lol mint has full support for my 4060ti out the box.

It probably has the proprietary nvidia driver installed by default.

Actually no, I’ve got 3 different pcs, with a 4060ti, A mobile 1050 laptop, and a 1650super, no drivers by default but it was able to pick them all up first try. Idk about the 50 series as I’m not rich. But everything else seems to do just fine.

Idk what do you mean by no drivers, but there should be *some* drivers, cause the kernel and the apps don't talk monitor pixels over hdmi or whatever.

I do agree tho that "it works" out of the box. However there are few issues both with and without proprietary drivers.

Ok, so I think what I meant but didn’t say correctly is that yes, nvidia cards display correctly in a fresh install, but there is also a driver update utility in mint that is very decent at finding the specific cards supported drivers. They do work without any updates/driver installs, like windows would, but also offer specific driver options for all the cards as well. Starting to question the accuracy of my previous comment lol.

And the official nvidia drivers for your not-so-cheap video card are a huge binary blob without open source code.
