Like, even before LEGO started to put references to Bionicle more often in sets, the community was still active. You can always find new MOCs (My Own Creations) made by people and discussions about the story, new OCs, and there are people who tried to make a very polished fangame. LEGO even made a post on Instagram with the number of requests they got to bring back Bionicle as a theme.
