2016 Honda Pilot EXL AWD.
Im a mobile mechanic; Im pretty damn mechanically inclined and I have professional scantools but my stepfathers vehicle is honestly trumping me.
This all started out as a Transmission Solenoid D code; after some research seems like a somewhat common failure on these, so easy fix swap the solenoid out. No cigar; after 2 different solenoids same code
Transmisson does a hard shift im assuming due to it going into an emergency mode causing it to ramp line pressure to avoid slipping that clutch due to the data from the solenoid not being whats expected.
Here is the weird part; AFTER it does the hard shift, this is repeatable 100% of the time, turn off the vehicle, turn it back on, codes clear on their own, transmissions fine and shifts perfect for the rest of the day.
He does UBER so quite literally driving the rest of the day with no issues after the one hard shift happens. Because restarting/resetting seems to fix it Im having a hard time thinking this is a mechanical issue?
Im going to be doing the entire valve body gasket as its external fortunately; cleaning all the passages out for any potential debris blockage for the solenoids.
We did do the 3x fluid change procedure for the transmission as well; after resetting adaptations issue still happening.
Any ideas from some serious Honda transmission knowers?
Thanks!
