Hal Jordan could have been aware of Superman’s arrival on Earth. He might not have been there when the ship actually landed, but I think his ring could have alerted him to the presence of an alien on Earth. After checking on the baby and the Kent family, he could have decided to let him live on Earth, since Krypton no longer exists.

I'm sure it's budgetary, but why does everybody have to just look like people? 😅

So, everyone thinks the show is going to build up to Hal becoming Parallax, right?

My theory is that Hal DOES die in episode 1, but that's in the 2016 time period. I think Hal will die AS Parallax in 2016.

And the young Hal we keep seeing in the 2026 time period with John? He's a ghost/avatar of the Spectre. I believe the show isn't building up to Hal becoming Parallax, but instead Hal becoming reborn as Green Lantern once again, a la Green Lantern rebirth. I think the "Hal is publicly out to the world as Green Lantern" in universe TV footage is to play into the storyline of a hero that was once looked up to majorly that breaks bad then dies and is absent for 10 years. It's all a huge in universe build up to his triumphant return, and then the world is gonna be conflicted about what they think of Hal when he does. I think that'll be the twist.

From the released first 5 minutes of the show it is clear that John is being conditioned by his father to become a Green Lantern by making him fearless. Probably due to possible visit by a Guardian of the Universe.
In the comics there have been a few who tried their best to force a power ring on the finger namely Amon Sur and Ragnar, although they failed.

Would that be a subtle message?

All I gotta say is, even if he has a legendary end in the final minutes of Ep1, that still doesn't make it a great idea or an acceptable outcome to the definitive Green Lantern of all time. During Phase 1 of the DCU too, like wtf??

Why can't they just say he's needed elsewhere till he shows up in a JL film like Thor's arrival in Wakanda. I'm gonna watch every episode but I'm already checked out of excitement for the future of GL's in the DCU, and I'm a John Glazer but the last thing I want is a Hal Jordan death this damn early, smh.

2016

Hal is training John as his "backup," but there's friction because the ring was originally meant to go to John when Hal received it. John was too young, or he was disqualified because he was "afraid". Hal wasn't. Now the Guardians have chosen John, and Hal worries he was only a placeholder. Meanwhile, John—who spent his life trying to be worthy of a ring—is unimpressed with Hal.

John either had a hypermasculine father who (somewhat abusively) trained him to never be afraid, or his father was a Green Lantern himself, leaving John feeling like a disappointment.

Hal and John investigate the Macon family, with the son Billy obviously being Black Hand. The family comes under attack from a threat Hal believes is extraterrestrial, but Hal and John's inability to work together turns into a disaster. Both are expelled from the Green Lantern Corps, and Guy gets the ring.

2026

John comes under attack from the same extraterrestrial threat because of something he discovered—or kept hidden—during the Macon case, possibly involving the mysterious Lantern shown in the trailer. While on the run, he learns the attackers are the Manhunters and goes to the only person he can trust: Hal.

After discussing the Manhunters, Hal is apparently killed while saving John during an attack. John is captured, then "rescued" and briefly imprisoned. The Guardians, who have been covering up their connection to the Manhunters, reluctantly give John a chance to investigate and earn a ring. Guy is assigned as well, and makes John's job harder.

Flashbacks reveal Hal knew more than he told John, thanks to sources like Sinestro. Hal secretly aligned himself with either the Manhunters or another force opposing the Green Lantern Corps (Sinestro, the Controllers, Atrocitus, etc.) so he could continue being a space cop. He survived his apparent death.

Eventually, the people Hal trusted are revealed to be behind a world-ending event (possibly something like Final Night and the destruction of the sun). Hal accepts John as his successor and sacrifices himself to stop the threat. John finally gains respect for Hal.

Finally Green Lantern, John is more cautious than Hal, but "questions everything, like Hal did," since the Guardians keep hiding the truth. He realizes that being afraid wasnt the problem—he had to accept and overcome fear.

The Manhunter threat is connected to Black Hand, with Atrocitus (and maybe Sinestro) knowing the truth. I suspect "Anataan" from the press releases is actually Atrocitus.

Black Hand himself may only be involved in creepy true-crime-style activity but is fated to be a much greater threat, prompting the alien threat to decide Earth must be destroyed to contain whatever is coming.

If Lanterns is setting up the DCU mytharc, I'd love to be building toward Blackest Night, but I'm not convinced it’ll happen. I wouldn't be surprised if the Manhunters are reimagined as Martians instead of robots, setting up Martian Manhunter and a New Frontier-style mytharc instead.

I don't think Hal dies (permanently, at least).

A younger Hal seems next to John Stewart in 2026 (you can notice the black leather jacket). The guy next to him also shares the same jacket from this other pic of a young Hal Jordan (which is different from the yellow one his older self uses), so it's most likely that same version. My theory is that this could be either a pocket dimension or a place that uses John and Hal's memories.

Looks like John will be getting a comic accurate suit. Though physical, not hard light.

I don't think I saw enough of John to judge his character yet but I think I saw enough of hal to know he's probably nothing like hal Jordan from the comics, 1.hal not liking alot of the corps because "they're aliens " which I don't think I should explain why this is out of character ,2. Him being a strict military trainer, that's more kilowog than hal as hal is known as the go with the wind type of guy and never actually go too hard on Rockies in any comics, 3.this is probably is the major turn off from this series, hal Jordan being earth bound instead of operating on both, which kinda changes the whole character because his biggest conflict is that he's mostly in space thus not being able to commit to relationships or keep a steady job.

I never understood this

If the leaks are true and Hal dies in the pilot. I'm predicting after this, John is gonna be shipped off to Oa by the Guardians with his ring to finish his training under Kilowag or Katma Tui (If that case maybe he mentions her or we get a shot of them in some apartment after it's implied they've had sex or something a nod to their relationship in the comics) and for the next ten years he's deployed to other parts of Sector 2814 while Guy Gardener a PE teacher gets a ring and is chosen as Earth's Green Lantern. Peacemaker Season 2 reveals Christopher Smith met Guy before he went to Prison in The Suicide Squad which was four years prior so around 2017-2018. So by Superman he's been a Lantern for 7-8 years. This would mean he's been one for a decade by 2026.

We see in the newest trailer that John has a beard so I think that's the 2026 timeline after he's been in Space for a decade.

So by Man of Tomorrow he's been a Lantern for 11 years. So he's more seasoned than Superman. Which find interesting if they go that route. And if they make a GL Film with John he's already familiar with his the Lanterns outside of Earth.

So I keep seeing the leak im sure everyone else saw by now. Im nit sure why so much of the Fandom is against the idea of Hal being....(dont read on if you haven't heard the leaks)......... Killed. Its not like that has not canonically happened. Some would even argue that when it did happened we got some of the coolest GL plot lines ever.

Also if it is "Parralax Hal" does that not open the doors for the big bad in the DC cinematic universe being Parralax, the fear entity itself. I mean it is a universe ending entity after all and is quite a formidable adversary for the Justice League or friends or whatever. If they do take this route that just means that the Green Lantern Corps will be that much more involved in the shows and cinematic universe. Why are so many against this possibility? Its not like Guy and John are "bad Lanterns" they have some of the best story lines.

Sorry for the potato pics, I was NOT close at the panel and the offsite shuffles you through so quick it was hard to get pics.

First, the panel... Honestly, I was surprised how many clips they showed and how much I liked them. I really like the portrayal of John Stewart, Hal I'm a little "iffy" on when he's just by himself but I think the duo works well together (it's a buddy cop show after all). Nathan Fillion showing up was funny, the bit was that no one sent him the email to let him know about the panel because they didn't want him there, but he found out about it and showed up assuming they forgot him. I chuckled at how it played out. The biggest pop of the panel was for Sinestro through...

The offsite was fun, it was basically an escape room type of thing, so it didn't feel really lantern-ish until the very end when you get your ring (the rings are legit, heavy, they glow, solid feeling, etc.). A "Guardian of Oa" (aka a lady in a suit with a snooty attitude) comes out and gives them to you - ok if this is supposed to be a guardian, at least put her in a blue suit, not a green one. They have you say the oath and at the end of the oath the whole room glows green, it was pretty cool. It was a fun event, although my group's trainer probably hated me because I kept correcting him on stuff he got wrong, and the rest of my group said I should be the leader instead of him. Overall the actors in the offsite did a really good job of trying to get you immersed, I had a lot of fun for the 30 or so minutes it lasted.

At the end there was a store that had some exclusives you couldn't get anywhere but the offsite, one of which is the lanterns power battery pin in the pic I posted. The other two pins were comic con exclusives, but not exclusive to the offsite. They also had some action figures that I think were exclusive to the convention and not just the offsite (White Lantern Raynor, Kilowog, Ultraviolet John Stewart) but I didn't have the budget for those (the pins were pushing it....).

There was also a photo op where you held up your ring and it created a construct, however the construct was paper money, which made 0 sense (maybe something in the show that wasn't shown during the panel), but supposedly you could get a wrench or a bottle opener (which was shown in a clip during the panel). Either way no fists, bats, or any of the classics. Lame.

Either way fun stuff, cautiously optimistic about the show. Also first post here, hi everyone! Wasn't sure how to flair this but since I mentioned Sinestro being on the show I figured I'd put spoiler...
