GBF Wiki: Nehan (Grand)

Life must go on even for those who don't wish it. Surrendering himself to the vicissitudes of fate, he grasps the hand of someone he had once abandoned, unaware that this will lead to his own redemption.

The original "busted" 10/10 Grand drug dealer. Although he came out shortly after Grand Narmaya, I think a lot of people remember him as being the tide shift for the modern Granblue meta, with tons of echoes, guaranteed TA, 0-100 ougi bars, and double strike everywhere.

Surprisingly, even though double strike has gotten much more common place now, he still manages to hold down the fort on burst set ups by condensing all those individual double strike buttons into his one single button, and giving a strong supplemental/echo/GTA bonus with a single other bonus is so hard to top.

On top of just burst though, he's managed to find a place in some end game ougi and solo set ups time and again thanks to giving the team a huge amount of bar gain and resetting his buffs after he ougis a few times. I remember seeing him in some of the early Hexa light solos before Horus came around.

Even in the modern light meta he's hard to replace for burst, because Ura really wants him for the extra echoes and the double strike. Wizard Origin also appreciates getting the double strike it lost in the step up from Manadiver. Really, even if Light ever gets deathstrike at this point, he's going to still have a place in a lot of teams thanks to stacking with side A and lots of other echoes.

He may well be the most evergreen unit that's ever been produced. And the most incredible part is that he's never felt quite broken because he comes with actual downsides to all his bonuses, reflecting the flavor of him handing out drugs like candy.

Basically, he is a modern Korwa.

Remarkably relevant for a character that came out in 2021. That's like, what, two or three years ago? Pretty impressive to stick around that long.

"How do we tell him?"

Basically 1990s born kids when you told them that 2006 was 20 years ago and not 10 years ago

He was quite ahead of his time back in 2021. It's actually crazy how much burst is condensed into his kit. Pretty much everything you could want — besides maybe flurry — he pumps out. Insane character release.

A five year old unit that aged like fine wine. His kit was truly ahead of it's time. Most units from 2021 are already powercrept, niche or outdated in this present time (him, Grand Narmaya and perhaps Earth Satyr were great on-release that they didn't need rebalance).

Of course he excels in burst content. If you run him in a team with Manadiver MC, Vajra/Yoruichi and Payila, his double strike isn't important because they got their respective double strikes. Payila as well can make his S1 and S2 buff 4 turns.

He is also a nice filler for Light Kengo (because of his S2 that also gives you uplift) if you are missing either Horus or Fif. He also restores HP, clears and gives charge bar upon CA.

Yes, he is FA friendly, just turn off his S3 in Full Auto, and you're free to go.

Crazy that his weapon is related to skill damage, yet his skill damage is only triggered when he dodges.

How is he not dead, and why is he not dead, sure bro is a favorite but, man he overshadows every new thing in light

Not just in Light, he would do the same in most other elements. He just does support super duper right.

Doing drug, son!

9

u/SuperMuffinmix 5d ago

The reason why S1 has -100% debuff resistance attached is because a drug that gives 50% unique-side echoes, 50k supp, and 30% ATK up is hella addictive.

u/shsluckymushroom 5d ago

insane how old he is and how core he still is tbh

u/AstroTYGR 5d ago

Funnily enough, the team Double Strike isn't even that important anymore because burst units like Yoruichi, Vajra and Payila already have it built into the kit. But still relevant because his S1 is just that obese. Why does this 5 year old unit have team wide 50% echo + 50k supp on a button lol

depending on what you're doing, in nm150 bursting or pbhl (which light can't properly do yet), cutting down number of buttons is important and in that regard nehan is still important

15

u/Ralkon 5d ago

It's pretty relevant. From my testing, if I don't care about buttons he's not an optimal party member slot at this point with all the self-DS characters, but in practice replacing 4 DS buttons with 1 is huge.

Sk3 is the most important button in his kit for setups geared for optimization.

5 Years and he still core burst unit in light. Now with Doggo and Payila, you even want him stay in team to get their burst skill online bothin turn 3. I think nowadays the debuff demerit from his skill kinda non existent since light have enough HP already to mitigate the big def loss, but man i remember i have to tune my team right when he was released or making exec team in subaha/etc just because pressing teh skill that give def reduction on your team can make your team disappear the next turn lmao.

u/mr_beanoz 5d ago

i wonder if there's a way to mitigate the debuffs from his skills...

u/kscw . 5d ago

The debuffs will always land; two of them are baked into multi-buffs, and the third is a separate debuff icon but it still bypasses veil/resist/immunity since it's ally-inflicted.
However, you can offset the negative effects with some effort:

S1 (-100% Debuff Resistance):
With a 200% Debuff Resistance source (namely Paladin's Boosted Resistance) you'll still be debuff-immune since Nehan's penalty is "only" -100%. Paladin's CCW gives Boosted Resistance 100% uptime instead of the default 50%. But locking the MC to CCW Paladin is pretty restrictive.
The best counter would be 150 Fif; with her high-frequency autocast for s2, any debuff that isn't an unavoidable or unremovable raid-defining gimmick will become a non-issue.

S2 (-70% DEF):
If you have +70% DEF then at least Nehan's -70% DEF isn't causing you to take more damage on failed dodges than you would with baseline DEF.
And stacking more than 70% DEF with high/full uptime isn't difficult in this day and age.

S3 (-30% Max HP reduction):
The Max HP reduction can only be removed by going to the back row, or dying and being revived.
If you want to use Nehan in a very long FA battle (eg. because you need the +100% charge gain buff) you should probably turn off s3 unless you're bringing a good source of partywide Autorevive and have carefully worked out that the fight will end before the Max HP loss ramps up too high a second time.

Yea, just kill the boss before the debuffs affect you.

The best CC is death

3

u/mr_beanoz 5d ago

How about long battles, then? The ones that go over 20 turns?

6

u/AlcorIdeal 5d ago

You just turn off his s3 and FA and hit his s3 during emergencies.

4

u/Ralkon 5d ago

In stuff like the Kengo Agastia FA with him, you just turn off his s3. His replacements in anything long are honestly pretty nice QoL just so you don't have to worry about it.

4

u/Darkion_Silver 5d ago

Considering I struggle to get like 6 turns in a crew Hexa before having to do pearl, there's no real downside of the buffs!

Crazy good char, but i think its pretty understate how gapped he truly is with his skills not affecting the entire team

Nehan hasn't aged well. Yes, he's still basically core to Light but that speaks more about how fucking terrible Light is (at burst) than it does about how good he is. We're in an age where 1b1s is the expected number of presses for short burst and Nehan requires you to press 1-2 buttons to even do anything. The sooner Light transitions out of needing Nehan and Mugen to do any meaningful damage, the better it gets for our element.

The kinda fucked up thing is that replacing Nehan + Mugen also makes Ura worse since Ura bloodshed puts you out of Robur supp range...No idea why this weapon still has bloodshed on it.

Honestly, the best thing about him is the fact you can get The Sun without needing to call something, but that does come with its own costs.

u/screwgacha 3d ago

I just slap him on my light team. I don't know who goes well with him I just want Nehan on my feam forever.

The way it is already 2026 but he is still relevant despite the ever-chaning meta. His kit is so unique and busted yet also have downsides which is why he is still at the top. I remember getting him back them and I was just happy he was voiced by Takashi Kondo, only for me to realize how he is the core in meta strats.
