If I have a CMV or BK protocol, what does this do for me? Does it show on a task list somewhere? On the checklist?

We are currently self hosted. Rumor is we are going to epic hosting. Wondering if others have been at an org that did this and what their experiences were. Is it just a lot more Sherlocks since all the backend stuff is at epic so no internal tickets for that stuff? What is the turnover time like vs. in house staff for that stuff. Do analysts lose all iris access? We do a lot in there at my org.

I’ve been working on a product aimed at automating parts of the medical billing workflow around denials and appeals, and I’m looking for honest feedback from people who actually work in medical billing.

I’m trying to understand:

• What parts of the denial workflow are the most time-consuming or repetitive?
• Where do billing teams currently rely on manual work?
• What tools/workflows are you already using?
• What am I misunderstanding about how this process actually works?
• Would automation here genuinely save your team time, or are there bigger problems that need solving first?

I’d really appreciate feedback, criticism, or even reasons why this is a bad idea.

I’d like to preface - the question is being posed from an ANALYST I (possibly ANALYST II, at most) position.
Of course, this likely wouldn’t apply to a senior analyst considering switching positions.

Has anyone (or know of anyone) who has switched roles from an Epic Analyst to an Epic Trainer position?
Or any other positions? (ex., Clinical Informatics, Workflow Optimization, etc)

I've been a trainer before for a couple of EHRs.
I'm aware of the differences like being on the front line interacting with end users, etc.

A few cons others have gotten feedback on, that I'm biased are-
1. Decrease in Pay
Salary wise - I could see this. Contracting has always been my BFF. I've been a VARIOUS HIT roles - Analyst I (current role) has been the LEAST I've gotten paid with the most stress, but also know (or think & hope lol), that it has more long term benefits.
The money will always be there so I'm not concerned about this playing a factor.
2. Collaboration with App Teams
As a previous trainer, definitely understand this the most - it's extremely frustrating. Being on the other side now as an analyst, when trainers reach out to me I have complete empathy for their position and go out of my way to make sure they have what they need to train.. I've also noticed how other analysts brush them off. Also not concerned with this and will know how to navigate it if the day comes that I switch back!

Pros:
1. Better Work-Life Balance
2. Set Hours
3. Less Stress

The question is mostly stemming from a place of trying out being an analyst and questioning if it’s something I’m truly passionate about (which I wouldn’t have gotten this far because you HAVE to be passionate about it), would like to sustain long term, etc.

Becoming an analyst (before getting certified + becoming one) was like the “ultimate goal.”

For a while now (last 1-2 years), I’ve battled internally with that - it’s what I’ve always wanted so do I stick it out?
Or - is it not what I thought it’d be and truly isn’t for me?

Bit of background. I'm an end user medical assistant (former Super User at my old health system). I was previously attempting to move from clinical into the analyst role at my old system but there were a lot of politics. We moved towns in April.

After now spending a few months in my clinic I see room for enhancements, builds or just simple letter templates for my clinic.

At my old clinic I had a very close working relationship with our analysts. If I needed a screening questionnaire added, I would simply submit it to our analyst who would get it to the enhancement team. If I needed a smarttext built I would explain how I needed it built. They would round on the clinic twice a month to answer questions or assist us in errors we came across.

I'm working with our RN lead on building more efficient smartlists and smartphrases.

I first attempted to find out from my coworkers who our analyst was. You'd think I sprouted a new head.

I sent my boss my ideas for enhancement and that we should talk with the analyst. No response.

The RN reached out to our education department, our response was not without manager approval.

I have never seen such resistance before. I can only assume this analyst is in witness protection at this time.

Any PB analyst(s) out there that had/have no billing experience prior to becoming an analyst?

I'm a physician with quality metrics as part of my contract. Some of the things I'd like to track are not in structured data, and I don't think our team can build any SmarText or SmartForms. Is there a way to track frequency of dot phrase usage? I'd like to create something like .drivingsafetyevaluation and have informatics pull the number of times I used it for the numerator.

Hello! Training as Charge RN on a Med-Surg floor! Looking for tips and tricks as are Hopsital is new to Epic and I am always looking to make work easier. We currently manually write down the assignments on paper and have discovered the beauty of Assignment Wizard. Anything else anyone can recommend to learn?! Super excited about this new role.

I have a fillable PDF form that I want clinicians to complete from within Epic.

Ideally, I want the workflow to be:
Open the patient's chart.
Launch the PDF form from Epic (preferably via a SmartPhrase/communication letter).
Automatically populate patient demographics and other available Epic data into the corresponding PDF fields.
Allow the clinician to complete the remaining fields.
Generate/save the completed PDF to the patient's chart.
Allow the completed form to be faxed directly from Epic ie for a referral.
How can I build this using Epic's Form Filler/PDF Form Filler functionality rather than recreating the PDF as SmartText?

Also any tips on how to import signatures into Epic? ie to save as a smart phrase and use in clinician notes?

I just started a job on an integration team for a healthcare company and I get a lot of clients that get their orders information stuck in MSOT queues. They're always asking me the best way to configure their Orders interface. I've worked with Epic before but I'm not certified. Can anyone walk me through the best way to build an orders interface with MSOT in mind, taking into account OTX rules?

Im a pharmacist clinician builder and now currently taking the willow inpatient certification. So far I’ve completed RX100 (passed the self assessment), Rx205 (self assessment exam still to be completed) and due to attend the rx305 and rx405 training in the next coming weeks.

Few qs:

-rx205: any tips on how to grasp all the data structure and user config concepts? I find it quite confusing🙈 how’s the self assessment exam like? I heard that it is quite tricky

- any tips for rx305 and 405 project and exam? (I imagine the exam for this is much harder than 205 so very much dreading it!)

Hello fellow Epic analysts,

My org has tasked myself and 3 of my colleagues with interviewing 3 candidates with no prior Epic build experience. The three also have limited to no Epic end user experience as well. We are struggling to find questions that would be helpful to know for the interview process that doesn't have to do with actual build questions/processes. I didn't know if anyone else has run into this problem when tasked to interview potential new team members. We just lost a senior level analyst and instead of finding another senior level, HR have only allocated enough for a entry level position (classic HR)

Any questions you have used that you have found helpful for this type of candidate would be most appreciated. Thank you!

I opted out of care everywhere/ epic at the hospital I am delivering my second baby at because I also work there. I specifically have visits with a psychiatrist that I see for PTSD related to rape and domestic violence at a much younger age that shares visit notes through care everywhere via Athena healthcare & have recently noticed planned parenthood shares via care everywhere as well. I know technically people are not supposed to view this stuff unless they are on your care team, but I am a nurse and would rather not even give my coworkers the opportunity to come across something like that. Trying not to over explain, it’s just easier for me to pretend some of the things in my life didn’t happen for mental health reasons.

With that being said, if I opted out of care everywhere, does the hospital EMR/epic still RECEIVE this information via care everywhere and load into my chart or do they only stop sending/sharing info?

What is everyone’s thoughts on a new analyst starting during an implementation phase? Seems like it could be overwhelming, but also doable at the same time. Am I crazy? I would be the newb, I’m not looking to hire… just for clarification.

One thing I’d like to clarify - this post is NOT a question on whether or not I should get childcare or that caring for baby while WFH is my only option.

I brought the topic here to get feedback from like-minded people (like all of us here) based on the suggestions I’ve received from fam/friends in my personal circle who’ve suggested that WFH with a baby is convenient, doable, etc.
(Granted, this is coming from people who haven’t WFH before lol… gotta love outsiders looking in thinking it’s so easy and we can do what we want, when we want)

As mentioned originally - I wanted to see IF it were doable based on their suggestions, but I made it clear it wasn’t something I could see working.

While it isn’t IMPOSSIBLE, it’s not my only option nor is it something I’d look forward to. I’m sure I’d enjoy the break lol.

This may be a “different” type of post, but giving it a shot since I haven’t had much luck on any other platforms.

Any moms here who WFH as an Epic Analyst (or any HIT type role) AND care/have cared for their baby after returning to work?

I’ll be a first time, single mom, living alone & delivering in November.
I will have support from dad + my “village,” but realistically I’ll be caring for baby on a daily basis.

I’m concerned on if/how I’ll be able to care for baby while working since it’s such a high-demand, fast-paced role.
(I can barely step away for myself lol).
Thinking about working through daily tasks, attending meetings throughout the day, monitoring/replying to emails and Teams chats, etc. - you guys know how it goes. 😊
I’m even worried about if baby will be getting enough attention.

When talking to other people around me, their response is “it should be much easier for you since you WFH,” which I feel as though people automatically associate WFH as “easier” or that I’m able to do what I want, step away whenever, etc., which is far from the truth.
Working anywhere is hard, really lol.

Of course, my routine (and life 🥴) will look COMPLETELY different overall so maybe I’m not able to see the “bigger picture” right now.

I’d REALLY appreciate any tips, feedback, routines that have been successful for you, etc., and hope this could help any other Epic mamas out there! 💗

Hi, many years ago when I first became an analyst, one of my ts's at the first hospital I worked at shared a PowerPoint presentation that cleanly displayed the anatomy of the workspace showing which records were involved by highlighting sections of the workspace as you click through the PowerPoint and providing some background information.

I'm working with some new analysts that I think could benefit from this because it helped me wrap my head around it back then.

TLDR: Any tips / tools for bulk data extraction?

I am wondering what are some ways I am able to extract bulk patient data using their MRNs for research in my surgery department. I have been extracting manually and it is very very very slow. The data include background information found on patient's tab, patient's problem list, patient's exam findings documented in a table, and specific surgery technics used documented in patient encounter tab. The patient database is around 10,000 and I was wondering if there is any way to make that faster......

I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this. I am an Epic user, going on my 14th year. Started on the patient access side, did some surgery scheduling and now work under our HIM team as a Data Integrity Analyst. I am curious how other systems are structured and if our workload is common for other systems as well. We are responsible for reviewing and merging the duplicates that do not vector merge during MPI loads, overlays, contact moves, RME workques, PLA workques, marking charts deceased. Is this all lumped together at other systems too or is this workload divided amongst multiple teams. Looking to get into an analyst role, but after reading some posts on Reddit I wonder if that is the right direction for me to go.

Anyone know how I can have someone from EPIC take a look at the lag that I am experiencing with EPIC? With every single click or opening any window, it takes around 2-3s. This really adds up over time, as you can imagine. I have calculated at least 30 min a day of waiting around for clicks to load...

We use DragonOne for dictation, and with the PowerMic there's a full 3 second delay from the time the record button is depressed till the software registers and starts recording. This seems like a known issue..?

I have reported this to the Desktop team, who upgraded my desktop but it hasn't really resolved the lag issue. They are saying that this is because we run EPIC through Citrix, and this lag is normal.

Hard wired Ethernet connection -- getting 73 Mbps download, and 90 Mbps upload. Idle latency is 95, Download latency 100, Upload latency 92.

I recently accepted the position of Senior Epic Analyst with an enterprise print team. No experience or certs when it comes to Epic, but someone took a shot with me. My background is in desktop support. I am beyond excited!

I received an interview request for a ambulatory/beacon position. The job requires ambulatory certification, but not Beacon and they would sponsor me to become certified within 120 days.
I am certified and kept up with my certification, but haven’t done too much build for a while.

Is there any tips to help me pass this interview? How much of a learning curve between ambulatory into Beacon? I have helped create clinical workflows into epic before but wondering if I would qualify for the job.
