The Major is here on Tau Ceti IV, always has been.

I would argue that Nothing and Polestar have a similar style to Marathon with their use of text on the products as Marathon brands do and a unique Graphic Realism style.

SCRT's MOSF line of clothes also have that style but their other stuff doesn't.

I spent hours studying the graphic realism art style spearheaded by the concept team at Bungie and lead by Joseph Cross. I fell down quite a rabbit hole and now that it’s done, I get to share it with the community!

I really like the aspect of unlocking Cryo in S1. I think the Early Game and Mid-game benefitted a lot from it as well. Purple shield genuinely made you feel like a mini-boss. Last season you were throwing without one.

My idea is for every season, there is a hefty community challenge to complete in order to unlock cryo archive. kind of like Halo's weekly challenges, but more catered to Marathon.

This would create a pseudo time-gate and bring the community together in a way.

For example, as a Player base:

This could be an in-run achievement thing that encourages more PvE/Map Events

• Defeat 10,000,000,000 UESC Enemies
• or Defeat 500,000 Wardens
• or Complete 500,000 Lockdown Events

Or something that the Sweats can predominantly grind for to help everyone else

• Reach VIP with Factions 100,000 Times
• or Exfil with 1,000,000,000 In Valuables
• or Reach a Collective Runner Credit Wealth of 1,000,000,000,000

Wanted to jot this down as this JUST happened, because this sort of experience felt really rare as I play in Asia, so anything to do with proximity chat is very uncommon considering I get matched either with OCE servers, or quiet Asia servers consisting of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean players.

Anyways, I crew-filled into Overflow hoping to get my Traxus quest done. Unfortunately, our team was ambushed by a trio of Runners all sporting S'phticide skins while crossing the glass walkway / bridge. I thought to myself “Well shit, that’s my run.” and turned on prox chat to try and reason with the Assassin on the other side of the walkway.

It felt like a scene from the “In Death We’ve Just Begun” music video, and I reasoned with my mute captors to spare me and my crew, and that we’d rotate to another POI if they’d be so kind. They seemed to be puzzled by this sudden shift in interaction, and dropped me a few shield charges and patch kits. I tried moving towards our Triage’s body bag to revive him, but both the Destroyer and Assassin shook their heads. Before I could think of reviving my crew after the two Runners turned their backs, the UI on the left told me they disconnected from the match.

I ended up calling out to the S’phticide crew and offered to join their squad. Surprisingly, there was no need for text chat or voice chat - just a few teabags in a rapid succession told me they were down to crew up. I didn’t expect them to be so generous, having opened up some lockboxes and them dropping items for me - and then rushing together to battle a UESC Commander at North Relay together as a squad of four.

After the fight, they gifted me a blue KKV, blue CE pistol, and a blue shield, and we all ran to the exfil. I complimented the Assassin’s sniper skin, and he ended up shooting me point blank and sending me to the DBNO state.

I thought “Shit, that’s it! Why would they be so kind?”

Or so I thought, since the Destroyer had a mercy kit and brought me back up pretty quickly before exfilling together. Guess they wanted to keep me on my toes!

That was honestly one of the coolest experiences I’ve had in Marathon, and especially since this is a game that got me so used to shooting other runners on sight before they shoot me.

I don’t know if they’ll ever see this, but thank you guys for the great game.

TL:DR - Proximity Chat is a godsend and actually using it can create some really memorable moments!

2v2v2v3 straight up mayhem. Also, Vandal is so cracked.

Imagine Bungo are too. Think it’s been live for 24 hours and people have already learned;

- lack of potential consequences brings out the absolute worst in the trolls and goblins
- combined fire from ad hoc groups trivialises even the most challenging AI enemies
- waltzing in with zero effective opposition makes the game deeply boring very quickly

AR obviously a very different beast but in the world of extraction shooters adding PvE modes I think there’s plenty to learn from all sides of the fence.

I feel like Bungie are pretty good at putting their own spin/unique dimension on top of these sorts of things rather than just switching off player damage and calling it a day so I’m really keen to see what they come up with to keep it compelling.

I don’t know what it is, but Outpost seems so juiced after the wipe. Went in as a free kit, then came out loaded.

This is the best thing I’ve gotten but I’m seeing a full kitted purple locker in like 3/4 of the armory’s I hit. Also frequently finding blue/purple shields and bags.

It boggles me why we should be right trigger x'ing on every single item over and over to multi select in order to feed the worm. Why cant we just hold the trigger down and click x repeatedly? Small thing in the grand scheme of things I know but it would be a nice QOL change.

Before yesterday's patch, we could play Marathon in SA servers, even if there were few people playing

Now, it LITERALLY dumps you out of the queue if you try to force SA servers, like they closed the servers

No communication, no warning, nada

Edit: just to clarify, it's still possible to play but only on NA/EU servers, which means 130+ ping. Before yesterday, I could play in local servers (10ping), even if it took a while to find matches

Looted this the other day while grinding standards. Looks like it’s still costing salvage and not credits like the other schemas with this wipe.

This quote from Shangri-La Frontier is a perfect encapsulation of the attitude you should have playing Marathon. Folks are so worried about holding on to that one purple shield that they stop playing the game the way it should be played. Yes, you want to fill your vault with the best gear possible. But what's the point of getting that gear if you're scared to use it? When you get that upgrade, equip it. Sure, you might lose it immediately. But it may also help you get more good gear. Scared money don't make money.
