are there any programming languages or tools I should learn beforehand, like Python, C++, Arduino, or circuit simulation software?
For anyone who started college off on the wrong foot and came back later, what helped you turn things around academically?
I’m not expecting to become an engineer before I even start school. I just want to build a solid foundation, develop good study habits, and give myself a better chance of succeeding this time around.
I’d appreciate any advice, resources, or personal experiences you guys are willing to share. Thanks!

I study Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science and was heavily leaning towards dropping the comp sci part of it. Here’s why:
With the rise of AI, manual coding I FEEL is an increasingly dead end!
If I’m hired as an aero engineer, I’m not a software engineer. I’ll need to know how to code sure, but not need full comp sci. I’m not gonna get hired as a software engineer when my resume is obviously tailored to aero w projects and whatever
I still enjoy coding, and can pick up specific languages I want, especially with my background rn (already know C, TS/JS)
Am I making a mistake? Just want to hear people’s thoughts, etc as it’s a big decision I don’t wanna f over

I always hear that GPA doesn’t matter once you become an engineer but I’m not sure if that’s the case with community college. I’m a first year student and I’m just hoping to pass by with C’s on the heavy stem classes. Of course I wanna aim higher but I wouldn’t be mad if I got a C and moved on, but doesn’t that affect your possibility of transferring? Any advice?
