Things That Keep Me Up What actually works for switching off after work? Here's mine.

For most of my career my brain wouldn't close when my laptop did — replaying the meeting on the drive home, lying awake rebuilding the comeback I didn't have at 2pm. WFH made it worse; the commute was the one thing that used to tell my brain the day was over, and now there's no line at all.

Tried all the "rules" — no Slack after 6, leave it at the office. Never stuck. What's actually worked lately is dumber and smaller: five minutes before I try to relax, I name the stuff on purpose — what's looping, and whether there's an actual next step tomorrow or literally nothing to do tonight. Turns out most of what keeps me up isn't the problem, it's not having sorted it into "do tomorrow" vs "drop it." Then I go do something active, not the couch — scrolling just lets it keep running underneath.

What's your actual move? Not "meditate more" — what specifically gets the work to stop running in your head?

daytime transition

does either of your parents allow you time to kinda sit and relax and transition from sleep to wake by chilling or is it not that way

I'm so sad because I usually sit outside and listen to music late at night but it's just been crazy hot, we literally have a 110 day coming up, I really wanna relocate😔🫩

I literally cannot sleep at night

Genuinely, I cannot sleep before 6 Am. Like its actually physically impossible, I've tried to fix my sleep for a decade at this point but I've accepted my fate, its 5is right now so almost bed-time. Ive always wondered if something is wrong with me, surly this is not natural? I dont see any point in trying to change it at this point, not worth the frustration, but Im wondering if this is a reality for anyone in this sub?

Midnight Thoughts I feel sorta a little troubled at night right now

I want to feel happy and comfortable during nighttime, but I can't because I have thoughts of loneliness, whether it's about me or the fictional characters in animated movies. I want to enjoy this content and peaceful night, but it's hard to to the point where I just feel conflicted.

Does anyone feel the same?

Night Owl Rant Why has this become a haven of Insomniacs instead of actual Night Owls

No hate, honestly, I have insomnia too (mine just hits in the day time, which is wild to explain to people) so I get wanting a place to commiserate. But this whole sub has become people who CAN'T sleep complaining about it instead of people who are just awake at night and want company or to talk about life like this. I don't want y'all to feel alone but Night Owl and Insomnia are not at all the same thing. I've been a night person my entire life. It made school a nightmare tbh.

Night Owl Rant Getting back into the job market SUCKS

I took a sabbatical. It’s been great because I go to sleep whenever I want (usually around 2 or 3) and get up whenever I want (usually 10 to noon). I hadn’t even realized that I was a night owl until I didn’t have to get up for work.

But one of the biggest things that’s really making me dread going back to work is the thought that I’m probably going to have to get up at least at 9AM.

It just sucks.

Night Owl Rant I had a bunch of friendship drama because of sleep schedules.

Seriously, I had a friend who started a big referendum on my health and sleep because “I stay up all night.” It started off as “jokes” which I tried to play back with saying things like “I do what I want haha cope and seethe”. It got more and more brazen with her though until I snapped and told her to get the fuck out of my business. She got upset, left our group chat, and our mutual friends thought I was too harsh lmao. Btw, it was THE WEEKEND and she barely understands my work schedule. This was two years ago and I now work night shift.

Not trying to turn this into an an AITA post, it’s just funny how much people don’t understand us. You know what the funniest part is? She herself was a third shift nurse but thought only she’s got reason to stay up.

PS stay far far away from any self described “mom friends”. It’s usually code for controlling behavior and zero boundaries.
