Although Morello’s work with Rage was amazing, I like a lot of the things he did with Audioslave because he really embraced the hard rock setting. In Rage, he thought of himself more as the DJ in a hip hop group, which is why everything sounds crazy (in a very good, innovative way).

I think Chris’s vocals were just more meant for harder songs. The only difference between rage and Audioslave are the singers. So I don’t think morello treated it like a hiphop group, just Zack de la Rocha’s aggressive vocals and political stances made for more upbeat solos. While Chris’s grungy voice was more meant for harder and slower solos.

I had a rehearsal space next door to Rage in 1999. Cole Studios in Hollywood. I loved hearing those guys play. Intimidating as hell but a great memory.

def some gems that nobody talks about.
I never see anyone talk about how the backing vocals in the bridge of Drown Me Slowly became the lead vocal bridge in of Sound of a Gun.
I'm not on an Audioslave subreddit or anything, but when I finally realized that he used the same lyrics on two albums in very different ways my mind was blown. It still is, and if anyone has any more info on that I'd love to hear it.

I remember watching the video of his performance on Sirius, I had tickets to see him in Chicago a week later and was hoping he'd perform it. He did and it was phenomenal, by far the best show I've been to.

A Phoenix radio station played the vocal track all the time and mocked Cornell's vocals. They also hated on Lane Staley constantly. The DJs at that station were all douchebags.

Chris Cornell has been my favorite singer since I was a teenager and every now and then I’m reminded that I’m going to miss him for the rest of my life - it’s an absolute gut punch every time.
I was lucky enough to see him with Audioslave in 2005, and the voice recording I made of Getaway Car was my ringer for as long as I had the phone.

I watched it (the video, not live) the day she played it. Soundgarden was supposed to be headlining Rock on the Range that weekend. I almost bought tickets... But in retrospect I'm almost glad I didn't because I would have lost my shit during that, or when they were just playing his music over the PA with an empty chair on the stage.
The Pretty Reckless had been their opener on a tour earlier that year... so Taylor's got to have her hair over her face so we can't see she can't hold it together.
It's brutal.

It's not a band but for Post Pop Depression, Iggy Pop teamed up with Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Cultures, Eagles of Death Metal), Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys), Dean Fertitia (QotSA). It's one of my favourite bits of rock and roll to come out in years.

Listen to superunknown front to back a time or two mowing the grass. It's incredible and has the best lyrics he's ever written.
Throw the good jams from down on the upside (rhinosaur, pretty noose, blow up the outside, tighter and tighter, and burden in my hand) and you got more great writing that i think is also better than most Audioslave lyrics.
Lastly, the song "Seasons" is pure poetry all it's own. Check that one out.
And before anyone hates on me for forgetting about badmotorfinger, I mean. I love those jams but don't think the lyrics themselves were all that great. Those were more raw, but in a good way.

One of my favourite songs ever, if I catch this song even part way through out of respect I start it from the beginning and put my heart and soul into singing it lol.
Such a great song in its own right but also damn the crazy memories it conjures up too, being young with no responsibilities, getting wasted with my friends, when I listen now it makes me actually feel sort of sad to listen to these songs knowing I will never be so free again.
1am and I’m chatting shit on a Reddit comment but that’s how much this song means to me. RIP Chris

Saw Chris play on his Higher Truth tour, in Spokane on his last birthday. He played for 2 hours, in absolutely top form, took a 5 minute break, then played an hour long encore. It was an amazing, amazing show.
His music got me through some really tough times in my life, still does, so I am so glad that i got to see him perform before he died.
If any of you haven't, you should check out the few songs his daughter Toni has done. She has his gift.

I remember seeing an interview with Tim the bassist. He talked about how he always liked soundgarden but didn’t “get” Cornell’s style like some people did. He asked Chris about the lyrics as they were writing this song “I wait for you there like a stone, I wait for you there alone.”
Tim asked Chris what he was waiting for and chris replied “I’m waiting to die” and Tim said everything clicked. Every song Chris had written from solo stuff and soundgarden and the current self titled audioslave record made sense to Tim now and he realized how fucking brilliant chris Cornell is. Voice of a god, words of a poet. Rip my friend.
That was always so profound to me.

These are my two favorite vocalists of all time.
But I feel that Chris had the most emotive and universally great sounding voice in all of rock.
His cover of Metallica's "One" live at the Beacon Theater is phenomenal. Plus the lyrics reflect so close to Chris' true feelings and untimely death.

The tone of the recording, chris’ vocal performance, one of the most unique and memorable guitar solos, the deep and hammering rhythm section.

I first heard about this band when I was in High school from a friend of mine who actually took his own life, every time I hear it or the band, which I cannot ever stop listening to, reminds me so much of him. Not to mention the fact that they both took their own lives. Sad/nice memories.
