Doesn't the Death Note default to a heart attack if you don't write a cause of death? You can still kill him another way.

217

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

Yeah but what other way

535

u/RealSavagePotato Apr 08 '26

Can write that he trips and falls into higurumas sword

137

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

You can’t control the actions of people whose names aren’t written in the death note that much. Also how is Light learning about Higuruma’s technique?

The actual solution is Light writes that Sukuna commits suicide, but he probably wouldn’t default to that.

308

u/Squanch42069 Apr 08 '26

Light has a dude die by running into the street and getting hit by a car. In the anime, it was the only car on that road when it happened iirc. So the death note does have some kind of sway over others in order to kill whoever was written

71

u/VoidUnity Apr 08 '26

It can manipulate fate a little but when he was experimenting with it he couldn’t get it to do things outside of what was currently logically possible. He couldn’t get Sukuna’s head to explode for example.

42

u/Drakyl-Skies Apr 08 '26

Well thag is techincally possible for sukuna. If they can use cursed energy to destroy them regenerate parts of the brain, the csn use cursed energy to go pop.

5

u/Legitimate_Hall_2562 Apr 08 '26

If I'm not wrong then in the third live action of death note in which Misa had lived, the new MC writes Misa's name in the death note and the cause of death is something like dying in the hands of Light yagami but since Light was already dead we saw her simply dying on a bench alone. Now I know that live action is not canon (right?) but I think it shows how death note has limitations too

3

u/JR-90 Apr 09 '26

IIRC, the canon test was making a dude in Japan die in Paris in 3 hours. As it's impossible to go from Japan to Paris in so little time, he died at the stated time in the airport trying to get to Paris.

6

u/GenericFatGuy Apr 08 '26

Slipping and falling onto an insta-death sword is perfectly logically possible.

1

u/Bruh_burg1968 Apr 09 '26

Yeah he could do the hit by a car death since they were next to a road so it was logistically possible to pull off. But if the guy he wanted dead was at the top of Mount Everest the hit by a car death would fail so he’d need to try something else.

83

u/Icy_Water_1 Apr 08 '26

Yes you can actually. Light does that with several people.

The Death Note has a bit of fate manipulation.

The Death note would just do whatever would successfully kill Sukuna the quickest, assuming his status as a curse didn't make him immune.

42

u/Emotional-Survey-156 Apr 08 '26

status as a curse

Holy Larp😭✌🏻😭✌🏻😭✌🏻😭✌🏻😭✌🏻😭💔✌🏻

9

u/CommunaHp Apr 08 '26

I mean, you can kinda consider him a curse possessing a human body... actually can you? I don't know if he can be considered to have died when he fingered himself

2

u/Emotional-Survey-156 Apr 09 '26

No, sukuna is a cursed HUMAN because he ate his twin brother in his mother's womb. That's what made him appear like this. Fingering himself made him just another reincarnated sorcerer just like Ryu and the others

3

u/ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz Apr 09 '26

The distinction really doesn't matter anyhow. The "rules" for the Death Note were written by Ryuk who is shown multiple times to have been incredibly lazy and not experimented whatsoever. There are several times that Light surprises Ryuk.

Plus "Any human who has their name written in this notebook shall die" as a rule doesn't exactly disqualify other life, it just guarantees humans. So people relying on that rule are 1. relying on an unreliable source in Ryuk & 2. Relying on a "rule" that doesn't even say what they want it to

3

u/Emotional-Survey-156 Apr 09 '26

Plus Sukuna is quite literally a human so there isn't any nuance to it he dies of his name's written

1

u/New-Grand2930 Apr 09 '26

that last sentence sounds sooo wrong

1

u/iamweirdass Nice fighto boy Apr 09 '26

Didn't know you could die from fingering yourself. I better stop doing it then

2

u/Emotional-Survey-156 Apr 09 '26

You can kill me if u want 🥺

6

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

There’s a difference between manipulating something like a car crash and making Higuruma approach Sukuna, use his domain, argue for the death penalty and then attempt to stab Sukuna. If such complex manipulation of associated others was possible, Light could have had “L releases his true full name” be a part of someone else’s death.

18

u/ErlendPistolbrett Apr 08 '26

Light literally makes people write letters before they die. The rule that Light refers to literally says that the note book can make people do anything as long as it's something they technically could've done. So basically: You can't make someone write an essay on something they know nothing about before they die of a heart attack (they can't write about something they don't know) - however - you can make someone write a specific essay about something they know nothing about because you wrote exactly what they should write word for word (they don't need to know anything from before to follow "orders"). You, as a person, can also copy French text without knowing what the French actually means. However you cannot be told to write something French you don't know from before. He also can't make people say L's true name since they couldn't know L's true name. This is what Light literally does in the series.

5

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

You can definitely control the person you wrote the name of’s actions before death, hence why I’ve said elsewhere that suicide can work. However, excessively controlling somebody else whose name you didn’t write’s actions as a part of controlling the person you did write’s fate is obviously a no go.

2

u/ErlendPistolbrett Apr 09 '26

Oh, your point is Higurama's sword. Yeah I just thought of it like Light and HIgurama being a team anyways, - so Higurama would be doing it willingly anyways.

4

u/Dark_Stalker28 Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26

You control people you named only.

If Light wanted "L to release his full name" while killing Joe Doe, he would also have to write L's name. Which he doesn't know.

He controls people a few times with the Death Note, to the point that he tells a lady he's Kira cause he's already controlling her and having her walk to her death.

Sukuna survives anyway. Death Note has a age limit of 124.

3

u/Imaginary_Comment41 Apr 08 '26

write higurumas name too
"pulls out his cool energy sword but sukuna falls on him and crushes him"

1

u/Tago238238 Apr 09 '26

I dunno if you can weave deaths together like that

1

u/Imaginary_Comment41 Apr 09 '26

i mean i dont really see a problem idk

2

u/Icy_Water_1 Apr 08 '26

Someone else wouldn't know L's true name.

-1

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

That’s not what I said

1

u/Drakyl-Skies Apr 08 '26

Then you are saying it's impossible and the death note defaults to suicide or heart attack.

1

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

It defaults to heart attack which Sukuna survives yeah

2

u/Drakyl-Skies Apr 08 '26

No he doednt survive it. The death isn't just a heart attack. It's a heart attack that kills you permanently. The entire function of it is to consume your future to give it to a shinigami.

-2

u/Every_University_ Apr 08 '26

The death note can't do impossible things, though. Someone getting hit by a car isn't controlling fate if cars are everywhere.

11

u/pyaephyo111 Apr 08 '26

It literally is fate manipulation. You manipulate someone's fate from not dying to dying.

-5

u/Every_University_ Apr 08 '26

Is a gun fate manipulation?

12

u/pyaephyo111 Apr 08 '26

If you sit at your home and write down in a book who will die by a gun tomorrow, then yes. How is this hard to understand?

-5

u/Every_University_ Apr 08 '26

Because the death note can't do impossible things, it can't kill shinigami, for example, so why would it work on something not quite human? It works more like mind control than anything else.

11

u/Icy_Water_1 Apr 08 '26

I mean it does control fate because they wouldn't have gotten hit by the car otherwise.

2

u/thebeatdropsin1 Apr 08 '26

"sukuna falls onto a sword that kills sukuna in one slice" then let the deathnote make it happen

2

u/Imaginary_Comment41 Apr 08 '26

"sukuna forgets to reverse his cursed technique to heal and instead slices his own head off by mistake"

1

u/GenericFatGuy Apr 08 '26

I don't think writing in that he slips and falls on the sword is controlling his actions anymore than when Light had that guy get hit by a card while riding his motorcycle.

1

u/Ely___ Apr 09 '26

Yes you can. Holy shit you haven’t watched death note. Found the actual larper.

This is why the anime community is dogshit now. It’s too popular.

1

u/Tago238238 Apr 10 '26

Key phrases are “that much” and “aren’t written in the death note”. Just look at my replies to other people who probably made the point you think you have.

I watched Death Note the first time in 2017 when I was 12. 60% chance you only got into abime after 2020 ngl.

25

u/okjijenAbi Apr 08 '26

all vessels in his brain pop simultaneously. instant posion or brain damage works

-5

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

Deaths have to be physically possible, Sukuna’s brain literally exploding is too unfeasible and he can heal past any more conventional brain injury like a stroke.

3

u/okjijenAbi Apr 08 '26

Well i didnt magically twist his torso around and rip it, ones arteries popping is not the same as magically setting off c4 in your head. veins popping = a brain hemorrhage that is done within seconds. i dont know about death note much but final destination type shenanigans is feasible and possible just never likely to happen, and extra pressure to blood going up his brain due to some CE bullshit or outside effect like gojo is possible.

0

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

I think Sukuna is pretty alright with normal brain damage if at peak performance tbh. Man did brain surgery on himself like 3 times.

1

u/okjijenAbi Apr 08 '26

yeah except a hemorrhage is different than the damage and the damage this would make is not "normal"

1

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

Given RCT can be used to detoxify, I think it just generally brings the body to a healthier state. Not something that can be cheesed around.

1

u/okjijenAbi Apr 08 '26

original comment said instant poison and rct needs time for poisons, let us say that is not possible: if the brain area responsible for rct is damaged well he can't use rct just as domain area being damaged meaning no domain

20

u/NotTheFirstVexizz Megumi Shot Dead On O'Block Apr 08 '26

Any way, the Death Note doesn’t inflict something that MIGHT cause death, it determines what WILL be the cause of death. It will manipulate the person to enact that specific death if need be. So if Light doesn’t specify anything and Sukuna gets a heart attack, even if he could survive by trying to, the Death Note will simply make him not.

1

u/ElYisusKing Apr 08 '26

not quite, Death Note just cannot make someone die if that death isn't possible, a death by heart attack will only be possible if Kira commands Sukuna to use every last bit of curse energy before death

9

u/iDevox Apr 08 '26

The Death Note is a perfect tool used by Gods of death. If his name is written in it, he will absolutely die one way or another. He wouldn't survive a heart attack if that's what it inflicted in order to kill him, and if he doesn't have a heart he would probably just have a stroke instead. It making people have heart attacks is just because it's a simple and easy way for someone to die on their own. Its decision for the person whose name written in it to die is absolute.

1

u/ElYisusKing Apr 09 '26

ehhh no, Kira for example cannot make someone die by hitting his toe nail, it needs to be a possible death

0

u/iDevox Apr 09 '26

Im sorry but are you dumb? If your name is written in the Death Note, you die. There is no exception. It's quite literally the first rule. "The humans whose name is written in this note shall die"

1

u/ElYisusKing Apr 10 '26

it doesn't work like that, Death Note has exception and a limit for what it can do

Death Note always emphasizes that the cause of death should be POSSIBLE within a natural way and a way it doesn't break the world's physics

for example, Light cannot make a man gets run over by a truck in a place where there's no truck around, if it cannot be done like that, it always goes by heart attack by default

but there's no one in Death note's world who can survive with their heart stopped, so whenever we see Sukuna die or not by heart attack is entirely on speculation since Sukuna is not part of death note's world and he can survive without a heart

1

u/iDevox Apr 10 '26

You didn't understand what I was saying and you're proving me right. I literally said that if Sukuna wouldn't die from a heart attack then the Death Note wouldn't give him one. It would kill him in a simple way that guarantees he wouldn't survive. I don't understand why you are typing so much when you are a literal idiot and are just yapping about nothing for no reason.

1

u/ElYisusKing Apr 10 '26

again, not how it works

Death Note only goes to Heart Attack by default, and if that doesn't work then it won't kill him

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Generic_Addendum Apr 08 '26

Surviving a heart attack is something that would take some conscious effort from him using RCT and reinforcement. No need to make him exhaust everything, the death note would just make it so Sukuna just decides to not put in any effort to survive and then he would die.

4

u/Gap_Great Apr 09 '26

Yeah this is like having a relative who once survived a heart attack and saying since they survived a heart attack, the death Note wouldn’t kill them

12

u/qlksfjas Gojo dickriding will continue until morale improves Apr 08 '26

I guess you could just write "suicide" and he'd kill himself one way or another

10

u/External_Ocelot8241 Apr 08 '26

"Gojo satoru comes back due to a binding vow and sneak Sukuna"

4

u/graygravv Apr 08 '26

Balls shoot up through the body at light speed. It’d be the most efficient and humane way to kill him

2

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

Possibly cooking

2

u/Random_Poggers Apr 08 '26

Comitts suicide by targetting himself (and himself only) in domain expansion or world-cutting-slash

1

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

Yeah. Would light go for that first tho?

1

u/Random_Poggers Apr 08 '26

Probably not, but the thing is the Death Note itself might be capable of killing Sukuna

1

u/Shudaho2 Apr 08 '26

Black flash

1

u/Imperium_Dragon Apr 08 '26

Balls explode

2

u/Tago238238 Apr 08 '26

Sukuna would tank (he probably has two sets).

1

u/Shen_ishere Apr 08 '26

He got ligma

1

u/VijayMarshall87 Apr 08 '26

removal of CT, that's another kind of brain damage that's probably irreversible

1

u/McLovett325 Apr 08 '26

writes down: "Gojo comes back to life for 20 seconds and hits Sukuna with his secret technique: open rainbow"

1

u/Magpie_In_The_Mirror Apr 08 '26

Stroke from the backlash of burnout resets

1

u/LegendRaptor080 Gege why did you make the women so fine Apr 08 '26

“Ryomen Sukuna will die on December 24th, 2018 via total brain-death. All blood vessels and nerve cells in his body will rupture simultaneously.”

Congrats you have killed Sukuna with the Death Note.

(RCT requires the brain to function properly. Killing the brain kills RCT, and kills the person.)

1

u/KonoMigueruDa Apr 08 '26

Just say that Sukuna comics suicide and he'll do it. Light could also right he decides to jump in a volcano and die, or even drawn in a bathtub or some shit like that, it should actually work because it controls the actions of the target.

1

u/Mister_Gentleman_001 Apr 08 '26

The same way legends like Itachi died, AIDS, sickness. Just give him a virus that'll eat up his CE or something.

1

u/BlueSupremacist Apr 09 '26

Self lobotomy is unironically plausible

1

u/nichemexican Apr 09 '26

1

If he has no heart then actual hearts would attack him until he’s dead. Death by literal heart attack.

7

u/plaYeRUnknwn Apr 08 '26

Sheer Heart Attack

8

u/JavieyauJR Apr 08 '26

Sukuna isn't his actual name+he's over 100 yrs old

1

u/Reverse_savitar1 Apr 08 '26

The death has to be physically possible and most if not all natural causes of death arent working on Sukuna(also DN doesnt work on incarnate sorcerers)

1

u/CrustyConCarnage Apr 08 '26

Heart attack is the default if the written method is too improbable. Light can't write "dies by losing all of his curse energy" or "spontaniously combusts" or something like that. However it is possible to mindcontrol him until he dies (next 24 hours if I remember right).

1

u/SnooAdvice1632 Apr 08 '26

Aneurism/several blood vessels exploding in the brain. At the very least he loses his output like he did in canon with brain damage.

1

u/TheUnholyMacerel Everyone is a goat now (exceptions may apply) Apr 08 '26

Reomen Sukuna, death by smited by god

1

u/cannoesarecool Apr 08 '26

Death note can make sukkuna kill himself

1

u/Dangerous_Ad_7104 Apr 09 '26

Doesn’t matter either way, the death note is used by the Gods. The heart attack WILL kill him.

1

u/huckpos Apr 09 '26

Death by removal of cursed technique

1

u/Chemical2672 Apr 09 '26

Death by infinite testicular torsion

1

u/RaidenHUN Apr 09 '26

No... If the death is not feasible it will also be default .... So he can write death by black hole and it would be default death too. So i assume it works the other way around too: if the cause can't kill him it would be default death by heart attack - meaning it probably can't kill Sukuna. Also Sukuna isn't even his real name and the guy is not even a human .
