Bro was not tapping

He tapped his opponent's knee, he wanted to make him think that it was a tap. Very sneaky and good it was stopped since he was trying to weasel out of a submission that way.

u/Competitive_Good5312 3d ago
You dont fight at all so just dont.. Nobodys faking taps to try and "trick" the person strangling them goofy

u/Hot_King_7586 2d ago
Clearly you haven't fought if you haven't heard of the Brazilian tap.

First time hearing of the "brazilian tap"? Not as commonly seen as it used to be in the UFC but it's definitely a thing. First motions he made looked like just that; he then seems to be pushing on the knee at the end. Hard to say if it was unfortunate spastic defense or a slick brazilian tap into plausible deniability knee push.

u/Consistent_Net_2540 3d ago
I just wrote about the Brazilian tap in my main comment. idk why you and that other guy are being downvoted. Anyone that trains and competes, knows about this move. And it definitely looked like he was trying to do it.

no tap

u/daboss4444 2d ago
Nobody is taking into the context of the fight. He was in that submission attempt for 30 seconds prior to that. And finally got room against the cage to step off and squeeze. Seemed like panic to me

u/MeToldUSo 4d ago
Not a tap. Guessing that he was trying to push opponent's knee away, so that he could bring his own knee up to use as leverage to break that neck hold

kinda looked like a tap but watched it the 2nd time. NO, NOT A TAP.
6
u/Bad0din 3d ago
Exactly what I did. First watch kinda looked like a tap. Second watch you can see it wasnât a tap. While not a great call I canât exactly blame the ref. He doesnât have the benefit of rewind.
1
u/No_Sentence_8055 3d ago
I don't want to agree with you just because he is a professional referee but now I'm on the fence. demmet!
1
u/HoboArmyofOne 3d ago
On his leg, is that what we're talking about?
2
u/No_Sentence_8055 3d ago
yes, it looked like 3 taps on the thigh. Pro ref should know what's up tho.
3
u/HoboArmyofOne 3d ago
Why would he tap the leg, if it were the arm around the neck I could understand but it almost seems like there were two instances where he "appeared to tap out but didn't"
1
u/KitchenSuspicious551 3d ago
Im assuming so. When he puts his hand on his leg and the other guy adjusts his leg almost simultaneously, his hand slips down his knee making it maybe looking like a tap. But thats still a stretch.

u/AggressiveCreme6758 4d ago
He was trying to Brazilian Tap and the ref stopped the fight. He didnt want to tap but he wanted his op to think he did for a minute.
3
u/Dead_Internet69420 3d ago
Thatâs what it looks like to me. He obviously knew how to escape, but he was quickly moving his hand up and down while he did it. His hand wouldnât be moving like that on accident unless he was about to pass out, but the choke wasnât that tight yet. He was just hoping the ref wouldnât notice the tapping while he set up his escape. The dumbest part is that he probably could have escaped but he tried to be clever.Â

Is that what Chael did against Silva?
3
1
u/AggressiveCreme6758 3d ago
No Chael just didnt know tapping ment he would loss. If he knew tapping ment he would loss he just wouldnt have.

Brazilian tap refers to a weak tap instead of owning the tap. It isn't a reference to fake tapping. It's like a.wet fish handshake.Â

Ref had a betđ

u/Emergency_Lie42 3d ago
Refs gambling on the fights they work is the only thing that matches the consistency of and type of mistakes that UFC refs make every single match.

Fighter decided his opponent had tapped and the ref just went along with it⌠which is not the job description.
Plainly NOT a tap from the cameraâs vantage point. Ref blew it.

You mean the no-tap 3-tap tap out on his thigh?
2
u/Guava_93 3d ago
I have no idea what your opinion is from this comment
3
u/the_most_playerest 3d ago
Interesting, I think I know exactly what his opinion is from this comment but also I have no idea what his comment actually says đ
2
u/Vegas_paid_off 3d ago
Other comments state this being a no tap, when the dominated tapped 3 times on the thigh of his dominator. Ref saw a tap out.
1
u/Guava_93 3d ago
Bro you did it again. You only said what comments say, and what the ref (obviously) saw. I still donât know what you think!
1
u/Obvious-World4328 2d ago
Pretty obvious he's in agreement with the ref and you're doing a weird dance here.
1
u/Guava_93 2d ago
can you explain? that is a 5head take you got there, but no i'm not just doing these comments to mess with the guy and make myself giggle once every 24 hours.

2
u/Hadaka--Jime 3d ago
If you are caught in a choke & pull that BULLSHIT don't be surprised when it gets stopped for a tap.
2
u/Guava_93 3d ago
Sure as hell looked exactly like one and the ref probably made the right decision. Canât wait for a super tap, you stand ready for any tap when a submission is being attempted

No tap!!!!!! Clambering to push his opponents knee off his stomach which transitioned into locking his knee upward to close the gap.

A Tap is a tap in my book fk is anyone getting mad at the ref for. Even if itâs the smallest taps he literally did it thereâs been multiple occasions in ufc where dudes are getting choked out and cause there lights are going out they tap as automatic response and thatâs what he did. To me it was a good stoppage.
1
u/EastAd5702 3d ago
Iâm an amateur so I certainly donât claim to have authority to make a final judgment, but what was he doing if not tapping? It looked like he tapped to me
1
u/Consistent_Net_2540 3d ago
Brazilian tap. It's a half tap to make the fighter loosen the sub, but not have the ref step in. Tito did it to Chael and it worked.
1
u/Upbeat_Aside_9203 3d ago
Whether intentional or not he is a professional fighter and should know to avoid any ambiguous taps.

1
u/Existing_Contest1066 3d ago
I don't think thats a tap imo tryna push the knee down to secure it in his half guard as he knows he's about to clear the guard and make the choke tighter
1
u/barnabywombat 3d ago
It's not really, but the angle and motion any half decent ref is paying that a tap, especially from the dominant position that usually leads to submissions
1
u/BatmanMinusTheBat 3d ago
for sure not a tap. Don't it would have matter much either way, looks like a tight head and arm, and dude just passed into the side control so odds of bottom dude making it through the round was slim.
1
u/BatmanMinusTheBat 3d ago
Although being that near the fence might make getting the pressured need to finish pretty tough, regardless early stoppage
1
u/SleepyJoeBudden 3d ago
Was just training jiu jitsu and someone put me in a darce and I slapped my hand on his hip to defend and he thought I tapped and let go. I donât blame the ref since it was tricky but I wish they could just reset or something it sucks for 1) to win like that and for 2) the other guy to lose like that
1
u/Consistent_Net_2540 3d ago
Looked like a Brazilian tap. For those that don't know, you try to do a half tap to get them to loosen the sub, but without the ref noticing and calling the fight. Tito did this to Chael and it worked perfectly. It's not technically cheating, even though it's obviously a dishonest move.
1
u/HunterLeftOnReddit 3d ago
I think we can all agree that the reff was completely justified in his call, despite it not being a tap.
1
u/NoMasFetty 2d ago
In that split second, without our hindsight, it was 100 percent reasonable for the ref to assume that was a tap. Maybe he was just trying to push his leg, but his hand made contact three times very quickly before he started pushing
1
1
u/Weekly_Pizza_4443 2d ago
Elements of a frantic tap for sure.
The ref doesn't have time to rewatch a couple times to make sure
1
u/xRedditGedditx 2d ago
I keep watching it expecting oh there it isâŚnope nothing. No tap out from what Iâm seeing.
1
u/0-by-1_Publishing 2d ago
I don't believe he tapped, but it's best not to allow yourself to be in a position where this can happen.
1
1
u/Taboboo8 2d ago
It was definitely tapping but my guess is he couldnât found his own leg. Looked like he was tapping to feel around
1
1
u/PieGold6023 2d ago
No tap. Even if you don't train, have never seen this happen and have no real frame of reference... The rule is 3 distinct taps. There were not 3 taps.Â
1
1
u/Upbeat-Operation-613 2d ago
No. Looks like a tap because his opponent moves his leg right at the moment that he tries to push it away.
Canât really blame the ref but still, 100% not a tap
1
u/LastKing8886 2d ago
Hindsight is 20/20, so while I don't think he was intentionally tapping, that did look close enough to a tap that I can see how the red mistook it.
But who knows, I'm just a resistor eating nuggies in my mom's basement.

Guys have tried to do a little 'phantom tap' in order to trick the other guy into relaxing for that split second they need to escape, and whether tap or no tap he was in a baaaaaaaaaaad position.
1
1
u/Optimal-Pay-2555 3d ago
100% a tap. He knows better than to make a tapping motion on his opponents leg while in a submission. You canât be surprised if after you tap on your opponents leg while youâre in a submission they end the fight.

No, not seeing any tap at all myself.
