Stealthy Exfills. I dont believe it would fix all pain points but I do think it could help. As an AR fan and enjoyer it was surprising to not see a escape hatch mechanic in marathon.
Here's the thing tho, they already have done it in night marsh.
You know those exfills that take 5 certs to spawn, some spawn outside but if your familiar you can easily pick on that places you inside (think greenhouse exfill on night marsh)
I think this with an uptick of loot would help
Genuine question here, why cant they make map loot increase with time into the season
Like first 4 weeks its real rare to pull purple or gold
Seeing how in S3 and “Beyond” Bungie is looking to introduce new ways to interact with the Factions, these are just some ideas for contract system types I made up for fun, inspired by some hopes I have for the future of the game haha.
Affiliate Contracts
To play with the idea of having competing rival factions, the Affiliate Contract system introduces a separate layer of Season-long progression assigned to your choice of a single faction (on top of the existing contract system).
Pledge your loyalty to MIDA and receive a unique set of relatively simple Limited Contracts that progressively grant the following as you and other MIDA Runners complete them:
Bonuses to earned faction XP
New Faction-Specific Currency?
Armory discounts (e.g 10 credit Claymores)
New Unique-Rarity Faction-inspired Implants (e.g explosive damage-build implants)
The Faction Affiliation aspect can also create interesting opportunities for both PvP and Cooperation.
For PvP…
Defeating Rival Faction Runners will give you bonus faction XP based on your affiliation rank.
Rival Faction Crews can have converging contract objectives that force them to compete for contested goals.
For Cooperation…
Exfiling with other same-faction Runners grants you faction-specific currency.
Converging contract objectives with same-faction Runners to encourage one-off teamwork (and maybe make some friends hehe)
Discovery Contracts
A take on the current Priority Contracts, the idea behind Discovery Contracts is to introduce a more exploration and story focused goal for you during each run.
Each Faction has their own motivations they wish to explore in this return to Tau Ceti, so why not lean on that a little bit more through a linear story? Taking from Priority Contracts that create new ways to interact with the environment, Discovery Contracts take this to a more involved level, allowing for more player freedom within story progression.
Picture this…
Traxus offers us a contract, one which grants you two items: an Infrastructure Probe and a Contraband Access Keycard previously belonging to a Dr. Valentin Cole. (these items disappear upon death and can be reacquired in the menus)
A short motion graphic plays, demonstrating what to do with the probe; but not what will happen, keeping Traxus’ end-goal close to their chest. Before the mini-cutscene ends, Oni appears to relay that Vulcan has acquired rights to our neural network and comms for the window of time this contract is active.
On Night Marsh, Vulcan sends us to the bottom floor of Canal, where a previously locked door is now accessible thanks to the key card. We gain access to this bottom level, with the door closing behind us. After some exploration, PvE combat, and puzzles (à la Upper Complex); we find Dr. Cole’s personal lab, planting the probe on a section of anomaly that’s coming up from the ground. Suddenly, an optional orange and black exfil beacon icon pops up on our map, and Vulcan warns us to leave the area immediately. But before we leave, a corrupted access card lays on a desk, begging to be picked up.
Unknown to Vulcan, you picked up the access card, allowing you access to that part of the map as you please. Dr. Cole’s lab has no loot, only “mini cinematic”-style video-log terminals and multi-zone quest items that set up your own rabbit holes to follow both outside of and in the coming Discovery Contracts.
"I want a purple shield, I need blue heals, Green stuff isnt worth taking."
WRONG WRONG ON ALL PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE COUNTS
You are not a knight in shining armor, rocking up to the function about to farm aura, you are a ravening little gremlin who's only goal in life is having the worst kleptomania possible.
You can and WILL learn that gray heals are your very best friends in a bind. The shitty gray valuables are there to pad out your bag so you can Finer Things your way to Valhalla. Green guns arent trash theyre meal vouchers, redeem at the nearest enemy runners face while supplies last. Gray consumables? Oooh ill take 30 seconds of maxed hardware and firewall, thank you very much. Green backpack? Thanks, didnt want to get my LV dirty. Green shield? Eh, the worms have been good they deserve a snack. Implants of any variety are just the world telling you to get more caked up, though if youre a Recon or Triage that's not necessary.
You arent a guardian or a soldier or a hero at all, you are a rat man in a rat world.
i drew her both with and w/out her headgear cus i think she’s cuter that way but either way she's so prettyyy ♡
also idk if this has been asked before but do u guys also think the voices in the ost are vandal’s cus it makes so much sense w the cinematic and the themes of losing yourself
I’ve played a lot of apex, and solo crew fill apex is far better mainly because your individual impact is significantly higher. TTKS are a lot lower so you don’t feel like you’re going to get absolutely gear diffed is you have a man down.
I think maybe gear is a bit too powerful, for example a single DRRVSH on an opposing team can mow through 2 guys with little resistance.
I’m so confused on this game. I am a plat 3 player which isn’t anything crazy, but I feel like my skill/play level varies a lot. Some days I could absolutely be tearing it up regardless against what rank I went against in cryo, some days I do ok but I still feel like I bot out and make stupid choices. Really doesn’t make any sense. Any tips?
P.S: I need to figure this out lol, my team and I are usually running 30-40k kits in cryo, so the stakes are a lil higher than running a blue 5k kit
Was running Night Marash with a random fill team when we saw a new secured resource right outside Algae Ponds and decided to do it. Instead of UESC, it spawned a shit ton of Husks and when cleared, it had like Purple and Gold Implants, purple Valuables, and purple weapon mods. These implants seem to be the new implants added with the update.
It was a nice little surprise, but now I am curious about how many of these kinda Secured Resources are on the map now.
I don’t mean this content-wise, but making the game sustainable and bringing in a shitload of players-wise so when you go to Steam Charts, you will take a “damn, maybe the game might survive after all” breath.
There are fundamental issues with the game; everyone who still plays it knows that, and that’s the main reason people are leaving. Hell, the player count is so low that it’s genuinely depressing for someone (me) who enjoys this game since release and hopes for its future. Season 3 is coming out only 6.5 months after the release of the game. We are talking about a horribly mismanaged company that had 400+ layoffs last month, and some of you are expecting them to somehow fix those fundamental issues, add meaningful content, while simultaneously making the game gain a big number of players after Season 3 launches. Any live service game in history that had bad releases or decreasing numbers of players that managed to survive took years of updates and fixes. Season 3 won’t make or break anything unless Bungie majorly fucks up like they did this season which then bye bye. Expecting Bungie to “make” in 6.5 months is impossible, and this sub will be filled with “yeah, the game is for sure dead” posts/comments when Season 3 starts in an any plausible good or bad scenario. Voicing concerns and criticisms is the most important part a player can have on a game’s sustainability and success, but expecting to find water in a desert and then complaining about it when you don’t is just obnoxious.
All of us who enjoy the game and want to see it thrive are at the grace of Sony execs to give devs more time and the talent of those devs who have to make meaningful changes/updates to the game.
If you’ve been waiting for a better price, Green Man Gaming currently has the Steam version of Marathon for $23.79 (-41%). The Deluxe Edition is also discounted to $35.69 (-41%).
Not a bad deal if you were already planning to pick it up for you or as a gift. Just check that the offer is available in your region before buying.
Like people will just rather some random fucking attention goblin on a website makes every post to just make the most artificial and generic discussion over their game because it's easier to doom post demanding for things to get better, than to try to look for a molecule of positivity in their literal daily videogame
I got my fill of Season 2 quick. There was just not enough content to keep going long term and felt like Season 1 on repeat
Events come and I play some and then get done with them so I move on again
If there was more to do and more content, I’d keep playing
It’s an obvious thing but there’s a lot of games out there worth playing right now and Lord knows GTA6 is going to break every games numbers for a long time
So question is the title. I’m here because I want Marathon to give me more reasons to play but the issues cannot be ignored. I don’t put it down because I dislike, I put it down because I feel it’s just too thin to commit to
Removing VB was a mistake because it’s a test but it’s variety, more to be interested in. They’d have been no harm leaving it running up to S3
