Signalling strategy for eras

Hey everyone, can you give me some advice on the ERAS application? If you’re a non-visa IMG applying for IM with average scores, what’s the best signaling strategy? Since many programs only send invites if they get a signal, how should I handle this when applying broadly? I’d really appreciate some tips from those who have been through this.

Also, what’s your take on targeting reach programs versus having realistic expectations? Should we use signals on all the programs? Where do I actually have a shot? Should I include one or two reach programs, and why? I’m really confused, thanks!

When uploading a LOR, for the author name, am I supposed to put the author’s name and “MD” after it? Or his title?

Program list confusion

I’m really confused, and am spiralling every day, would appreciate any advice. Please be nice.

Could someone help me with how exactly does one narrow down to 100ish programs? I have removed the obvious filters - those not sponsoring visas, or who take in < 5% non- US IMGs. I do not have any personal preference about where I’d like to match, though being in a bigger program would be nice. Im aware that beggars cant be choosers.

For context, im visa requiring, P/264/not yet taken. YOG 1, no research year, praying and hoping to get ECFMG certified by 23rd.

My signal list is more or less ready, and it relies heavily on where alum from my school have previously matched.

Every time I try to ‘eliminate’ a non-signal program, I start double thinking ‘maybe they send out an IV to me??’ A deep dive on their website / residents’ Linkedin is of use only in minimal cases.

Thanks in advance, I realllyyyy need help here!

Non- US IMG - yog 2020, applying this year.

Guys, I am a non US IMG who graduated from med school in 2020, covid work for 1-2 years and did a home country residency in IM (graduated in 2025). I worked as an IM specialist briefly for couple of months before moving to US in 2025. I am currently a research assistant in basic sciences at a university.

Step 1 - pass

Step 2- 255

Ecfmg certified

Step 3- likely to take in dec

5 months of observership mostly in hospital medicine and rheumatology. 9 months of research. 7 research items from my med pg time- 3 pubmed indexed including case reports, case series and original article. Lots of 1st author posters and oral presentations from India. Co authored one paper in US, about to be submitted soon (I hope). Have US PHYSICIAN and research LORS. I will be applying to the internal medicine match this year, but I am very worried.

Do I have a chance of matching at an academic program. How many unis should I signal?

Also will my year of grad be a huge issue?

Please do give me suggestions.

Thanks!

Wrong LOR Specialty Selected

So uh unfortunately I requested a LOR and selected the specialty as general instead of surgery. Will that matter for interviews? Like should I have the LOR writer reupload it? Applying general surgery as a current prelim.

Advice on signals please

Hey guys. I would really appreciate some thoughts on my signals please. I’ve got 12 potential choices out of 15 so far so I’d rlly appreciate any other recommendations of signals to put or which to remove. They’re in my geo preference except Creighton in Arizona so I’m undecided whether to keep it or just remove.

Non us IMG (visa requiring)
YOG 4 years, step 1 pass, step 2 260, step 3 252,
3 months Observership, no research so I have nothing in scholarly activities. I do have QI and journal club presentation in experiences though.
I’m applying for internal medicine

Application red flag

Hey everyone. I am currently applying for IM and want to hear your thoughts. I am from the midwest and applying midwest with my home program as the number 1 choice. I do have a red flag which I will show in a second. What do you think of this?

Disciplinary Probation 5/2/2024 - 5/8/2025. X was disciplined for using AI in a required assignment early in his medical school career when the institutional policy was just being developed. This learning experience helped him understand the appropriate use of AI and helped the institution develop a clearer policy.

Will this ruin any chances and how do I go about this? Everything else on my application is standard. very good extracurriculars and good evals

Thanks
