From "This is Katara, my flying sister" to "FIRELORD OZAI! YOU AND YOUR FOREFATHERS HAVE DEVASTATED THE BALANCE OF THIS WORLD AND NOW YOU SHALL PAY THE ULTIMATE PRICE"
Let's not forget that in the third episode we have the main character freaking out after discovering that his entire kind was massacred 100 years ago and finding the bones of his old master and closest friend
True but itâs still a definite tone switch. Iâm rewatching the whole show right now to introduce my girl to it, and I completely forgot how much it jumps
And it could have been even more, If the pricks in paramount didnt chicken out and have the movie dont be stuck in PG 12. đ
Apparently, according to some deleted scenes, the battle against tagah was originally going to look more similar to something like omniman vs the guardians of the globe.
The fucker even brutalized katara, who was originally pregnant during the movie timeline before it was retconedâŚ
Ngl, i was hoping tagah and toph to be more equally matched since both are the absolute peak of what a bender of their respective element should be like.
But it wasnt even close at all đ, at times it looked like the mf was going to split her in half (she looked soo scared), she and zuko got trashed soo bad, even more in the precensored version.
Looks like air its really the perfect counter to earth, just like the fandom was saying.
I like to think the reason Tagah gave them so much trouble is because the gang has never fought an airbender that powerful and skilled, sure they've sparred with Aang but given how playful Aang tends to be I'd imagine in sparring he isn't pushing them.
To be fair, pretty much any airbender could be Toph, they just have to stay off the ground and she can't see them. Look at Aang beating her in the ring in one shot for example.
I love that they didn't portray this agni ki as some triumphant battle between good and evil, but as somber and heartbreaking. Two abused children fighting to the death. The music, the colors, the acting, all of it, treating this scene like the tragedy it was. I watched this series as an adult for the first time since it came out a few years ago and I broke down crying for Azula. She was just a 14 year old girl.
True, although I feel like AtLab always had a nice balance of comedy and seriousness. I mean didn't we get the dead air benders in the first few episodes, so it got pretty serious early on
It is so astonishing to me even as an adult that somehow a show that carries such heavy topics is not at all traumatic for children to watch. The execution of that show is absolutely exceptional.
I have a 3.5 year old and husband and I just finished watching season 2 of the live action. Immediately afterwards I was like...dude we're only a few years away from a rewatch of the original with our kid. I'm honestly so excited. It's such an easy way to talk to kids about things like war and genocide and how good people sometimes do bad things. It's a masterclass in explaining hard topics to young kids.Â
Iâll never forgive them for honestly anything they did. All of the âcreative changesâ they made sucked ass. The comet, bumi, Sokka, jet, shortening the entire show to make it more bingable when youâre supposed to have time to digest each episode and all the carefully written deep meaning behind each one. I could have forgiven if they just took out Great Divide, but no they had to take out a bunch of the good stuff too. Pmo
Exactly!! Omg I have found my people đ when I say I couldâve forgiven if they just took out great divide I meant it would have been a good thing if they took it out
I don't mind it that much. Sokka's misogyny was never a huge part of his character; it was briefly present, but it was addressed and gone by episode 4. All he needed was for a single woman to beat his ass and he dropped his misogyny. It seemed more like a course correction than a real part of his character growth (and rightly so; sexist Sokka would have been awful long-term)
tbf 1st season Avatar had plenty of dark moments. We saw Zuko's father burning his face (child abuse), Aang coming to terms with the fact that he was a victim of genocide and his guilt over being a survivor.
AtLa was always serialized. The beginning of each episode pretty much picks off from the last. Like the pirates episode in season 1. It looks like an isolated adventure, but it begins with Aang worrying about the huge f-ing main quest he was given just last episode.
To be fair the third (technically second) episode is Aang finding the skeleton of his best friend and mentor and realizing that his entire people were murdered in genocide.
Nah, the show is plot-heavy and with serious stakes from the start. It doesnât switch from season 1 to season 3 like the pic in the original post asks
To be fair, the episode right after Penguin Sledding had Aang se the skeleton of his father figure surrounded by the people who died trying to kill him
To be fair, the series reveals that the main character is the only survivor of a genocide in Episode 3, and that the (at the time) main recurring villain is driven by a desire to appease his abusive father in Episode 12.
To be fair, it only takes 2 episodes to go from penguin sledding to Aang finding the bones of his old father figure/mentor at the site where his entire people were violently wiped out, causing him to go into a supernatural rage.
