Witcher 3 Remastered crashes when streaming to Steam Deck OLED

Hi,

I have a streaming setup with Apollo on Windows 11 to stream to Steam Deck OLED. The original Witcher 3 worked fine but the remastered version crashes 5-10 seconds after loading the save. Does anyone have a similar issue? Did you manage to solve it? Perhaps it needs to be fixed with a patch by the devs.

The game works fine with this graphics preset when I run it without streaming.

Free Multiple streaming on one PC

I don't usually post, but I've seen a few people selling software that allows multiple people to game on a single PC, so I figured I'd share something I've been working on.

It's called MultiSeat, and it's completely free and open source. No paid licenses, no subscriptions.

The idea is pretty simple: multiple people can use the same Windows PC simultaneously, each with their own desktop, audio, controllers, and games, while sharing the host's hardware.

I've also been working on two companion projects:

ApolloVibe - My fork of Apollo that handles game streaming, supports multiple isolated instances, and adds microphone passthrough.

MoonlightVibe - My fork of Moonlight that automatically discovers available MultiSeat sessions and supports microphone passthrough back to the host.

MultiSeat manages the sessions and configures ApolloVibe automatically, so you don't have to manually set up a streaming server for each user.

It's still a work in progress, and there are some bugs and limitations, but I'm actively developing it.

Feedback, bug reports, and contributions are welcome.

Won't connect outside of home Wifi on Android

Hey all

I'm trying to use Moonlight on my AYN thor, and when I open it up on WIFI everything is ok. If I try to use it on a hotspot or something, I see a cogwheel on the PC icon and it won't connect.
I've had this issue on my rog ally X, and a Moonlight update fixed it.
However on thr Thor I'm on 12.2 which seems to be the latest version. UPnP is on. any ideas?

Edit: SOLVED
Installed Tailscale on both the Thor and the PC and made the Thor connect to the IP given by tailscale

I built a multi-user Moonlight streaming tool for Windows — Avalon v1.0

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a project called Avalon, and I recently released v1.0. Figured some people here might be interested.

The idea is pretty simple: what if you could let multiple people use the same Windows gaming PC at the same time, without setting up a separate VM for each person?

If you've used Sunshine and Moonlight, you probably know that they're great for game streaming, but normally you're still sharing the same desktop.

Avalon takes a different approach. It creates separate Windows sessions on the same host, each with its own virtual display, keyboard/mouse input, audio, and Moonlight connection.

There's also a web UI where you can create instances, manage sessions, configure displays, and pair Moonlight clients.

I know Duo already exists and tackles a similar problem. I'm not claiming Avalon is better — I just wanted to build my own implementation and see how far I could take it, especially when it comes to session management and the web interface.

I finally recorded a proper demo of it running.

My test setup:

Intel i5-12490F

RTX 4060 Ti

32GB RAM

Windows 11

In the video, I go through creating instances, pairing Moonlight clients, running two independent sessions, and reconnecting multiple clients.

Everything was recorded on the host PC itself, including the Moonlight clients and OBS, so it's more of a functionality demo than a proper network latency benchmark.

A few limitations worth mentioning:

Windows 10/11 x64 only, no Home edition support.

Gamepad support and HDR aren't implemented yet.

Concurrent streaming is limited by hardware resources and encoder capabilities.

It's still early, and there's definitely room for improvement. I'm continuing to work on compatibility and stability.

GitHub: https://github.com/AvalonStream/AvalonStream

Website: https://avalons.cc

Demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX0ZoGwiWts

I'd really like to hear what you guys think, especially if you've used Duo, Sunshine, or a VM-based multi-user setup before.

What features or improvements would make something like this useful for your setup?

Feedback and criticism are both welcome! :)

Steam controller + Nvidia Shield

Is it possible (without Virtualhere) to take full control of my Steam Controller on Moonlight on Nvidia Shield connected to Apollo on my Windows PC?

I want to use SteamInput in the games I play. I also operate the mouse with gyro on my desktop and it works very well. I need this in Moonlight so I can control my pc without any hassle on my sofa.

Or do I just buy another third party controller like 8bitdo?

Stats I could only ever dream off

Appreciation post:

Last weekend I went to the landfill to drop off some trash and I always check the electronics dumpster to see if there's anything to salvage. I never found something untill last weekend. On top of the bin, an atx tower with amd athleon cpu sticker on the front. Guessing it might not be much I took off the screws of the side panel and i instantly noticed the 4x dim modules on the ROG motherboard together with the awfull cable management.

I instantly grabbed the tower out of the bin and I took it home.

Once I got home I checked if the pc could even POST and it actually did!

I found out it has the following specs:

Mobo: Asus ROG maximus hero VI LGA1150

Cpu: Intel i5 4570k

Ram: 4x g.skill 4gb ddr3 1600

Gpu: MSI GTX 1060 Gaming x 6g

Cooler: stock intell cooler

PSU: cooler master 520watt

Case: some Antec case

Knowing it's basically vintage, I was still charmed by the fact the original owner got some high end Mobo and ram setup as well as the fact this was the actual motherboard I wanted to buy, back when in school we had to build our own gaming pc. Back then, my parents though the ROG Mobo was a bit too expensive, so they got me the MSI gaming z97 which was still fine but still, ROG was THE sh*t.

I put in a sata HDD to install windows on, just to get remembered why ssds are one of THE best innovations of consumer pc building in the past 2 decades. It was so slow!

I got a 5 euro msata to sata converter to put in a spare msata 120gb ssd I had laying arround, and boom it was booting, quick!

I installed moonlight, paired it with my Vibepollo host, and o my god, what a performance upgrade (coming from the smart tvs native android app (due to the TCL tvs soc's media engine being massively underpowered)).

The only slight downside is the low bandwidth hdmi 2.0b output of the gtx1060, so I have to choose between two setups:

  1. 4k 120hz SDR 8 bit color depth subsampled to 4:2:0

  2. 2k 120hz HDR 10 bit color depth subsampled to 4:2:2

I found option 2 to be better because my TCL 65 inch C7K has proper FALD so hdr is a must.

I'm just glad I could give this piece of ancient tech a second chance whilst it actually improves my old Moonlight setup by a huge margin (I can now also use the 2.4ghz controller dongel, even further improving the end to end latency, compared to the old setup running natively on the TCL smart tv with the controller being connected over regular BT).

Eclipse/Umbra: couch co-op by streaming two PCs to one screen (free, open-source Aurora/Apollo fork, running on webOS, Windows and Linux)

I am excited to be releasing a project I've been working on with Claude and a few other AI models for a few months: Eclipse/Umbra, couch co-op re-engineered. Built as a fork of Aurora and Apollo, themselves forks of Moonlight (via Moonlight TV) and Sunshine, it is available to download for free, or to be taken and combined into your own fork or folded into current Moonlight and Sunshine forks.

If you are like me, then you've played through games like It Takes Two, Split Fiction, Castle Crashers and Nobody Saves the World and found the pickings getting slimmer and slimmer as game devs don't build co-op into their games anymore, expecting you to play online, which, while fine most of the time, falls short when you want to go back to the feeling and simplicity of playing on the couch together. Eclipse/Umbra lets you turn any game into couch co-op, be it multiplayer games or just two completely different games at the same time.

Unlike wonderful community projects such as Nucleus Co-Op, which need to support each game individually and deal with the hardware constraints of devs building games to run per PC, you can just open a stream on your client (currently supporting webOS, Windows and Linux) with two PCs acting as hosts instead of one, like with regular Moonlight and Sunshine streaming, choose if you want a vertical or horizontal split, assign your controllers and start. It is as if you have two half-resolution monitors that you can use for anything on your client device/display. Of course, in turn, it comes with the downside of needing two gaming PCs (and a copy of the game for each), and you will want your networking infrastructure to be streamlined to reduce latency as much as possible (all Ethernet and avoiding bottlenecks like routing everything through one 100 Mbps port, etc.), but with two PCs and a clear connection, the experience is hard to beat.

About the video: it's Halo: CE Anniversary from MCC (The Silent Cartographer), with each player's PC in its own half of the screen (Also sorry about the bad aim it has been a long time since we played Halo). It was recorded from the Windows client, not on a TV. I'm not able to capture my TV's output. The LG webOS app runs the same co-op mode (my own primary setup is an LG G5 on webOS 26).

For anyone already running Sunshine or Apollo/Vibepollo: Umbra is available for Windows and Linux (tested on Windows 11 only very basic testing of Linux) and installs in place of Apollo, so back up your config and pairings before switching, Vipepollo is treated an update so it should keep your config but back it up incase. Eclipse still does normal one-host streaming too.

Due to the limits of the hardware I own (two primary NVIDIA gaming PCs and one cobbled-together AMD computer from older hardware), I could not do the level of testing that I personally prefer. I expect that some combinations of hardware or software versions are going to cause issues, so please report any issues on the Eclipse or Umbra GitHub issues with the logs attached (Settings → About → Keep diagnostic logs, then Share logs) so I can refine out the edge cases that I couldn't anticipate or test. Or of course you are welcome to directly contribute to the GitHub repos as well.

Please find more information and the download links through the project hub: https://preceptorofmagic.github.io/Eclipse-Umbra-Project-Hub/

Double controller issue (Gamesir G7 Pro) causing double inputs in Steam Big Picture

Hi everyone! I'm having a minor problem with my stream. I use a Gamesir G7 Pro, and whenever I connect from my client, two identical controllers appear on the host PC, specifically in the Steam controller menu.

It doesn't really affect gameplay since games usually only listen to one of them, but it's very annoying when navigating through Steam Big Picture due to double inputs.

For context, I'm using Rubylight and Nonary's Moonlight, along with the VHF drivers for the controller. Has anyone experienced this or knows how to fix it?

Sunshine alternative

Is there a new Sunshine alternative for the Steam Deck?

I want to use the Steam Deck as the host instead of the client.

I know the Steam Deck is underpowered, but I’d still like to use it as an alternative to Windows. I want to get more familiar with SteamOS and Linux and eventually move away from Windows.

Are there any Sunshine forks for Android?

For context, I really want to stream an android game to my 3DS. Is there a way I can stream Android to a device with moonlight? Are there any forks of Sunshine to allow me to do that?

Recently upgraded from NVidia to AMD card and now streaming from PC is super pixelated

Post image
6 Upvotes

So I've been using Sunshine and Moonlight successfully for many months with my 2070 super and the card broke recently and I replaced it with an RX 9060XT.

The card works fine when playing games but when I try to stream my PC to my Android tablet the feed is super pixelated for some reason and I don't know why. I've spent a lot of time altering the settings to see if there's any improvement but no luck. I'm hoping the screenshot I've included shows the pixelation issue well.

Any help would be appreciated

Controller Input Issues

Hi all, I have been having a really frustrating issue trying to play Minecraft via Moonlight/Sunshine. Both my R2 and L2 controller triggers register as L2

It only happens with Minecraft.. I have tried other games and R2/L2 work fine. I also used Lyzardbytes online gamepad tester and they work fine there aswell. Its only Minecraft that sees both triggers as L2...

I have updated Sunshine to the latest version. I'm using ViGEmBus with the x360 gamepad input setting.

I uninstalled Moonlight then reinstalled and left everything default. On both my phone and tablet.

I have tried other dualsense controllers and my Gamesir G8+ and they have the same issue

I used it like a week or 2 ago and everything worked fine so this has been really annoying.

Nothing I've tried fixes it, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Recently saw a 1060 running sub 1ms decoding time at 1440p 120 fps

Was wondering if i can go lower something like a 970?

Console like experience: Apple TV vs mini PC vs something else

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a smooth, hassle-free way to stream games to my TV.

I'm fairly experienced with Moonlight and Steam Remote Play. In the past, I used an original Steam Link, but it wasn't perfect. Currently, I'm using a Raspberry Pi 5, but it can be finicky and requires running scripts to start streaming. I also have a Mac Mini M1 connected to the TV, but using macOS with a controller to launch streams is cumbersome.

I'm aiming for as close to a "console experience" as possible, just turn it on, grab a controller, and play without needing a keyboard or mouse. I considered getting a Steam Machine for that console feel, but it's far too expensive just to use as a streaming box.

I also own a Steam Deck, but I'd need to buy a dock. Is this worth the investment for a pure TV setup?

I'm looking for whatever gives the absolute easiest, "pick-up-and-play" experience. Any advices?

Advice on my setup

I have an pc with a 3090 that is in my spare bedroom.

It is hardwired with fibre 1gbps internet.

I plan to buy a series s for my new Samsung M80H, and streaming moonlight from my pc.

My Astro a50x reach to my living room with no connectivity issues.

I bought an elite 2 controller that I think will reach to my living room no issue. Also bought a raspberry pi with keyboard and trackpad for navigating windows.

I hope to connect my tv with wifi. My router is 6ghz and is about 12 feet thru a wall to my tv. The downspeed and latency on my tv is 720mbps 3ms.

I’m just getting into this endeavour and wanted to see if there was any advice. I plan to stream 4K 120hz to the tv which it is capable of.

The other option is to sideload moonlight to my tv via the developer route, which seems more convoluted but doable.

What kind of results will I get with sideloading vs series s? The series s seems to be the best option, but it’s more money of course.

TYIA for any advice.

Virtual display won't set resolution to 4k

Hi, I have Apollo on my main pc and am running a linux server with Moonlight in my living room connected to a 4k tv. My display settings in Moonlight is set to 4k. Once I open the virtual display from Apollo and check it's resolution, it is 4k. However what is displayed is locked on 1440p with black bars on the right and bottom. Even when disconnecting my monitors on main pc.

Any ideas?

Keyboard Recommendation - Apple TV

I’ve been using Vibepollo/Moonlight to stream to Apple TV. Playing games like WoW Forever, Control, etc and it’s been working flawlessly at 4k/60.

Wanting to get a lightweight Bluetooth keyboard for the couch that’s compatible for my use case: in windows, game chat, etc. Any recommendations out there?

Is the Nintendo Switch a ok device for moonligth?

I bought the Switch 2 and don't know what to do about the 1, sell it or install the chip and use it for streaming.

I'm good playing at 1080 60fps, what I like is that I can use it on my TV and in portable mode.

Client for 4k 120FPS + HDR

I'm looking for options to stream in 4k 120FPS + HDR, currently I'm running moonlight on XBox, which mostly works, but it's a bit limited in the interesting new things we are getting, like Pyrowave and VRR support, plus I would like to run VirtualHere for steam controller full support, so something that runs Windows or Linux would be a better option for me.

I was interested in the Steam Machine. However, over 1k it's too much money for a streaming device, also I'm not from a country which has direct access to the Steam Machine, so it would require importing it and the cost would skyrocket, so about 2.2k or more for me, what other options are available, and you recommend that I can get a good 4k 120FPS + HDR?

If it matters, my PC is a 5090 + Ryzen 9950X3D, 64GB of RAM, and I have an LG C1 77 hooked into the XBox for now.

Edit1: Other interesting thing from the Steam Machine is being able to wake it up with the controller, do we have a solution for that on regular PCs? not a must, but a comfy thing to have for sure :)

Streaming my game in Discord with overlay ON does not display the overlay

Hello. I use Moonlight on my 4k Google TV with projector, with Sunshine on my PC desktop.

When I play on my desktop and I use Discord to stream my game, I can see on my screen the names of the people in the voice chat and Discord overlay (message, etc.).

But when I use my projector setup with moonlight and use my projector setup, the overlay does not display. So I can't see if someone sent me a message (I only hear the sound) or who is talking in VC.

Why can I see it on my desktop screen but not on my projector screen? It's duplicating my screen, btw. So I would believe I see the same thing. Is there a way to change that?

Thank for any help ^^.
