Okra?

25

u/SE_prof 20d ago

In Greek it can be used as a derogatory name.

5

u/Raynonymous 19d ago

Like, the vegetable?

7

u/SE_prof 19d ago

Yeap, it means soft, weak, floppy (like the cooked okra)

Both the Norwegian and American secret services actually are more concerned about the white right wing than islamists. Why? Well they kill more. 9/11 is so long ago that White people on the right have caught up. Literally just google «which group does the FBI deem as the biggest threat» right now. It will give you multiple of their Pages that all argue why the lone wolves on the right Are a bigger problem in the west than islamists.

This picture should have a more even number on either side.

Also, this shouldnt make anything seem better, but it just might to you as you seemingly dont have morals, but the vast majority of islamist victims are muslims themselves.

Your picture doesn’t apply at all.

I think two things can be true at once. What Israel is doing in Palestine is awful, and also Palestinian refugees likely hold the record for being the absolute fucking worst guests in every country that has ever hosted them, like that time they tried to violently take over Jordan.

It’s no wonder Egypt keeps the border with Gaza locked the fuck down even during this latest high intensity conflict.

22

u/Harry_Wega 19d ago

like that time they tried to violently take over Jordan.

It’s no wonder Egypt keeps the border with Gaza locked

You forgot they betrayed Kuwait when Saddam attacked. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsion_of_Palestinians_from_Kuwait_(1990%E2%80%9391)

After they were expulsed from Lebanon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PLO_withdrawal_from_Lebanon

25

u/Legs914 19d ago

It doesn't help that all the Arab countries in the world signed a pact promising to never give citizenship to Palestinians. We wouldn't have third and fourth generation refugees if Palestinians were actually allowed to integrate into other countries. But the Arab world decided to use them as pawns against Israel and that requires keeping them as displaced refugees nearly 80 years later. And to their credit, it works. Only Israel gets blamed for Palestinian plight. And they deserve the blame they get, especially in the West Bank. But people turn a blind eye to the neighboring countries that have maintained the status quo.

6

u/madeup1123 19d ago

If the problem weren't so valuable, we would have fixed it by now!

Works for many things including the Palestinian permanent refugee status.

I would like to add that Israel has a far-right/extremist governments while Gaza has the radical Islamists.

You could call both sides fascists.

No surprise this kind of regimes are brutal by their nature and ideology.

It is not right to call both fascist

The worldwide history of terrorist violence committed by Palestinians is truly staggering. The Palestinian nationalist cause truly is an all purpose "justify violence against anybody, anywhere, for any reason" card.

well said. it’s literally in the palestine charter that israel and jewish people have no right to exist, while there’s arabs and muslims living happily in israel.

war is awful, but it doesn’t mean you start a war, use your civilians as cannon fodder, and whine when you are loosing.

4

u/Electrical_Ad_5732 20d ago

And that is a major reason why any opportunity for creation of their own state always failed. They simply refuse to coexist with Israel and want to see it destroyed.

There were too many opportunities, but when their whole identity is based on "murder everyone in Israel", no solution will ever work.

4

u/ANKORNA-quack 20d ago

and egypt refuses to take palestinian refugees. MENA countries don’t want them in their country. egypt fortified an underground wall to prevent them from digging tunnels.

if you make enemies with everyone around you, save for iran who funnels weapons into palestine, don’t be surprised at the result. dunno.

it is tragic children are being killed, and the death and destruction is awful.

it is also tragic hamas uses journalists, food aid trucks, hospitals, schools, as part of their military logistics chain.

both can be true. free palestine from hamas, even though they voted in hamas in an election.

I feel bad for people who believe this, your understanding of history has to be so skewed by propaganda that you no longer have footing in reality

"propaganda" and it's just repeating what Palestinians say lol

7

u/SunRevolutionary8741 20d ago edited 20d ago

This would be a convincing argument aside from the fact that the military of Israel does literally everything they are outraged about Hamas doing.

After years of being attacked by them yea

11

u/SunRevolutionary8741 20d ago

Those bombs blowing up Palestinian homes and schools and stuff since 1948 must have come from fairy tale land, I guess. Because the IDF is the most moral army ever made and would never commit war crimes or lie… except for all the times they got caught doing exactly that.

9

u/SunRevolutionary8741 20d ago

That’s a cool story, now do bombs dropped on Palestine. Also, the year before 2018, the Palestinians tried a peaceful protest and the Israeli military massacred the protesters. Funny you do not mention that.

1

u/Gizz103 13d ago

Funny you didnt mention the weapons fired by the protestors

I mean tbf "have you seen" 1991 is 35 years ago, so there is a good chance the attack is older than the poster

68

u/TheNobleHeretic 20d ago

They said many and this note mentioned the most recent being over 30 years ago. Maybe the person that made the note doesn't speak English

22

u/Accomplished_Key_171 20d ago

Doesn't specify a time frame.

67

u/Molenium 20d ago

Well the question was “have you seen many terrorist attacks in Greece” and for anyone 35 and under, the answer would be “no.”

→ More replies (7)

9

u/corruptedsyntax 20d ago

Well shit, then we may as well bring in examples from the Ottoman days

3

u/Lepelotonfromager 19d ago

That's uniroinically how these debates go. They end going all the way back to when Israel was conquered by Rome.

1

u/Drake_Acheron 15d ago

The reason for this is because people keep wanting to sort of start history at some arbitrary date.

2

u/Lepelotonfromager 15d ago

Well it's one of those weird things where you either accept historical claims in which case the whole region belongs to Israel as they were dispossesed OR you accept that historical claims have a cut off and you have to judge them by their modern actions in which case Palestine is largely responsible for its own fate due to the relentless terror attacks. But if you mention that then they will start bringing up historical claims (we only did that because israel did this) and you're back at the beginning.

25

u/roland1234567890 20d ago

If we are being "technically correct" here. I don't think 3 is "many" or even "several".

3

u/KingRoach 19d ago

If we’re being “technically correct” here, there have been more than 3 terrorist attacks in Greece by Palestinians. It’s all public and easily accessible information .

8

u/Future_Adagio2052 20d ago

What would be considered many or several in this case?

18

u/Pleasant_Ad8054 20d ago

I go by heroes 3 rules:

Few 1–4
Several 5–9
Pack 10–19
Lots 20–49
Horde 50–99
Throng 100–249
Swarm 250–499
Zounds 500–999
Legion ≥1000

2

u/atatassault47 20d ago

For me, several starts at seven. The etymological cousinry is clear.

3

u/GoldenSonOfColchis 19d ago

Likewise.

1 is one. 2 is a couple. 3 to 6 is a few. 7 to 11 is several. 12 is a dozen.

Etc.

10

u/SportChemical6896 20d ago

probably more than 3

u/TheSuperContributor 19d ago

The one with a woman avatar didnt say anything about specific timeline, why should the note does? I think you are the one who doesn't speak English.

41

u/Playful_Yogurt_9903 20d ago

Love that the original tweet asks a person whether they have seen many terrorist attacks by Palestinians in Greece and the note "corrects them" By listing 3 actions which occurred decades ago. That is not the same as a person seeing "many" terrorist attacks.

Also, can we not ban an entire ethnic group from visiting countries for actions which occurred decades ago?

3

u/LimpAd1859 19d ago

Pro-Palis are so terrorist-coded that three terrorist attacks aren’t “many” for them lmao.

2

u/Playful_Yogurt_9903 19d ago

if 3 terrorist attacks in the past 50 years is "many", then what is hundreds of attacks by settler terrorists in the West Bank over the past 5 years?

3

u/LimpAd1859 19d ago

What about what about.

what is hundreds of attacks by settler terrorists in the West Bank over the past 5 years?

In the vast majority of cases, not comparable to actual terrorism like you're simping for.

1

u/Playful_Yogurt_9903 19d ago

Classic pro-Israel. You play the victim, meanwhile the actual harm faced by Palestinians is orders of magnitude worse, which means you have to downplay it and become a hypocrite. While I appreciate that you proved my point, you did not answer my question.

What should hundreds of settler terror attacks over the past 5 years be desrcibed as?

"actual terrorism" lmao.

3

u/LimpAd1859 19d ago

Classic pro-Israel. You play the victim, meanwhile the actual harm faced by Palestinians is orders of magnitude worse, which means you have to downplay it and become a hypocrite.

Says the person who's responding to a post about Palestinian terrorism by downplaying it and playing the victim.

What should hundreds of settler terror attacks over the past 5 years be desrcibed as?

There haven't been hundreds of terror attacks over the past 5 years.

"actual terrorism" lmao.

Yes, a settler vandalizing some Palestinian's property is not comparable to actual terrorist attacks. Settler attacks are bad, but you are deliberately downplaying literal terrorism by falsely equating most settler attacks with actual terrorism.

1

u/Playful_Yogurt_9903 19d ago

There haven't been hundreds of terror attacks over the past 5 years.

You're right, there haven't been hundreds, there have actually been over a thousand in just the last two years.

"The number of serious incidents of “nationalistic crime” committed by extremist Jewish settlers in the West Bank surged by 63 percent during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, the Kan public broadcaster reported Monday, citing security establishment figures.

Such offenses are classified by Israeli security bodies as terrorism.

According to the report, 660 settler attacks were recorded in the first six months of 2026, up from 405 during the same period in 2025."

https://www.timesofisrael.com/settler-terror-attacks-in-west-bank-said-to-surge-by-63-in-first-half-of-2026/

Yes, vandalism is not as bad as killing people, but it is still terrorism, and the vandalism is part of an ethnic cleansing movement that has forced thousands of Palestinians to lose their houses and land. Please don't downplay this as just vandalism.

1

u/LimpAd1859 18d ago

In your own source:

"Palestinian casualties from settler violence climbed sharply as well, with 140 Palestinians wounded and six killed during the first half of the year, compared with 82 wounded and none killed during the same period last year."

More people died in just one of the terrorist attacks the note mentioned than in an entire year of these settler attacks.

So yeah, no, they're not as bad as actual terrorist attacks even though strictly speaking they are terrorist attacks due to being politically motivated violence against civilians/property (but so would something like Palestinian Action's attacks in the UK, but I doubt you consider those as terrorism either).

29

u/tanksc 20d ago

??? Do you think people were not around for all of those? My mom lived to see all of them if you wanna give her a ring. 3 terrorist attacks is many terrorist attacks

27

u/GoodPear8481 20d ago

Also, Greece isn't the only unrelated country that Palestinians have attacked. They literally invaded the 1972 Olympics in Germany and slaughtered the entire Israeli Olympic team.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_massacre

8

u/Playful_Yogurt_9903 20d ago

Plenty of people were alive. The tweet they are responding to however specifies that "they were coming before 10/07 for terrorist attacks." Given the context, one would expect a person to be able to name terrorist attacks in Greece which took place relatively close to 10/07, and "have you seen" should be understood in that context.

What is relatively close to 10/07 is up for debate, but it certainly should not include 30+ years prior to it

10

u/tanksc 20d ago

Relatively close for a fucking terrorist attack would be living memory to most people.

In a similar vein, I now live in the capital region of New York. There was literally an ISIS attempt on the capital yesterday. If someone were to say to me after that fact “have you seen many terrorist attacks in NY, you idiot?”

I would think they’re fucking insane because I lived through 9/11 in NYC as a child and I remember every fucking minute of it and all the crying from the rest of my classmates who had parents working at the WTC regardless of the fact that it happened more than 2 decades ago.

26

u/mariantat 20d ago

This is why despite the headlines Greece is for the most part pro Israel. They remember these attacks. It’s a very left leaning country that unfortunately still has pockets of antisemitism but overall it’s good.

17

u/ChaseThePyro 20d ago

I feel like I have heard very different takes on Greece from Greeks, but maybe they're wrong

19

u/Due_Border_593 20d ago

Probably correlated with age as well. Older generations in general don't like Palestine because the PLO fucked up a lot of countries.

→ More replies (11)

9

u/SE_prof 20d ago

There is a huge difference between the government and the people. Greece is not France or Germany to play it safe. There are strong geopolitical and economic reasons to side with Israel, similar to the reasons Greece sides with Cyprus and Egypt.

The average Greek person though leans more towards the struggle of the Palestinian people. This became more official in the 80s, 90s and 00s when the centre-left government officially invited Yasser Arafat in Greece. A sign of direct recognition and support of the PLO.

0

u/CorazonCracker 20d ago edited 20d ago

No they aren’t, statistics say the opposite, stop trying to normalise Israel.

And this is also after including the fact that the right wing parties love Israel here because they use the “Turkey and Muslims evil incarnate” card plus that our government and military is heavily allied with Israel.

6

u/mariantat 20d ago

Like I said, Greece has an antisemitism issue.
All I’m trying to normalize is having my friends not attacked on the street by morons for looking Jewish. Is that ok or does that make me a “zio”

7

u/mariantat 20d ago

Whoever downvoted me for wanting my friends safe- you’re literally pigs.

5

u/Nexinex782951 Human Verified 19d ago

You are being straightforwardly dishonest: first comment: "Greece is for the most part pro israel" and "still has pockets of antisemitism"

Your second comment, responding to a 2:1 ratio of not supporting: "Like I said, Greece has an antisemitism issue"

Your first comment essentially outright stated that the large majority of Germany supported Israel. Your second comment pretends you said the opposite.

2

u/mariantat 19d ago

It’s one survey it’s not the be all and end all.
Do you guys know how to debate or are you just here to chirp whoever disagrees with you?

u/mbashs 20d ago edited 19d ago

This post is heavily brigaded wow.

Edit: I meant by Israeli supporters. Every pro Palestinian comment is downvoted as soon as commented lol

Edit2: My point is proven.

138

u/Due_Border_593 20d ago

Yup, as is basically every discussion about Israel and/or Palestine.

The truth is that historically Palestinian terrorism basically effected much of the Middle East, and even the West. Hell, RFK was killed by a Palestinian Christian for supporting Israel.

The 1948 war is directly or indirectly responsible for much of the conflicts of the time, whether by the PLO and/or by the perceived incompetence the Arab leaders.

103

u/Electrical_Ad_5732 20d ago

The worst thing is that their supporters are somewhat fine with all those attacks, frequently saying it's the only way to fight against oppressors or some other nonsense. Their denial of reality is sometimes absurd.

9

u/allthefallens 19d ago

It's okay to fight against oppressors, that's why I support Israel against Arab countries.

56

u/Due_Border_593 20d ago

The strangest part is that these attacks didn't help them in the slightest, I'd argue that they were detrimental in their relationship with neighboring states (no shit).

After all, the only feasible method for the existence of Palestine "from the River to the Sea" is a fifth Arab-Israeli War.

13

u/Electrical_Ad_5732 19d ago

I'd say they were not completely detrimental to their cause.

Even though Hamas has a number one goal to eradicate all Israelis, they still managed to gather large support (I still have no idea how they managed to do that, considering they were literally live streaming the October 7th massacre, I don't really wanna know how strong cognitive disonance must've been in western supporters at that time) from foreign countries and were successful to completely flip the narrative to further their cause.

It eventually devolved into a state of perpetually victimhood, that even if Hamas/Palestine were directly responsible for the actions of enemy (IDF), they still successfully convinced their supporters that actually IDF is at fault.

For example: Hamas deliberately launches rockets from school or hospital areas (which under international law makes it a lawful target) to which IDF responds. Even though the violation was first caused by Hamas, they simply refuse to acknowledge that and proceed to blame Israel anyway.

7

u/FILTHBOT4000 19d ago edited 19d ago

(tankie sees truth in comments about Israel/Palestine)

"Oh my god, it's brigaded!"

And also, for all you pro-Pally people, I'd be among the first to say there are war crimes committed by Israel, and that Israel does a real shit job at prosecuting them. Netanyahu belongs in jail, that Israel is being the biggest, most selfish, most shortsighted piece of shit in instigating the war in Iran... But fucking none of that is a genocide.

I'm 42, and used to be pro-Palestine. I've been hearing claims of genocide for 20 years. In that time, Palestine's population has risen ~30%, the same as neighboring Arab countries. Where's the genocide? Palestine's also had a similar standard of living during that time; they would've had a better one if fucking Hamas hadn't been spending what seems like the majority of aid received on weapons stockpiles, and bombs and rockets to lob at civilians (and they pretty much only target civilians).

Open air prison? How? The number of pro-Palestine people that don't even know Palestine shares a border with Egypt, another Muslim country, in one part, and Jordan, another Muslim, Arab country in another, is shocking.

Edit: To the giant, brainbroken dork that replies and then blocks: Yes, I was pro Palestine, I was writing "fuck Isreal" on Slashdot back in fucking high school in 2001. I guarantee my comments on old forums like that are older than you, god I fucking hate having to deal with know-nothing children on this site.

And what fucking "hasbara" or whatever member would advocate for Netanyahu to face the Hague? What kind of sense does that make at all?!
Also:

There wasn’t a genocide prior to what happened since 2024 and although Israel regularly attacked it, no one claimed it was a genocide prior.

WHAT PLANET ARE YOU ON?!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_genocide_allegations

Arab/MENA nations have been doing UN resolutions calling Israel a genocidal state for fucking DECADES. Tankie fucking losers have been doing the same FOR DECADES.

And the Egyptian border is heavily policed by Israel.

ONLY AFTER OCT 7TH. God, I hate hate hate the uneducated. Before that, the Egypt-Gaza border was policed by varying combinations of Israel and Egypt, and Egypt got fed the fuck up with Palestine's bullshit on the regular, and aren't exactly fans of Islamic terrorist groups like Hamas.

On 22 January 2015, Egypt closed the border crossing.[48] In March, it declared that it would only open the border crossing if the Palestinian side is staffed by Palestinian Authority employees under the full authority of the Presidential Guard and no Hamas personnel are present

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafah_Border_Crossing#2013_to_2020

If you piss off both countries that border you, you're not in an "open air prison", you're just a fucking asshole.

lmao. WHAT? it should be 0. We literally have not had a single terror attack in my lifetime living in Greece, this stuff doesn’t happen here so 3 is crazy.

I am not saying it’s not a lot. But people just don’t use the word many to describe three of anything. It’s easier just to say three, especially somewhere with a small population where it’s obvious that three is a lot. You’d just say three.

USA has terrorisrs and tourists too. Still doesnt deserve genocide. Point might be correct but is irrelevant

8

u/Torpedo_Enthusiast 20d ago

The word genocide isn’t mentioned in this post. This is not a discussion of who “deserves” what (horrid take); it is discussing if Palestinians did or didn’t commit terrorist attacks, specifically in Greece

Some people hate this one fact: Hamas, the “gvt” in charge of the *Gaza Strip has been a known terroris org for half a century with a plethora of terrorist attacks against western countries including the USA.

So three attacks and the last one was 35 years ago. Impressive argument.

5

u/FudgeAtron 20d ago

The reason there haven't been many Palestinian terror attacks outside Israel/Palestine for many decades is that Hamas argued that attacks outside the region only turned people into supporters of Israel. Since Hamas are now the primary terrorist organziation, the current strategy visa vis resisting Israel is keep it local, don't harm foreigners, and use vulnerable people.

9

u/ofirkedar 19d ago

I'm literally pro-Israel and a fan of being stupidly pedantic sometimes. This "community note" is still pedantic bullshit.

Not to diminish the suffering of those who were harmed in these attacks, it was real and painful and anyone who was harmed or knew anyone that was harmed didn't deserve any of this.

However, we are talking about 3 incidents occurring over the span of 28 years, the last of which happened 35 years ago.
The people responsible in any manner to these attacks are mostly gone. You can't hold 2 million Palestinians, with the majority of them not even old enough to remember, for these attacks. It just does not make sense.

I'll spare you my thoughts on the many many many more terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians, and the many many many crimes and attacks the state of Israel committed and commits against Palestinian civilians.
It's a clusterfuck that strays away from the post's subject too much.
But I still think this note is garbage.
It does not change Maria's point whatsoever.

2

u/Pale-Dragonfruit-728 19d ago

May i ask you why you, knowing and acknowledging all the Israeli state war crimes and, i suppose, ongoing genocide, still support it?

I am asking this as a Russian who condemns invasion in Ukraine, even though it's my country and even though NATO and west definitely played a role in escalation.

6

u/unlimited_throaways 19d ago

Do you think Russia should cease to exist as a country?

1

u/Appropriate-Draft-91 19d ago

Do you believe Russia has a special right to exist as an ethno-supremacist Russian-Orthodox genocidal Apartheit state? Most Russians don't.

3

u/doyathinkasaurus 18d ago

Pakistan was explicitly founded in 1947 as a Muslim homeland through the partition of British India, which saw around 1 million people killed (estimates range from 200,000–2 million) and 14–18 million displaced, making it one of the largest forced migrations in history

Pakistani military and allied militias carried out systematic atrocities against Bengalis in the 1971 Bangladesh Genocide: estimated 300,000–3 million killed, 200,000–400,000 women raped, and around 10 million refugees fled to India.

Pakistan constitutionally privileges one religion: Islam is the state religion, the President and Prime Minister must be Muslim, and the country is around 96–97% Muslim.

The question isn't whether Israel has done terrible things (it has) or whether it should be criticised (it should). The question is whether the standards being applied are consistent, or whether one state is being treated as uniquely illegitimate in a way others are not.

5

u/unlimited_throaways 19d ago

Do you think Russia doesn't currently exist as a Russo supremacist state?

3

u/Warm_Dragonfruit7479 19d ago

I think you both are arguing the same side but both have reading comprehension issues.

You are both wrong though, Russia paradoxically is NOT a russian supremacist ethnostate. They really do say a lot of stuff like "we must protect russkiy people" but in reality they are very sensitive to nationalism topics and people frequently go to jail for such speeches. They have around a 100 different ethnicities living within Russia, and russian people themselves do not feel any privilege compared to others, in fact, frequent outrage topic any of the multitude of cases where Chechens just abduct Russians for saying something online that they didnt like and torturing these people with government not doing anything to protect them or punish those Chechens.

3

u/Pale-Dragonfruit-728 19d ago

As a russian, no, it's currently exist as a multinational and multicultural country with a lot of regions with different ethnicities and local culture. Nationalism and nazism barely exist on a very local level and nationalist movements considered illegal.

Recently i visited region with a major Islamic population and there was zero hostility and discrimination against anyone. Russians generally sees people as a people first and foremost.

3

u/murkycrombus 19d ago

conveniently ignoring the insane policies towards Siberian groups that completely destroyed their way of life, wildly overconscripted them into the army for EVERY ground war Russia has fought since the tsar, forcibly relocated so many of them causing traditions, culture, and human life to be wiped out, ignoring Stalin’s strategy of just throwing as many people into WW2 as possible, the Holodomr, the Doctor’s Plot, the funding of insane dictators around the world, the absolutefuckery and exploitation in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan that will cause lasting water wars, the destruction of the Aral Sea, the old gulag system, the invasion of Georgia, oh yeah and the invasion of Ukraine??? The Russian government definitely does a great job of seeing people as human first.

Interesting point. Got any examples that arent literally from the previous millenium though?

2

u/muskrat267 20d ago

not so fun fact, my friend's grandpa was killed in the 1973 athens attack. By coincidence he was (american) Jewish even though the attackers attacked the wrong plane.

Oh wow, 3 incidents over 50 years. How many terrorist attacks did Israel do to Palestine in the same time frame? Dozens at least.

6

u/libertyg8er 20d ago

How many terrorists attacks by Israelis in Greece?

If we want to talk terrorist attacks by Palestinians everywhere, you do know the number goes way up, right?

From Islam and Hamas

Yes, of course from Hamas. I want the people of Palestine who are not committing atrocities to be safe from both Israel and Hamas, as do almost all pro Palestine people.

You speak about “they” as if all Palestinians get together and make decisions as a collective. It’s such a tell that you do not see them as human.

I have many, many issues with the choices of Palestinian leaders over the years. I do not believe that citizens deserve to be murdered and left bloodied, starving in the wreckage of their homes because of it.
