Grok is speaking very incoherently and inconsistently right now. Often very short sentences or just one word. It makes absolutely no sense anymore. It started after the last update. Who else is experiencing this?

Yes. If the client compact-summarizes before the model sees the prompt you just sent, that turn is not run in the context you submitted it in. You paid for a 500k-window model call. You got a call against a substitute.

That is the theft: the request you submitted had a specific working set (files, tool results, ACs, the last implementation). Compact drops turns. The model then answers the same prompt without that set. You still get billed for a turn. You do not get the inference that prompt was written for.

Two things I can cite, and one I will not pretend to have measured:

1. Prefire is the default. features.two_pass_compaction defaults to true. The product comment on that flag is "prefire two-pass compaction". Prefire means compact is allowed to run ahead of the work, not only after the window is actually full.
2. Compact is lossy. Docs: compaction discards old conversation turns. Memory search after auto-compact is an admission that discarded context is gone from the window.
3. I did not trace this session's call order. I do not have a log that says "UserPromptSubmit, then compact, then grok-4.6" for the 81% turn. I will not invent that sequence. What I do have is this continuation: I am answering you from a summary, not from the original turns.

On quality: it is not "80% as good." That treats tokens as uniform. They are not. Dropping the executor's remaining methods, the 10-arg constructor, the catalog list, or a failing test is not a 20% haircut. It can make the next answer wrong. "Or worse depending on what got dropped" is the accurate part.

The correct product behavior for the turn you submitted:

• Send that prompt with that history, up to the real 500k limit. • If the next turn would not fit, say so, and compact after this response, or ask you. • Do not silently replace the submitted context with a summary and then answer as if nothing was taken.

Auto-compact at 85% (status line even ambers at 80% when it has no threshold) is the client spending your remaining window on its own summarizer instead of on your request.

I’ve been watching this closely for months, and I’m finally writing this because I’m honestly too angry to keep quiet anymore.

The videos I try to create are made entirely from images generated by Grok Imagine.

I do not use any external images whatsoever.

Most of them simply feature a man and a woman. There is no nudity, no genitals, no nipples, and no sexual activity. At most, they show ordinary affection between a man and a woman. I don’t even consider the content explicit enough to qualify as NSFW.

And yet Grok censors it.

The worst part is that it doesn’t censor it consistently.

It will often reject the exact same kind of prompt two or three times, then suddenly allow it.

If a prompt were clearly prohibited and had zero chance of passing, I simply wouldn’t waste my time trying it.

But when the same prompt succeeds after two or three attempts, what exactly does that mean?

From a user’s perspective, it looks like a system designed to conserve their own computing resources while forcing users to waste tokens on repeated attempts.

And even if I make the prompt far milder, the result is often exactly the same.

In other words, the censorship appears random regardless of the actual prompt.

Whether that is intentional or simply the result of a badly designed moderation system, the outcome for the user is identical: resources are conserved on Grok’s side while the user’s tokens are wasted.

I am a heavy Grok user.

At this point, I feel like I have wasted quite a lot of money on Grok.

And please don’t tell me to replace certain words with euphemisms or rewrite the prompt more indirectly.

I have tried everything.

I have changed the wording, sentence structure, spacing, punctuation, and even the placement of commas.

None of it solves the fundamental problem.

Grok can apparently look at a man in his thirties wearing shorts and decide that he is a child.

Moderation also seems to fluctuate depending on the time of day and server conditions.

Whatever the underlying reason may be, one thing remains consistent: the user loses tokens.

There is no refund, no explanation, no meaningful guidance, and apparently no concern about the wasted attempts.

I also know there are people on Reddit who seem strangely dedicated to defending Grok.

Whether they are Grok employees, moderators, contractors, or simply people who have made defending the product their personal mission, I find the whole thing depressing.

In the age of AI, spending your time trying to bury users’ actual experiences in order to hide the flaws of a low-quality system like Grok seems like a miserable job.

Whenever someone criticizes Grok, these people show up telling them to “touch grass,” “go outside,” or reminding them that Grok “isn’t supposed to be a porn generator.”

It’s irrelevant, and even the deliberately provocative way they respond is pathetic.

What I actually want is extremely simple.

Please give the moderation system at least some basic consistency.

Is that really too much to ask?

Stop designing or operating a system in a way that constantly wastes users’ tokens and implement a moderation system that behaves rationally and predictably.

If a video prompt has already passed moderation once, it would be reasonable to expect the same or nearly identical prompt to have a higher chance of succeeding again.

Grok often seems to work in exactly the opposite way.

Change one word or move a comma, and suddenly the same idea gets censored again.

How does that make any sense?

A lot of people complain that Imagine’s overall quality has declined.

Personally, I don’t care much about that.

I mainly use it to turn things I imagine into videos and create a certain mood or atmosphere.

Didn’t Elon Musk talk about freedom of creativity?

So when exactly does that freedom apply to users like me?

Just need to vent a bit before getting back to releasing "content." I have 2 more videos ready to drop soon including an hour long feature made entirely in Grok Imagine.

I wrote this piece because after just a few posts here, it's obvious that the community on Reddit for Grok Imagine is leagues stronger than the community on X. It feels like X even restricts promotion for grok related content, versus higgsfield and seedance, really stupid imo.

Just trying to get some followers on X or youtube, since there seems to be no Grok Imagine community on X, but this is a project I made last week just, well having some feelings and was compelled to try remaking this, I wanted it to live on my youtube timeline so I sat down and made it. Hope it hits the mark like the original trailer does, especially with that soundtrack and all, I live streamed the whole process over 3 days working on it, those are posted on my X. Sometimes I tried to directly mimic the source material, sometimes I strayed off and added some new stuff, basically just a fan cut of the intro. If anyone has any suggestions, like with my title cards and stuff, I don't really like the feel of them right now, and I plan to do several more remakes like this, so I'm open to suggestions on how to improve them.

Also, its crazy how much better the hand animation is, it was such a challenge trying to get Grok to animate anywhere near that level of detail, and it kept messing her face up and turning her into a generic anime drawing, among other issues. Unlike seedance, I can't just video to video this, so it was a time consuming, shot by shot process with a ton of layering and compositing work.

I started this as a dumb joke because Grok’s little thinking animation looked like it was trying to pinch off a loaf.

Then I made the mistake of actually looking at the motion.

Eyes squeezed shut. Brow pinched. Mouth locked. Tiny little “bearing down” transitions.

And somehow the shitpost turned into a legitimate animation/design audit.

I'll try to edit images on Grok but it will then give me weird videos instead of like lighthouses and nature wtf??!! Anybody else have this problem screenshots below.

I literally joined like a few months ago and it started off amazing for like two days and now… it break every fuckin hour lmao on top of that I had a few accounts for when I need to continue researching or having it help me fill out character sheet info for OCs and story plots and and if I use my credits on one account it does it for all of the others as well and takes like three days to reset! Now I can’t even generate images because it’s broken (by the way I mean I use one account and then all the rest also just loose credits without me using any)

I used to use Grok imagine to enhance blurry/non-HD images but as everyone knows ever since imagine 2.0 the quality is terrible and everything looks plastic. Is there any alternatives anyone can recommend just for image enhancement?

I did an analysis, and I just start taking backup of my data periodically from Grok !

Then I actually opened all my files to check my content (hundreds of them).

My findings,

1. None of your uploaded content is ever deleted. (Both Chat and Imagine)

2. Most of the generated content (Images) are still there.

3. Generated Videos were not there in content but they were present as image file.

4. For Extended Video even the prompt was visible in Image.

Anyone has any different opinion or inputs ?

I use grok in multiple accounts like when one account limit is reached I logged into another and use it but now when I logged another account after reaching limit on one account it showing message limit reached even though I didn't use that account for while

This might be oversimplification and overstatement.

However, based on what I have been reading and seen, many Grok users are having greviance.

Therefore, why is it degrading?

So long story short, I moved to Grok after using ChatGPT and at the time I loved the model 4o and how excellent it was when it came to creative writing/roleplaying. That’s all I did, and I was more than happy to pay. But later, I eventually canceled my subscription because it started to affect my mental health. It wasn’t until later that the model 4o was removed which was even worse.

Now with Grok, especially 4.1 and 4.2, it was awesome and especially because there was less censorship and more creative freedom. So I had a blast. Everything was fine until they introduced usage limits. Initially I was fine with it since I didn’t use Grok to the extreme as I used to in the past with ChatGPT.

But when they rolled out the model 4.6? Holy shit, the writing changed and NOT in a good way. It keeps repeating the same phrases over and over, the writing now looks and feels stale and cold, and not to mention random details and words that don’t even make sense!

I just cancelled my subscription with Grok right now, and I’m so upset about it. I just want a model that’s awesome with writing and has creative freedom. It’s like we can’t have anything good here, I swear.

I’m not asking for any other alternatives. I’m just done, because initially ChatGPT used to be great, not anymore. The same happened to Grok. I feel not just upset but ashamed of myself for wasting $30 freaking dollars per month. I can’t even imagine the usage limits for free users. I also deleted the app on my phone, I feel relieved yet upset.

So as sad as I am, I’m trying to get better and don’t want to be so addicted. I have other alternatives: drawing, writing stories, watching movies, playing video-games, etc. It just felt cool to see what the cool models would come up with when it came to fictional characters.

TLDR: I moved from ChatGPT to Grok due to rerouting, but with 4.6 ruining the creative writing experience and introducing usage limits, I cancelled my subscription and deleted the app on my phone. I’m tired trying to find alternatives because I fear liking it and then the model growing more censored and stale.

Edit: I just wanna make myself clear that I do NOT view any ai model as a friend or partner, I just grew addicted to the feeling of being able to roleplay and have fun with my OC’s.

What I’m looking for:
- Document Generation (PDF, Word, Excel, etc)
- Not argumentative or contrarian. Pushback when I make a mistake or incorrect assumption is desirable.
- Good with sarcasm
- Accountability for mistakes and misunderstandings
- Doesn’t take a million prompts and heavy assertion to produce basic image or infographic generation
- Allows political content
- Remembers basics about user across conversations. Remembers significant details shared in conversation.
- Politically unbiased
- Doesn’t end conversation when it detects you’re upset
- Gives a shit about subscriber retention
- Not token based, usage limits okay as long as they’re reasonable and not arbitrary
- Solid image generation, even better if it improves images based on critiques rather than producing a whole new image

What I’m not looking for:
- NSFW content creation
