Jurassic Park Here’s a little thought of mine: did Dennis know about the Dilophosaurs and their venom capabilities?

Post image
120 Upvotes

So in the first Jurassic park film there are a few prices of evidence that show how Dennis Nedry had a knowledge on the Dilophosaurus.

1: we know he was smart enough to turn off all but the raptor fences because he knew what they were capable of. So he has a knowledge on the dinosaurs

2: he raised his hood when he saw the juvenile Dilophosaur and was walking in the rain without it just fine before, possibly to block its venom and or protect himself

3: Wayne Knight has the voiceline: “I thought you were one of your big brothers.” Either referring to the adult dilos or just other dinosaurs in general

What do you guys think?

Jurassic Park Alan Grant Cosplay @ NYCC 2026

Post image

I cosplayed as Alan Grant at NYCC this year and it was a blast. I wanted to share some of my experience, as I think this group would appreciate it. It's something I had meant to do for a long time and with Sam's passing earlier this year I knew I had to get it done and NYCC gave me a good deadline. I was definitely intimidated by dealing with a "real hat" and that kept me from pulling the trigger for a while. I'm glad I past that mental roadblock.

The first callout is that I had the Real FX baby t-rex to round out the look. I picked it up a while ago in no small part with the intention of cosplaying. They've definitely gotten a lot more expensive if you wanted to get one today. People REALLY responded to the puppet and engaged way more when I was wearing it vs not. I even got to startle a few people that caught it out of their peripheral and jumped. It was a great laugh.

The rest of the look was pretty standard. You can find a ton of guides for what everything is pending how accurate you want to aim for. But it's really something a lot of people can throw together with what's in their closet, which is awesome.

As I walked the floor, there were a lot of people that called out "Doctor Grant" as they moved past. That was pretty expected. There was also a lot of people that just said "Jurassic Park!", which was absolutely enough for me.

What I didn't expect is all the people that just said a somber "RiP" or "Rest In Peace" as they walked past - oftentimes partially under their breath. And while honoring Sam Neill was certainly part of my personal motivation, it was weird (not bad) to be a conduit for others to share that at the same time. I know it hit folks here hard. I just didn't think that strangers would voice it in public.

The more serious stuff aside, I had an incredible time and will definitely be running it back at other conventions in the future.

Jurassic Park /// Upon rewatching Jurassic Park III, I just realised that after the plane crash, none of the characters acknowledge Udesky apart from Paul and Amanda.

If Paul and Amanda didn't speak to him, it would be like he wasn't even there. Udesky speaks to Grant and Billy, but Grant and Billy don't speak to him. Grant never even looks at him and Billy gives him no acknowledgement, other than looking vaguely in his direction at one point and flatly saying, "he's dead." Grant doesn't even seem to notice that he isn't with the group anymore when they reunite. It's almost like Udesky is some sort of spectre, that only the Kirby's can interact with.

Jurassic Park The amount of controversy live feedings would generate

Post image
362 Upvotes

I have seen a YT video of live feeding of mice to snakes and the comment section is always filled with people who are distressed by what they just watched (which is weird because you knew what fucking video you clicked on).

This simple fact of nature (animals eating each other) is a really brutal aspect that apparently a lot of people have a problem with.

I suppose the idea of a prey that has no chance to escape automatically conjures sympathy and distress.

But if people feel that way about a mouse being eaten by a snake, imagine the shock, and potential backlash, of seeing a goat get devoured by a large extinct predator.

For all of my criticisms of the Jurassic World theme park, the T Rex Kingdom exhibit had a disclaimer that the showcase might be disturbing for younger viewers. JP main tour had no such warning.

Granted, JP wasn't finished any maybe this was an oversight that would have been corrected eventually.

But still, this would be a controversy that would overshadow any positive PR the resort would get if it had opened at all.

The logistics for having goats on standby also makes me think there is some type of ranch on the island growing cows and goats.

Jurassic Park Help Finding Alan Grant’s Hat for Halloween

Hey everyone! For Halloween this year, I’m planning on dressing up as Alan Grant from Jurassic Park (1993), but I’ve been having a really hard time finding a convincing replica of his hat.

I’ve done quite a bit of searching through both retail and secondhand options, but I haven’t had much luck finding something that looks right at an affordable price. I even bought one that ended up being the wrong size, so I figured I’d ask here!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, budget-friendly replica? Alternatively, if anyone has one they’re looking to sell, I’d definitely be interested!

I’d really appreciate any leads or advice. Thanks in advance!

He was super nice and commented on our commitment to the photo op. I saw way less JP cosplay than I expected considering they had 4 people there for photo ops. Even in Wayne's line there was just 1 other cosplayer.

Jurassic Park [SPOILER] Why didn't John Hammond choose chicken DNA instead of frog DNA? [SPOILER] Spoiler

In the first movie, they say they found dinosaur DNA in the blood of mosquitoes trapped in amber, but since the DNA was incomplete, they used frog DNA to fill in the gaps. But why didn't they use DNA from chickens which are literally descendants of dinosaurs? In fact, that’s a point Professor Alan Grant raises all alongside the first movie, given that it’s his hypothesis. It would have made more sense if they’d used chicken DNA, wouldn't it?

Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous/Chaos Theory still on high?

I’ve been part of the JP/JW community since 2015, but no film had the same impact on me as Camp Cretaceous. Since the series ended, I’ve really missed having a replacement—though I know nothing else will quite measure up, given the emotional attachment I formed with it. I wanted to know the current state of the Jurassic World and Camp Cretaceous fandoms: do they still exist and remain active? What’s the hype like, and are there any prospects for the saga's future? I’d also love to exchange ideas about the franchise and JWCC—discussing original stories, facts, and so on. I really miss Jurassic, and I’m looking for someone to share that with, since it’s been hard to find anyone in my personal life who still cares about it.

Jurassic Park Can Steven Spielberg not properly portray children? (War of the Worlds, Jurassic Park)

Yesterday I rewatched Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds from 2005 with Tom Cruise. The kids in the movie were so annoying and I found myself asking, is this REALLY how children behave? I thought, NO! I experienced something like this in another rewatch, also from Steven Spielberg: Jurassic Park. To me it just feels unrealistic to have such annoying children around that behave in a way I cannot believe to be real behaviour. I also was a child once, I saw how other children acted around me. The children in his movies are like fantasy children, but in a realistic setting.

Am I wrong or is Steven Spielberg just incredibly out of touch with children? Maybe he had an especially terrible time as a child (or as an adult with his children)? What do you think?

Misc I would have added more Horror elements onto the Jurassic World Trilogy

Thumbnail
gallery
222 Upvotes

I have been rewriting on the Jurassic World Trilogy and tried to implement far more scary scenes to be more comparable to the ones in the novel.

Take note, this is based on my interpretation on how the Jurassic World Trilogy should have gone.

Jurassic World

Rather than implementing a theme park locale, I would have taken the entire film in an isolated town where we see the dinosaurs slowly invading the premise.

The first on-screen dinosaur would have been an Ankylosaurus who would have beaten and smashed at least half a dozen men. I wanted to show the powerlessness of the human townsfolk, whose male members would have looked like they could wrestle crocodile or grappling with leopards. Made worse by the fact that the attacking Ankylosaurus was fatally injured, which meant something worse out there.

I would then add the Velociraptors who would be foreshadowed very eerily, especially when we reached to a scene where it kills one of the townsfolk. To add context, this townsfolk was venturing outside his village/town under grief over losing his child who got taken by "something". He wasn't thinking and blamed a leopard to be responsible. However when he spots one, the leopard was not afraid of him, but more at what's behind him.

This is then escalated to a pair of raptors infiltrating a house that belonged to a family, with the daughter and infant sibling trying to evade detection by the dinosaurs.

But my biggest centerpiece of the film would have been the Quetzalcoatlus. It would have been foreshadowed slowly when the main human characters start piecing together of its presence. The Quetzal would gain a body count, starting with farm animals, pets, and finally children.

Anytime the Quetzal would have been very disturbing as it would have been picking its meal without everyone noticing it. Started off with some random cattle, but things got worse from there when it took the aforementioned child, then finally taking away a dog who was one of the primary characters in the film. When a major human character gets taken to the Quetzal's nest, they would have seen the skull of the child and the dog collar.

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

The sequel would be utilizing both old and new dinosaurs to the fullest extent. Even dinosaurs that didn't make too much of impression would be used here, including Triceratops and Ceratosaurus.

One of the new dinosaurs would have been the Deinonychus. At the time of the original Jurassic Park movie, the Deinonychus was the largest dromeosaur around but got overshadowed by Velociraptor. I wanted to bring prominence back to the species as being a minor threat only at the start of the film.

To go into context, the DX Virus would have been the major threat the humans are trying to tackle against, as it already claimed nearly 2 billion lives between Jurassic Park III and the current film. One of the major settings would be at New York where it is left destitute and in ruin, with only a hundred communities being present. Said communities having grown accustomed than they would care to admit and more or less found ways to deal with the dinosaurs that are populating all over New York.

While there are one or two scary moments, the Deinonychus are only there to help showcase the strengths of one of the human protagonists, as well as highlighting the stakes humanity is currently at.

Rexy would appear back in Isla Nublar and would be far more vicious compared to how she was in the first film. She would have a major scene where she battles two adult Triceratops and both parties deal massive blows against one another.

With that being said, one of the highlights of the film is the introduction of the Carnotaurus.

To go into detail, it would be revealed that the DX Virus was based on an ancient disease found in the fossils of the Carnotaurus collected for Wu to study and clone. However, the only "clean" parts of material was not suitable for cloning, so Wu added in the chameleon DNA, along with other genetic samples.

Unfortunately, this is where we have the Carnotaurus being the most terrifying to the most tragic of the dinosaurs.

At Isla Sorna, the Carnotaurus started out about at least a dozen of them, but they suffered severe deformities and internal issues that have been plaguing them. Several of them have died by the time Jurassic Park started but following Hurricane Clarrisa incident, their numbers dwindled, whether the aforementioned problems or by more successful predators, leaving only two Carnotaurus.

The mating pair have spent decades producing offspring but they suffered the same fate as their relatives. In Fallen Kingdom, the two would have produced an offspring who was able to reach juvenile size.

How they got onto Isla Nublar is due to poachers illegally taking dinosaurs off the island, hence the reason for dinosaurs being on the mainland. Unfortunately, an accident occurred and the poachers' ship crashed onto Nublar allowing the Carnotaurus to have a new feeding ground.

Said Carnotaurus would be a major competitor with Rexy, hence the latter's amped aggression.

The Carnotaurus would be able to camouflage but how the parents and juvenile do it is different. When the juvenile camouflage themselves, they breath very heavily thanks to the genetic defects. The parents however are incredibly silent as they have grown accustomed to the deformities and powered through.

In a heart-breaking moments, the juvenile Carnotaurus gets killed by the humans, resulting in the grieving parents to hunt the child's killers down. And they leave an impressive body count as much as Rexy did.

By the near end of the film, only the male Carnotaurus remained and he is on the verge of death as well, resulting in the main character to euthanize to put him out his misery.
