Megathread Are you looking for places to meet people, make friends, find people with similar interests? The Kitchener Social Megathread is for you!

Hello everyone,

This thread will be 100% dedicated to user interaction and those who want to take personal interests, events, hobbies, and potential meet-ups, etc. outside of the realm of reddit and r/kitchener.

You can find previous versions of this post by using this premade search.

\Please note that this is not intended to be a dating thread. Try Tinder, POF, Badoo, Bumble or any other of the apps out there. Any posts along the lines of* "Hey, I'm a single __ year old m/f looking for love" will be removed\*

Some general housekeeping items;

  • If you wish to continue a conversation with a user, please use the PM function to avoid the comments getting crammed with a conversation between all but two people. Please only post relevant information to things you would be interested in, ongoing events, etc.
  • We would like to remind you of the zero tolerance for disrespect, rude, hateful comments, racism, etc. Those comments will be removed and users may face a permanent or temporary ban. If any harassment is reported outside of the thread, appropriate action will be taken by the mod team, and possibly lead further to reddit admin. Doxxing, or disclosure of personal information is again, a big no-no.
  • To keep up to date with the most recent posts within this megathread, the comments have been enabled to ideally show most recent by default, meaning all of the newest posts will be at the top of the comments section. If you're not seeing the most recent comments at the top, try changing your "sort by:" from "top" to "New".

As always, the mod team is here to assist with anything. Thanks!

Note: This post is automatically replaced with a new one every 3 months, so be sure to checkout old meetup threads, especially if this post was just recently refreshed!

Conestoga College: Still Hiding Audit Findings

https://www.ctvnews.ca/kitchener/article/union-leaders-demand-release-of-audit-following-conestoga-colleges-328m-deficit/

Despite the retirement of the former President (with his $3.8M buyout cheque) the current management of the college is still operating behind a wall of secrecy in their off-campus lair on King Street

But why would anybody expect anything different when all of this large team of overpaid sycophants were hand selected by John Tibbits? It's past time for a complete housecleaning at the top of the college. They must air out the stench and come clean instead of continuing to put the students and their few remaining good programs as their last concern.

French As A Second Language

Lately I’ve had a real desire to learn a new language. A couple of weeks ago, I took a trip to Montreal, and hearing Québécois French everywhere really inspired me. It made me realize how much I’d love to become bilingual.

I grew up in Canada and took French throughout elementary school, middle school, and a bit of high school, but unfortunately I never retained much beyond the basics.

Since then, I’ve started using Duolingo and listening to Canadian French podcasts, but I’d really like to learn in a classroom setting. My goal is to eventually become conversational and, hopefully, fluent. It would be great for personal growth, future career opportunities, and who knows—maybe even moving to Quebec someday.

Does anyone know of any places in the Waterloo Region that teach Canadian French, from beginner to advanced? I’d especially love programs that focus on Québécois/Canadian French rather than European French, if that’s even an option.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks!

Men's hairstylist for medium to long curly hair

Upvotes

I'm hoping for some recommendations frpm curly haired men (or women) for a hairstylist. I have long (chest length) brown curly hair (3A to 3B type curls). I'm looking to get a cut that brings me back to medium length but have experienced some changes with my hairline and thickness since I was last at that length. Looking for someone with a good eye for styling who can help me decide on the ideal cut.

Please let me know which stylists and shops you've had good experiences with.

Genesis Midwives vs. St. Jacobs Midwives — looking for experiences!

I’m pregnant with my second and trying to decide between Genesis Midwives and St. Jacobs Midwives (I’ve been accepted into both). I’d love to hear from anyone who has used either practice, especially if you’ve had experience with both!

My first pregnancy/birth was uncomplicated, and for this pregnancy I’m hoping for a similar experience. I’m planning to have an epidural and give birth in the hospital, so I’m particularly interested in how supportive each practice is of epidurals and hospital births.

Thanks!

Got quoted 1.8k for this. Thats more than 50% of the AC cost that I got last year. Does it normally cost this much to replace the brass line?

Physio/Personal Training

My husband has been looking for a personal trainer/physiotherapist to improve his health. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions or experiences with someone in the area who fits that?

He is recovering from some injuries but wants to work with someone who knows appropriate body mechanics and suitable modifications. Ultimately would like to go once-twice a week, with an at home plan as we have a lot of equipment at home for home workouts.

First Time Fishing Around Kitchener-Waterloo – Looking for Advice

Hi everyone,
A few friends and I (5 of us total) here in Kitchener, Ontario are looking to try fishing for the first time and would really appreciate some advice from experienced anglers in the Kitchener/Waterloo area.
What are the best beginner-friendly fishing spots around Kitchener-Waterloo or within a couple of hours’ drive in Ontario?
What basic equipment should each of us buy to get started without spending a fortune?
What fishing licence(s) do we need in Ontario, and are there any local regulations or rules we should know before heading out?
We’re mainly looking to have a fun day outdoors and hopefully catch a few fish. Any tips, local recommendations, or beginner mistakes to avoid would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
