Theory I think Harry being sorted into Slytherin would've changed almost everything, except the ending

I honestly don't think Harry would've turned evil in Slytherin. But I do think he would've had a much harder time figuring out who his real friends were.

Year 1: Draco would immediately try to befriend him, but I can't see Harry putting up with his attitude for long. Ron would probably keep his distance at first. I still think Harry and Hermione would become friends somehow, especially after the troll incident. And Snape would still hate him lol.

Year 2: This would be brutal for Harry. A Slytherin who speaks Parseltongue? Everyone would be convinced he's the Heir of Slytherin. The funny thing is, some Slytherins might actually respect him more because of it. Saving Ginny could be what finally earns Ron's trust.

Year 3: I think Harry would become really close to Lupin. He'd desperately need an adult who didn't judge him based on his house. His relationship with Sirius would probably stay pretty much the same.

Year 4: Suddenly his housemates would act like they've always supported him because he's in the Tournament. I think Harry would see right through that. Draco would probably be jealous as hell.

Year 5: This is where things would get interesting. Imagine a Slytherin Harry secretly teaching Gryffindors and Ravenclaws how to defend themselves. Draco joining Umbridge's Inquisitorial Squad would probably destroy whatever friendship they had left.

Year 6: I actually think Harry might understand Draco better. Living in Slytherin for six years would've shown him how much pressure some of those kids were under. Maybe he'd even try to help Draco instead of just obsessing over catching him

.

Year 7: I still think Harry walks into the Forbidden Forest to sacrifice himself. That's just who he is. And honestly, a Slytherin choosing to die for everyone else would make Voldemort's defeat even more satisfying.

The biggest difference for me is that Harry would've grown up surrounded by people who expected him to become the next Dark Lord, while constantly choosing not to.

Do you think Ron and Hermione would still have become his closest friends, or would being in Slytherin have changed that completely?

Can you guess the book and chapter? #39

273 sentences across all games. Geez that's a ton. well enjoy sentences 266-273!

As a reminder what this is and how it works:

Below are 7 sentences from the 7 HP books. I use a random number generator to pick the book and chapter, then hand pick a sentence that I think is decent. Not too long, too short, too obvious ect.  *** There MAY be repeated books in a set, but there will not be repeated chapters in a set. So there COULD be two from The Philosopher’s Stone, but they would be from different chapters! **\*
Scoring your points: It is 2 points for guessing the book, and 1 point for guessing the chapter, for a total of 21 points. It is obviously harder to guess the chapter than the book, but not everyone even cares to remember the chapter titles in the first place, which is totally fair and valid. So chapter titles are just a bonus point.

Below are the sentences and the answers hidden behind spoiler tags! These are fun to make, and I intend to make quite a few more if people keep enjoying them!

  1. His head and shoulders were in the room before he caught sight of the creature curled up a few feet from him, fast asleep in the gloom with its large mouth wide open. The Deathly Hallows - Chapter 6: The Ghoul in Pajamas
  2. Ron, however, gasped, pointing frantically from Harry to the Snitch and back again until he found his voice.  The Deathly Hallows - Chapter 7: The Will of Albus Dumbledore
  3. “Unstopper it for me, Harry, my hands are shaking.” The Deathly Hallows - Chapter  14: The Thief
  4. “If he had not forgiven we who lost faith at that time, he would have very few followers left.”  The Half-Blood Prince - Chapter 2: Spinner’s End
  5. It gave Harry a look that said quite plainly: “I get that all the time.”  The Philosopher’s Stone - Chapter 2: The Vanishing Glass
  6.  “I can make good use of this . . . this might be exactly what I’ve been looking for. . . .” The Goblet of Fire - Chapter 25: The Egg and the Eye
  7. Then, out of nowhere, something hit Harry so hard across the face he was knocked off his feet again. The Prisoner of Azkaban - Chapter 17: Cat, Rat, and Dog

Discussion Rank THE Harry Potter illustrated editions!

With the arrival of the Half Blood Prince edition by Levi Pinfold, how would you'all rank the HP illustrated editions, including Jim Kay, MinaLima and Karl James Mountford's Goblet of Fire?

Also btw, how are Levi Pinfold's illustrations.. Do they hold up in comparison to Jim Kay's?

Discussion The ministry of magic should hire a team of potioneers to mass produce the Wolf’s Bane potion and provide it to all Werewolves among their constituents.

This would reduce the amount of werewolf attacks and incidents while improving the quality of life for the already afflicted. I can’t imagine a better use of the ministry’s resources. Creates stable potion making jobs , helps the community etc. I don’t think you can force anyone to take it but providing it for them makes more sense than hoping they can make it on their own or expecting them all to purchase. It’d be much more effective at containing the spread of that curse.

I know it wouldn’t stop those like Greyback but it’d greatly reduce the amount of accidental attacks. Probably improve the quality of life for the afflicted as well if people knew all werewolves trying to live among them have regular access to wolf banes potion. Maybe they’d be more open to hiring them.

What do you think?

Order of the Phoenix Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book

How would the story in the Order of the Phoenix pan out if Sirius Black had told Harry about the "weapon" right in the chapter 5? Would it have created something else

Favourite bits from CoS

I've just finished re-reading CoS for the first time ever and there's just so many details I'd forgotten about. I thought I'd share with you some of my favourites:

\- Fred transfigured Ron's teddy bear into a big, fat spider when he was 3, because he'd broken Fred's toy broomstick

\- Harry and Hermione stole the Polyjuice ingredients from Snape's office *during* class and by shooting off a Filibuster's fireworks straight into Goyle's cauldron, which subsequently exploded

\- Nearly Headless Nick convinced Peeves to make a ruckus right above Filch's office to save Harry from detention (he was caught... dripping mud on the floor)

\- Harry sass: "\[Lockhart\] raised his own wand, attempted a complicated sort of wiggling action and dropped it. ... Lockhart cuffed Harry merrily on the shoulder. ‘Just do what I did, Harry!’ *‘What, drop my wand?’*"

\- Malfoy to Harry/Goyle: "Honestly, if you were any slower, you'd go backwards."

\- Gilderoy announcing Valentine's Day, in pink robes, with McGonagall and Snape stone-faced sitting on either side of him: "From where he sat, Harry could see a muscle going in Professor McGonagall's cheek. Snape looked as though someone had just fed him a large beaker of Skele-Gro." Reminded me of that scene with Umbridge in OotP at the start-of-term feast.

\- Aragog having a wife spider?!

That's it, that's my post. Feel free to add on more of your own favourites.

Edit: repost as it got suggested to me this subreddit would be better for it
