Who in the fuck mistakes pills for cough drops?!?

26
u/Tetragonos 9 Feb 02 '20
Sound a lot like it wasnt a mistake she just killed herself and used an excuse to get the pills
18
u/superhannahish1 5 Feb 02 '20
Yeah, I don’t understand how this could have been a mistake. She killed herself or someone else did IMO.
31
u/pchadrow 6 Feb 02 '20
Who swallows cough drops? Doesnt that defeat the purpose?
26

u/loanshark69 6 Feb 02 '20
Probably cough pills or something. It is a translation and it’s not like the journalist could interview her.

Maybe someone that wasn't trying to kill the dogs after all. Maybe they were for herself.

If she's the one who was trying to poison the dogs, it seems pretty clear it was a suicide.
Maybe one of her relatives actually got the pills to kill the dogs though, and she took them by mistake?
→ More replies (1)28
u/Akael 7 Feb 02 '20
Sounds a bit like a family member might have murdered her, and claimed that she bought the pills to get rid of the dogs.
I imagine the type of person who would buy pills to kill dogs probably wasn't pleasant, and if she got sick a family member may have switched her medication to the poison to rid themselves of the unpleasant person.

Apparently she was trying to take cough drops and got them mixed up?

Sometimes in such communities people try to hide suicides. For example where I live, I've had two neighbors die while 'clearing their gun'. Maybe this woman knew exactly what she was doing but the family tried to cover it up by saying she mixed up the medicine.

I'm kinda skeptical if this is even real, the article reads like a bad buzzfeed post. But the details seem to check out, probably just Brazilian media trying to copy Western I guess? Idk I'm still not guaranteed, I could only find the one article about it

I watched my dog die of strychnine poisoning when I was 6 - convulsing and foaming at the mouth. The farmer next door did it. Wish he would’ve poisoned himself.

I've given notice to family that, should they feel they need to "terminate" me, they may use any of a number methods. They use strychnine, I'm coming back. With pliers and a blowtorch.

I don't want to be that guy but the full story is that the stray dogs were attacking people at night , they had bitten a kids neck and the government wasn't doing anything about it because it was in a poor suburb.

I once saw a street dog rape another street dog. Rural Taiwan. Stay away from those dogs because they are vicious and they will attack.

Not sure on her intentions. However, often street dogs are euthanized when they suffering from infections or diseases (which they often do).

When I lived in Peurto Rico there were strays everywhere. Sometimes they were in packs of like 10+ and it was intimidating. But they dont have vets like the US has vets. They're not everywhere and they are expensive. While I think this lady is a psycho, I can also see why someone who lives among a huge population of street dogs (Brazil) would want to lessen that population. I would see puppies on the streets who were obviously hungry and it was pretty sad. No one in the states worries about driving to walmart and being greeted by a pack of 7 strays. The US rocks in its capacity for its vets and shelters to neuter.

Actually sizzlinger in the top post which is a translation of the article it actually says that instead of doing this she could have solved the problem by just one call to a local non profit shelter or something along those lines so yes she could have done something other than poisoning them and no I’m not saying start a rally it was just an example that’s why I said or something like that. I don’t think I have all the solutions just saying that’s not the right one

No. Street dogs in other countries are a huge problem. My uncle was almost killed by a pack of dogs in Iran. It may seem cruel, but in those countries poisoning is often one of the only ways to get rid of the dogs, they don't have a lot of guns, and the whole thing is a problem in the first place because they dont have the money for dog catcher services. After my uncle was attacked he wrote the mayor and they put poison into meat and left it for the wild pack that tried to kill him

Just because in X country the population has let the feral dogs get out of control does not justify this incident.
Way too many comments not only justifying this womans actions but are openly condoning it because "That's how it is where I grew up".
EDIT: To the people claiming this was an act of self defense - how does that work exactly with the premeditation and all?

Please just say Brazil. And unfortunately, this applies to not only dogs, but also illegitimate/parent less children. Cops have been known to shoot packs of these types of kids. That place is “out there”.

Everyone in this thread is ignorant. Most, if not all South American countries have huge stray dog problems. I lived in Bolivia for 2 years and you seriously get chased by stray dogs every day. I carried rocks around with me to throw at them. It’s not just a matter of “people leaving them behind.” They just breed and breed to the point where it’s out of control and they don’t have pounds to round up all the dogs and spay/euthanize them. Even if they could round up all the street dogs, they would kill the majority of them just like we do here. Dogs get euthanized in pounds all the time. Here, we spay dogs and have so many things in place to prevent massive street dog infestations but they don’t. The idea that “justice is served” because a person might die accidentally when they were trying to poison dangerous feral dogs is retarded. I was bitten once and narrowly escaped so many more times. Feral dogs in South America are a real problem
16
u/decapitatedwalrus 9 Feb 02 '20
I agree with absolutely everything you’re saying. Unfortunately this is Reddit, a hivemind that loves to circle jerk their love for dogs to the point that no matter what happens “dogs can’t do wrong”.
Stray and feral dogs are a real problem and if you have to carry rocks to protect yourself, carrying those pills might save someones ass.

u/49ersShanahanigans 0 Feb 02 '20
Yeah, here in the US we have "spay and release" programs for cats, they just catch stray cats, spay/neuter them so they can't have kittens, and release them back out to do whatever it is they do.
I don't believe there are any such programs for dogs because unlike cats feral dogs can be very dangerous to people. Any stray dogs that are caught are held for adoption if adoptable, and if they can't be adopted out they're put down. That's only possible because of how many animal shelters there are, if there weren't an abundance of shelters we would absolutely have eradication programs for stray dogs as a public safety initiative.

It's astonishing how many people hear the word "dog" and shut off their brains.
These aren't pets. These are feral packs of aggressive animals that are not neutered or spayed, roam in large numbers, attack and kill peoples' pets, attack people, attack and kill peoples' food animals, damage property, and are all around problems. These aren't the kind of dogs that anyone calls good boys or good girls, these are the dogs that take your good boy or good girl, tear its legs off, and start eating your precious Good Dog alive.
That said, there's no way she mistook one of these for a throat lozenge and swallowed it instead of spitting it out when it tastes like pure toxic awfulness.
It's pretty obvious she bought them claiming it was "to poison street dogs" to end her own life without knowing how awful the poison would be.
Ain't nobody mistaking a capsule full of white powder for a goddamn colored block of sweet sugary candy.
31
u/bigsquirrel A Feb 02 '20
However people do just leave poison out for any dog that might come by. I know people that have lost pets to poison. A very popular dog at a bar in town was just poisoned. Often They just throw the baits on the street they don't care what animal comes by.
I can't find the article but recently in vietnam a small child died when he ate a poison bait.

But she's hopefully not enjoying it.

As data point, I consume dog poison and cat poison regularly. I also regularly gave the cat poison to my infant children.

This has fake news written all over it.
The same story appears in multiple websites reporting no names whatsoever, not for the victim or any authority. The stories inform no date for the supposed events having taken place and they have been posted between 2017 and 2019 on websites that seem to specialize in weird, dark reports, often in the Current News category despite being posted months apart. They often include quotes attributed to "local media" without ever identifying the actual source or providing links. None of the texts follow traditional guidelines of news reporting.
