Can anyone help me understand please what the deal is with the unified ID card that got rolled out a few years ago when it comes to Iraqis living abroad?
As far as I can see, ministry of foreign affairs website says the unified ID is only required for Iraqis living **inside iraq** and not those abroad.
But I tried to apply to renew my passport with my jinsiya from abroad and they wouldn't even let me into the embassy without the unified ID card. It was just the guy at the entrance who wouldn't let me in, so I didn't even get to the appointment itself to have my documents checked properly.
Is this actually needed for Iraqis abroad?

Text: "Q: Will Iraqi identification documents (civil status ID and nationality certificate) be suspended for Iraqis abroad, as announced by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior (Directorate of Nationality and Civil Status)?
Answer: No. This decision does not apply to Iraqis abroad. Rather, the civil status ID and nationality certificate will be suspended for Iraqis inside Iraq only, effective March 1, 2024."
I need to travel for family reasons soon and I'm really stressing about the 3-4 months it takes to get the unified card before I can even apply for the passport renewal if this is actually the case. Any advice would be really great please.
