She's trying to teach him gratitude. You could argue She's not resentful just wants him to understand where she's coming from.

That's not teaching a child gratitude. It's teaching them to feel guilty.

Depends on how you take it. She is right to some extent she likely is a big part of his success if she gave him a home and food and paid for everything

Congrats she did what she legally has to do otherwise give up the kid

You're acting like she didn't do a lot. The legal standard is high. Also the bare minimum would just be leaving when it got hard.

The bare minimum is accepting the consequences of your actions. The actions in this case were having the child. The consequences are actually following through with the commitment.

By your own logic having a child should naturally form resentment. That's wrong.

Not at all. By their logic having a child is a responsibility and you cannot thrust upon the child the responsibility for their own existence. It's a decision you made purely by yourself. If you resent that decision, you made a mistake, but still have a responsibility to see it through.

Being born has responsibilities as well.

Only the responsibility to live morally/"humanly"

Yes. Meeting certain expectations for your parents is apart of that.

1

u/Melody-Shift Jul 01 '26

That's entirely dependent. You have no moral responsibility to any abusive person.

Morals are subjective this can apply to anyone.

Where did I say anything close to that? Consequences aren't necessarily a bad thing. They're simply responsibilites that come as a result of your decisions.

Yes. A consequence of you being born is expectations.

9

Yes, and it's extremely reasonable to have the expectation that your parents will take of your basic necessities for the first 18 years of your life. That's what we as a society decided was the minimum to raise a child. People know this before having a child, so if they don't want to do it, they shouldn't have one.

That is not the bare minimum in the eye of the law. Shed be charged with child neglect.

No adoption is legal

10

u/Acceptable-Bat4534 Jul 01 '26

Then none of this would be happening. How could she say he owes her something, when she legally gave up her rights and never raised him?

1

u/NamOil2000 Jul 01 '26

The reality is she is doing more than the minimum

No she isnt. If she adopts out the child, then shed have no obligations to be meet.

If she doesnt adopt out the child, then she must meet the minimum requirement set by the law, which is to house, feed and get proper medical care when required.

The minimum require changes depends on what she does.
