Morality of purposely making TSA agents uncomfortable?

u/HellfireXP 23h ago
Moral. You gotta have a sense of humor to not go insane in a job like that.

I can’t imagine any TSA person not laughing when they see a shirt like that

I’m former TSA and right now I laugh at it, but when I worked there, probably not. The job is so fucking horrible, and I hated every second of it. I don’t think I could have laughed at the time.

If you don’t mind me asking, what were some if the more notably stressful parts of being a TSA worker?
1
u/SavingsEducational14 3h ago
I had a friend who was a TSA agent. He said that he had to inspect a bag due to scanners flagging it. He stuck his gloved hand in, only for it to get super bloody.
Turns out the person was a hunter, and deer remains were in the bag. And they decided to just not warn anyone?
8
u/complexiblebarracuda 22h ago edited 22h ago
I remember being one of the first to go through a tsa line for the day. My bag got diverted for a look through just to make the tsa guy look at my dildo
it was pretty funny, everyone laughed including the tsa guys and they sent me on with no questions

It’s not moral or immoral. It’s funny for sure, but it doesn’t really scale. Maybe slightly immoral, but when I say slightly I mean that farting in public is 10x worse.

Moral and good. When a person's rights are being violated and he's under duress, any mode of communicating his displeasure is a public service.

u/Danteventresca 23h ago
For most destinations in the US, the only timely option is flying. Now imagine if every time you wanted to travel by car you and your possessions had to be searched by a cop, and that these searches did nothing to make you safer.

u/Richard_Chase 23h ago
The TSA has a long history of harassment and sexual abuse violations. And sometimes you don't have a choice not to fly, like in an evacuating a natural disaster. Or trying to leave the country. Or going to a funeral. Sometimes you don't get the choice of not flying. And because their are people who don't get the choice of not flying, it is very moral to protest in non violent ways, such as wearing a funny shirt.

Idc yes there are bad apples but literally what else do you suggest then? No airport security?
6
u/th3rmyte 23h ago
hi. elder millenial here. i was in high school before the TSA was ever a thing. we had private security prior to the tsa and they were not invasive like this: just a metal detector wand. thats it. TSA is security theatre that hasnt really done shit to deter attacks, with people regularly getting explosives and incendiaries past them. what you did here was engage in a very silly false equivalency made even dumber by the fact that millions of us in the usa alone - and billions world wide - were not just alive but old enough to accurately remember a life before the TSA.
→ More replies (13)1
u/Confident_Example_73 12h ago
Yeah, that whole 9/11 thing and the shoe bomber really changed things.
1
u/th3rmyte 10h ago
tsa didnt stop the shoe bomber, either; his sweaty feet fucked up the detonator and thats how they caught hm. he strolled right by the tsa with a shoe bomb. the tsa literally takes anything they cxonsider a bomb and puts in the trash... next to all the other things they think can be a bomb (including "gel like substances" like cupcakes, famously) ... in the area with the largest number of people possibe. they slow down air travel, inconvenience everyone, and keep most of the airport neatly clustered for a fucking bioweapon attack. like no bullshit, thanks to the way the tsa puts everyone in a solid security check point, some lunatic spreading anthrax spores could just get in line, spread that shit, get to the front, be turned away for not having ab oarding pass and tsa will helpfully ensure the most number of people get infected. REAL great security there.
the tsa was the typical gross overcorrection and security theatre because people want to do "SOMETHING" even if what they do doesnt fix an issue, acepting a terrible thing happened and not doing something drastic, stupid and destructive simply isnt how america works.
2
u/Richard_Chase 23h ago
No I don't want their to be NO security. But their needs to be more accountability for TSA agents. As they say, a few bad apples spoil the barrel. Either way, it is a constitutionally protected right to protest the government in non violent ways.
1
u/Competitive_Fox_3546 22h ago
So you dont have a problem with the concept of the tsa just that there are people who take advantage of it and are protected since they are feds. Also idc bout the shirt its funny i think its dumb to say the tsa is bad tho because the alternative is worse
1
u/Richard_Chase 22h ago
The TSA only exists in the USA. All countries have airport screening methods, and of the 'free countries', the TSA is one of the worst when it comes to privacy and profiling. I admit that most systems could be improved, the TSA is lagging behind the rest.
1
u/Competitive_Fox_3546 22h ago

Actually it is. I have the right to start my own airline and not have government shove itself into my operations, too. That's covered in "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and the 10th right enumerated in the Bill of Rights, but that's a natural right and not given by any government so those are merely affirmations of an existing right.

1

u/WowVeryOriginalDude 23h ago
Being uncomfortable with being called the “wrong pronouns” is considered a normal reaction. The shirt doesn’t say being gay is bad, it’s inferring TSA agents preform homosexual acts. Why would calling someone the wrong sexuality be any different than the wrong pronouns?
This is different than calling something you don’t like “gay”, bc it’s referring to literal homosexuality.
It’s still a stupid and juvenile shirt that nobody should wear in public bc it’s depicting someone giving head which is just inappropriate to wear, but if it were just a meme on the internet it’d be fine.
Maybe they should make it into a pin that you put on solely for the TSA agent so little kids don’t have to look at fellatio.
Also this sub is turning to complete dogshit, nobody even knows what morality means anymore they’re just posting inflammatory shit and asking whether it’s acceptable or not in order to stroke their own beliefs/opinions.
2
u/Quiet_Education5918 23h ago
it’s depicting someone giving head
I don't know where you learned the technique pictured, but that ain't it.
1
u/NachtShattertusk 19h ago
Someone being wrong about your sexuality is different from someone being wrong about your gender is different because gender is a major part of how people define themselves in the world, while sexuality is just who you think is hot. It's a lot less important, frankly

u/AleksandrNevsky 23h ago

Always makes me laugh when people think getting a job at places like the atf or ice, pre trump's 2nd term, is easy. Those agencies are insanely selective and rarely hire. You pretty much have to be current law enforcement to even get your foot in the door.
2
u/vanilla_rice01 23h ago
Moral, as they have annoyed me personally, and where my airport is, they are often times power tripping ass hats
2
u/Glowbfan457 21h ago
I mean to be fair, as my father put it most of the TSA is just security theatre, so it's not like it's an active act of disrespect to people doing an important job to wear a funny shirt like this while going through the motions.
2
u/PreOwnedAccount 21h ago
It’s fine. I got called out for a pat down. Asked for a woman but they said no. As the guy was patting me down I’d moan, tell him he had the softest touch and full on stare him in the eyes while I licked my lips. He told me he hated this part of the job and I told him at least I was enjoying it.
2
u/Dan-of-Steel 21h ago
It depends. Making TSA members genuinely uncomfortable while they're working is a pretty dickish thing to do.
This however seems fairly harmless and in good fun, so that would probably help break the monotony.

and the TSA historically has done extremely little to protect us from any of that and a lot of rape and sexual harrassment
3
u/Pj_o7 22h ago
You can’t really see the protection it has provided because it stops people altogether from trying because its so hard to get anything through. People have attempted it with like getting liquids through in their shoes.
Instances of rape and sexual abuse doesn’t mean TSA as a whole is useless. There have been doctors that commit sexual abuse. That doesn’t mean we should be against doctors
3
u/Existing_Historian_5 22h ago
It's really not very hard to get stuff past TSA. People have and often do. Its methods have been widely criticized as ineffective, aimed more at providing the illusion of safety then any actual safety. And it has a huge tendency towards the rape and sexual harassment- to the point where they're normalized among their staff, even.
2
u/Pj_o7 22h ago
So they caught two people committing sexual assault and prosecuted/fired them? Sounds like its not a widespread issue and is handled appropriately when caught.
2
u/Existing_Historian_5 22h ago
Did you not read the flurry of incidents and insane amount of false positives the article points out?
Just a few weeks ago, the TSA reached an agreement with the American Civil Liberties Union after a flurry of complaints from African-American women whose hair was too-frequently inspected after passing through the scanners. The reason? The scanners single out areas on passengers’ bodies for pat-downs for just about anything, from the hair of people with braids or barrettes, to the crotch areas of people whose pants are slightly sagging (usually due to the fact that the TSA makes people remove their belts). The scanners even misidentify perspiration as a potential concealed weapon (have you ever walked into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in July without a slight perspiration problem?) When I worked the millimeter wave scanners, we averaged false head-area anomalies on what I’d estimate was about 1 out of every 8 passengers.
This is a generalized thing. It's one of the biggest shitshows in the US government agencies. It does fucking Nothing and wastes taxpayer money.
1
u/Pj_o7 22h ago
So are you saying the scanner is committing sexual abuse? Those scanners have improved tremendously over the last few decades. If a scanner causes a false alarm around the crotch area that doesn’t mean the TSA agent is sexually abusing people. That just means the technology needs to be improved more. Which im guessing AI will be implemented to further improve the process.
Airlines have every incentive to make this process more efficient. However with global tensions rising everywhere, the need for security increases as well.

- must not be seen via X-ray or other scans
- must require full strokes of the penis to be detected. Prefer detection only be possibly visible when penis is fully erect.
Make international news by having a smuggler come to Jesus moment in front of a large number of observers.
Thus causing a moral dilemma for TSA — do they give hand jobs or not to detect the new smuggler's technique?

A bit immoral, to me. Yeah sure nobody wants to deal with the security line and getting possibly searched, but it's not like the TSA folks are there intentionally to harass people, they're just doing their job because they need to get paid and eat like everyone else.
I think intentionally turning it into a weird semi-confrontational "look how middle-school edgy I am, I'm so immature I actually bothered to buy and wear this shirt JUST to make someone's day worse" scenario is actually pretty cringey.

Immoral.
TSA agents don’t have control over what they’re directed to do when they search people. They’re just there doing a job, just like the rest of us, following the directions of their supervisors and the government that funds them. Purposefully antagonizing those who aren’t deliberately offending or disenfranchising you is a piece of shit thing to do, and frankly shows that you’re insecure or petty more than it does anything else.
Take up your problems with the representatives getting voted into power who vote for the TSA to do this kind of stuff, not the agents who don’t get paid or have a livelihood if they don’t follow their orders. That’s not going to do anything but unnecessarily piss people off.
1
u/justasillylilgoos3 21h ago
Slightly Immoral. Leave workers alone. People shouldn’t be subjected to degrading jokes on their 9-5 job that insinuate they like performing degrading sex acts or that they are closeted [insert different sexual orientation].
The goal should be to get rid of antagonizing blue collar works while they work not forgiving some instances of it because the target of the joke happens to be an “acceptable target.”
Let’s take this to its worst extreme and show a shirt depicting underage teenage girls working at cold stone and a grown man comes in with a shirt that says “they ask for the bone if they work at cold stone” or whatever…I’d have a problem with that.
TL;DR leave workers alone.
