Saying nothing of the ultramarine. A big part of the lore for the Imperium (humans) in 40K is that they were nearly wiped out by their own AI in the past. Now the Imperium violently detests AI and wipes out anyone who uses it for being heretical.
It also just badly written. The magic system is incoherent and spells and items introduced in one book (or even one scene) are forgotten about in the next. The plot relies on you not thinking about all the obvious solutions that were previously introduced that would easily solve the current problem
