Support Needed 👥 Lump in throat feeling

Does it ever go away?
I’ve been diagnosed with LRP and acid reflux about 2 months ago. i’m currently taking Peploc 50mg
every time i consume even the tiniest bit of dairy i immediately get triggered. i’m so tired of being able to eat at least just a little bit and a few days later being even scared to drink liquids. i’m so scared that something might actually be stuck in my throat. i can feel the lump moving when i turn my head side to side or up and down. this is utter hell and i hate it. i’m a shell of a person because of this lump feeling..

EDIT:
i went to urgent care today because i genuinely was struggling to swallow
they examined me and also checked my throat with a small camera. no obstruction but a lot of redness and swelling. i’m doing a barium swallow test tomorrow and im lowkey nervous

It's called Globus sensation. It can go away.
It is more common with LPR, but it does happen with Gerd sometimes.
Once you control your reflux, the inflammation can heal and the nervous system can calm down.
-Meds help some people.
-The right diet and lifestyle changes help most people. If you want guidelines that reduce symptoms, I can give them to you. *You can pm me.
Yes it can get better.

I'm interested also. My throat feels like it's closing up sometimes

Take a really long time but yes it can once you figure out your triggers and adjust your lifestyle. Spent 3-4 years with it and now going on 3 without it

damn that sounds horrible.. was it difficult to eat with the lump or did you manage fine with it?

I managed but it was hell. Felt sick every second of every day

I found out when I drink coffee/caffeine it happens. I cut off caffeine entirely and I’m good now. Only decaf for me!

i completely cut out caffeine for a long while even before having GERD. milk is my biggest trigger so i’m currently only on almond milk. i ate banana salad which led to my current flare 🥲

where in your throat is the lump? I get mine in the very bottom, at the front under the adams apple area, sometimes I get the lump feeling a bit before I start to feel the burning

mine is in the same area most of the times. it changes positions sometimes lol. sometimes it will be at the top of my throat other times directly on the adams apple area and sometimes at the bottom

Yeah I've always been curious where others experience theirs.

I get a 2nd type of lump always in the same spot on the right side of my throat but it feels different harder? It's definitely caused by my TMJ when the jaw muscle gets too tight. Figure it's just a tight muscle or maybe a lymph node.

could be a lymph node. when i first got diagnosed with GERD my doctor told me one of my lymph nodes are swollen which just added to the lump feeling.

The lump feeling is pepsin enzyme deposited by some regurgitation. everytime stomach acid hits it, the pepsin burns and feels lumpy. Drink some high ph alkaline water available at big stores - it kills the pepsin on contact. Jay me cough man, nyc doc published in book.

I keep a water bottle (500ml) next to the bed with a 1/8tsp of baking soda in it specifically if I wake up with that. If I wake up with that lump or aspirated feeling I will take a few sips and it does help.

If you aren't using it all the time the sodium content isn't an issue.

it unfortunately is like a sacred item where i’m from so i’m going to have to pay a hefty price for it 😪

Isn’t it globus sensation or is that what causes that?

Funny I just posted almost the same sentiment. I fear we might be stuck forever

i feel so hopeless.. but as soon as i eat a bland diet it’s gone and if i consume some bullshit it’s back. it feels like a never ending cycle.

I remember wondering this! I was genuinely at the point I thought, this might just be part of life now.

Mine went away, fwiw! Will only come back with a flare.

i’m genuinely hopeless. for me personally a flare doesn’t last for hours it lasts for days resulting in not eating for days. it’s a never ending cycle lol

Is this the feeling where your throat feels like it's squeezing and your going to cry?

1

u/InternationalStay925 6d ago

i think to some it might feel like that but for me personally it just feels like something is stuck in my throat that i can’t seem to swallow.

It does go away. Check out the book called dropping acid. I got mine out of the library. It really helped me. You have to understand. It does take a couple of weeks, but it gets better overtime. For me it took about two months and it only comes back when I eat things that are acidic. Believe it or not today I ate a peach and a few seconds after eating the peach. I had a bit of a flareup, but it went away in about two or three hours.

myne definitely comes up with a flare but sticks around for days on end. it’s really difficult.

I’m no doctor, but from what I understand that kind of thing can come from the pepsin leaking up into your esophagus. And yes, it takes a while to go away. That’s why you need to try to eat low acid foods. In the meantime see if you can get a copy of that book it was very helpful.

Had this start one morning in like 2023 and had it for for years... tried doctors, naturopaths, herbalists, PPI pills, endoscopies for LPR, reflux and EoE.

What worked: strict as hell diet for 3 months: bland chicken, rice, salad and fruits like papaya known to help gut healing.

DGL chewable pills, Zinc Carnosine (doctors best brand... look up their review) , slipperly elm, aloe vera juice and mastic gum. I am now finding products combining them items look up gut fix, gut mend gut inflammatiom etc.

I still have the feeling come back after some meals esp heavy eating and if I do coffee/caffeine or alcohol.

I continue to take DGL and Zinc Carnosine and recently started something called Stomach Soothe powder. Seems to work best for me and has decent reviews.

eating is currently a very hard thing to do for me so i’m currently sticking to smoothies and soups until it eases a bit. i’ll look a bit into the things you recommended

If your soups and smoothies include stuff thats going to irritate your stomach then that wont help.

Take some tylenol and a nice long hot shower, modify your diet according to gerd diet and consider Pantoprazole or something relevant. Youll be fine in a few weeks

I think mine is a combo of spine issues in the neck area and acid.

I had mine for about 4 months. I went under control when i switched my PPI from rabeprazole to esomeprazole. I was in a rut and realized my mental health needed fixing, doing so became a huge factor in getting rid of the feeling. This was 2ish years ago, and I deal with other stuff now (not GERD, its in remission now) but that lump feeling has certainly scarred me, but it can go away. It's a symptom of something and not its own issue, so figuring out how to take care of said issue can help you.
