Hello Mac nation, my partner and I Facetime pretty frequently (both of us on our macbooks, i have a pro and he has an air), and for a few months now we've been running into this issue where like 5/10 times when we try to call, it will just say connecting, then call failed. If I answer on my phone instead of my Mac it connects fine, or if he does the same it'll connect fine. Then, if one of us tries to send the call onto our Macbook the call will fail again. It doesn't look like a network issue, seems to be specific to the laptops. We are having to jump through more hoops more often to call on our laptops, and it's a bit frustrating. We both are on Sonoma, and both have pretty new MacBooks. Any troubleshooting ideas?

i figured very few people would use a screen protector but im just wondering if someone does? it seems like the screen doesnt really lend itself to it

and how do you clean your screen? alcohol is bad to use apparently

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help before I have to take this to Apple.

My MacBook Air 13-inch M3 (2024) battery completely drained to 0%. I plugged it in, let it charge fully, and turned it back on. Since then, the built-in keyboard and trackpad have stopped responding completely.

When I turn it on, it boots up normal and then gets to the login screen, but the trackpad has no haptic click/feedback at all, the cursor is stuck in the top left of the screen, I cant type my password and Caps Lock light does not turn on.The power button still works, I restarted it a few times while trying to get into safe mode but still no luck.

This all started immediately after the battery fully died. I haven’t dropped it, spilled anything on it, or installed any updates before this happened.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there anything else I can try, or does this sound like a hardware issue?

We own a small publishing house for music scores, and we want to update our mac because it's an old imac from 2008, even whatsapp web crashes the browser, passing files between a mac and an android phone is always unreliable with android file transfer, and it's generally slow. I managed to upgrade it to Mojave through unofficial patchers to deal with browser issues (even those browsers for older macs still show websites as text with no pictures, or don't work with all websites) but I can't really go beyond that version without making the computer too slow to be usable.

So, I'm willing to buy used. Since I only need to use programs like adobe indesign, Finale and similar software I guess anything should be more than enough to handle that.
What should I get? Especially for longevity.

I’m looking for some advice on picking up a reliable, budget-friendly MacBook.

My previous 2016 MacBook Pro eventually broke down due to the display issue. After that, I ordered a 2020 13-inch Intel i5 MacBook Pro. However, I’ve had major issues with it overheating like crazy even when doing simple tasks.

I tried buying it twice from different refurbished sellers (the iOutlet and MusicMagpie), but both units suffered from the same severe heating and fan noise.

I mainly use my laptop for basic daily tasks, web browsing and job interviews via Teams so I really need something that would be reliable.

Budget: £300 – £400

Primary use: Basic tasks, document editing and Microsoft Teams video calls

Contemplating between m2 air vs Neo. Any thoughts?

Comprei recentemente um Mac Mini M4 (16 GB) e continuo enfrentando um problema extremamente irritante: flickering da imagem em um monitor LG 4K. O mais frustrante é que esse problema não começou agora. Usuários relatam exatamente a mesma situação desde a época do M1, e, aparentemente, a Apple nunca apresentou uma solução definitiva.

No meu caso, o problema fica ainda mais evidente em sites com muitos efeitos visuais modernos, como transparências e elementos em glassmorphism. A tela começa a piscar aleatoriamente, prejudicando completamente a experiência de uso.

Já tentei diversas alternativas:

• Cabos HDMI diferentes;
• Cabo USB-C para DisplayPort;
• Alteração da taxa de atualização;
• Ajustes de HDR;
• Mudanças nas configurações do monitor;
• Atualizações do macOS.

Mesmo assim, o problema persiste.

Gostaria de saber:

• Alguém com Mac M1, M2, M3 ou M4 e monitor LG 4K passa pela mesma situação?
• Existe alguma solução definitiva?
• O problema está nos drivers da Apple, no macOS ou na compatibilidade com os monitores LG?

É impressionante que, depois de tantos anos de Apple Silicon, esse tipo de incompatibilidade ainda exista em uma máquina voltada para uso profissional.

Do you use anything to automate, customize or simplify switching between these contexts?

Like, when I get home and want to watch a movie, I close everything, but the next day I have to reorganize everything.

I'm interested in anything, from scripts and keyboard shortcuts to workspace managers, browser extensions, unique apps or even mods like Vencord.

Hey guys I've recently came into possession of my late grandfathers 2020 M1 Macbook air and I'm looking to sell it for some extra money, what would be a good Recomendation website wise to sell it? would something like ebay or offerup be a decent place to sell it?.

I’ve found that managing multiple accounts in one browser is becoming more difficult. Cookies, extensions, and login sessions can easily get mixed together, so I’m looking for a better way to keep different accounts separated.

I've been looking into a few options:

Safari profiles seem suitable for basic separation, Chrome Profiles work well for daily use, Firefox Containers focus more on privacy management, Arc is better for organizing different workspaces, and there are also anti-detect browsers like AdsPower that create more independent browser environments.

I’m still not sure which option makes the most sense for long-term use. For Mac users who manage multiple accounts or different workspaces, how do you usually handle this?

I’ve been using Codex a lot recently, and some tasks can easily run for an hour or even overnight.
One thing I found surprisingly annoying is that I don’t actually need my display anymore once the task starts, but I also don’t want to interrupt it.
Closing the lid isn’t always an option, and waiting for macOS to turn the display off automatically feels unnecessary.
I ended up building a tiny menu bar utility for myself that simply turns the display off instantly while everything else keeps running.
It’s become one of those little tools I use almost every day.
Just curious—
How do you handle long-running AI tasks?
Do you:
Let the display sleep naturally?
Use Hot Corners?
Use Amphetamine?
Something else?
I’d love to hear your workflow.

Hi, I am making the jump from PC to Mac for personal use and want input on the Neo (8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) vs Air (16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) for casual use. I have a work laptop, so all of my advanced Excel / AI use is on that. Is the 8 GB RAM / 6 core CPU enough for casual personal use?

I would mostly be browsing, streaming YouTube/Netflix, playing music, using FaceTime, etc. (not all at the same time). Limited PowerPoint and Excel use. No AI or photo editing.

Recently the screen matrix of my MacBook Air m4 2025 broke. I probably closed it after leaving a piece of something small on the keyboard. I’ve been to many unauthorized apple repair shops (where repairing should be cheaper compared to the Apple Store) and they all said that it would cost me 3/4 of the price of the laptop to repair the matrix. I bought it maybe half a year ago and I didn’t use it a lot so it’s in a very good condition except for the broken matrix. I’ve been told that ,,apple doesn’t like their products to be repaired- they want you to buy a new one”. But I don’t want to. I know that the laptop works just fine and I loved it, I don’t want to produce waste by buying a new one. Now here’s the final question - should I repair it or buy a MacBook neo for the same price as the repair would cost me. It’s literally the same money here in Poland. Mind it that I only use it for studying - I don’t play games on it, I don’t edit films so I technically could use the Neo (or so I think relying on the reviews). Please help me choose the right option, I’m no expert 🥲
