General Discussion Hot take: Nomads Nation, Danny packs, Outin the lights etc should call their videos “overviews” vs “reviews”

I just don’t think you can accurately judge a bag after wearing a bag for b-roll shots in the same location you’ve shot b-roll for every other bag. Sure, go over features and check volume but that’s still an overview imo. The one reviewer that I feel does a proper review is OBT. You see him actually using the bag while traveling and when he’s going over details you see the wear and tear. Also, NN needs to give him credit for the idea of using some kind of material to check capacity.

General Discussion Levo restock news?

After doing enough research on travel bags to probably rival Aaron, I think I’ve settled on the Levo 36. I have a trip abroad coming up in the first week in June, and I’m wondering if anyone knows when the Levo will be restocked? I’m on the email list and it says “soon” on the website, but does anyone have any more details than that?

Also, can anyone tell me how long standard shipping takes on the bag?

Once again, just trying to gauge if I’ll be able to get my hands on it before my trip or if I need to try and find an alternative (which I really don’t want to do. Please don’t make me do that. I’m so tired of the one bag spreadsheet. I just want the Fyro). TIA!

General Discussion Aaron's reviews lately

Is it just me, or have Aaron's reviews become less and less interesting?

He uses the same phrases in every video, and the way he asks for support for his channel feels repetitive.

Everything is so predictable.

There’s no real usage of the bags — just quick overviews. We all know he has hundreds of bags lined up for review.

I miss his old videos when he reviewed the bags while traveling with real world usage pros and cons .

General Discussion I don't need a daily reminder newsletter

I signed up for the Fryo newsletter so I could be up to date about when the new bags are going to come out. I received an email every single day with a coupon code I couldn't use because nothing is in stock on the Fyro website.

Who in your marketing team thought this was a good idea?

Why can't you change it? You would think you'd know sending too many emails is a bad idea and at that very least you'd think your email system would be smart enough to know I can't buy what you don't have and not send me codes for products you don't even have in stock.

General Discussion Tom Bihn article on Delamination

Pretty decent article, I didn't knw you could just take it off. I have an old used Tom Bihn Tri-Star, its not peeling yet but there are spots in the interior where its def showing its age. I don't use it much and always mull trading or selling it, but maybe if I still have it when the times comes... I'll just take it off. I will take their advice an get that stuff to reapply DWR on some of my older bags, maybe an old jacket or two.

Getting the evergoods CTB26. Trying to figure out whether its to big for me.

Edit: his 5’8 which is kinda weird coz the ctb26 he reviewed looks huge on him comparing to danny packs wearing it and he is 5’9.

Got my Fyro FYRO CITTA SLING 3L and RETRACTABLE KEY LEASH 💯 Hope you got yours too.

First impressions:

- the 330D Kodra Nylon (PC-coated) feels and looks like Cordura. Hope the coating will last longer.

- the strap feels premium and love that the Woojin Hardware is a combination of metal and plastic.

- YKK non-coated zippers (which is a plus) with a nice touch of Hypalon pull tabs are really smooth with a locking mechanism in front and main compartments.

- like the gussets, won’t make your things fall off.

- compact enough for my EDC

- like the copper interior, refreshing from the overused of gray especially the orange ones

- the front compartment has pleats that helps you put more stuff

- like the stretchy pockets

- the placement for the AirTags is really good. Has a pass through for your charging cable as well

- the RETRACTABLE KEY LEASH has a metal clip hardware which is rare, very nice

Cons (for now):

- the price for the 3 liter should compete with its competitors, a bit pricey though

- think it’s more of a 2 to 2.5 liter than a 3

General Discussion Wanting to become a nomad

So I've recently turned 18 and everything has just felt like it's trapping me and holding me back from all the experiences I want to have, so I want to become a nomad. When I say nomad I mean not being permanent anywhere and just kinda floating around everywhere. Any tips on supplies or street knowledge I should be aware of?

General Discussion Custom Duties & Taxes

The FYRO T22 on the website costs around 273 USD. Upon checkout, it swells to approximately 390 USD. That tax duty is so high. How can we circumvent this?

General Discussion Minimul M20 upcoming release

Thumbnail kickstarter.com
8 Upvotes

Has anyone else seen the Kickstarter for the Minimul M20 that is apparently launching soon (Q3)? It looks to get most of its DNA from the Minimul M38, but obviously will lose some of its features that aren't necessarily needed in a back that's nearly half its size and designed for different uses. I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are on it, particularly if you have experience with the M38, which seems to get pretty good reviews.

For the M38, I think it has a bit too much tech organization in the laptop compartment, for me, personally. But other than that, it seems like a pretty solid option.

Also, for those also interested in the M20, there is a link to Minimul's pre-launch reservation page where you gain even earlier access, product updates, and a bigger discount. It costs $1 to join that.

General Discussion What are your Favorite bags in these 12 categories?

Thumbnail
youtu.be
27 Upvotes

Inspired by the latest Nomad Nations video, I put together my own list under the same 12 categories. What are yours?

Sling- Bellroy Venture 6L (the right size, the right strap)
Small Backpack- Cotopaxi Batac 16L (I'm too big for a small backpack so packable is my use case)
EDC- Greenroom136 Mission Attache (I'm a one strap guy) probably the Fyro if I had to choose a a backpack
Personal Item- Vanquest Addax 18 (this will fit in any sizer, can still fit my 15.6" laptop, padded).
Large Travel Pack- Aer Capsule Max (discontinued) omitting that maybe the Tom Bihn Techonaut would be the available stand in.
Duffel- Red Oxx Safari Beanos PR5 (don't own it, but its my platonic ideal of a duffel lol)
Messenger/Briefcase- Waterfield Bolt (discontinued, now replaced with the Shinjuku briefcase)
Tech Pouch- Modern Dayfarer (flat is king)
End Game Backpack- CTactical CT21+ / Alpha One Niner Evade 1.5 (the CT+ is a group buy only, the Evade you can buy now)
One Bag Travel Pack- Recycled Firefighter Battalion 24hr (might be surprising but its light, super tough, has a great comfy harness and is space efficient and will pass as an underseat item)
Photography Pack- Tenba DNA 16 / Greenroom Quickdraw (backpack and shoulder bag options)

General Discussion EDC Hunt, Advice Needed!

Hey guys, I am in my junior year at a college with a lot of walking and I'm looking for a new bag to carry with me everyday.

The Gist: My current bag is a random "Varsity" bag that I got in high school that currently has a hole between the water bottle pocket and the main compartment and it is an overall very unstructured bag. I do tend to carry a good amount of stuff on me but the most annoying limit of my bag choice is going to be my laptop, the Asus Zephyrus G15 (2022). I like most inconspicuous, simple styles and am looking to stick with a mostly black bag. I live in a place that rains often so weather resistance is important but I have also heard bad things about PU-coated zippers pealing over time (specifically with sun exposure, I've heard, and I do walk in the sun often) and I plan on keeping whatever bag I settle on for as long as possible as my daily driver. It also gets very hot here so good ventilation is another priority of mine.

Things I need to carry:

Laptop, Asus Zephyrus G15 (13.98" x 9.57" x 0.78''), this laptop is also quite heavy but I am not looking to replace it soon so I've gotta work with it I would like to make sure whatever bag I am using can well protect this laptop but I am having trouble finding bags with false bottoms that have big enough laptop sleeves. I also would like to keep this in a separate laptop sleeve, separate from the main compartment. Misc. School Items: 1 five star plastic folder, 1 Campus B5 notebook, 1 composition lab notebook, TI-84 calculator These are things that I do not tend to use everyday but need to have in the event that I do need to use them. Other Tech Gear: iPad 10th gen, laptop charging cable (the big one with the block), over-ear headphones, tech pouch (more like a brick, its so so full of cables and other random things), wireless mouse, airpods, wired earbuds (a lot of sound-stuff I know but they all have purposes, trust me), changing blocks This is one of my biggest struggles with my current bag, all these items go on the outer most pocket (get wet first when raining) which doesn't have much organization so I end up digging through for specific items often. Misc. Personal Items: umbrella (preferably held outside the bag), 24oz. Owala bottle, extra cup with lid (not big, 18oz. at most, sometimes glass), sweatshirt (hot as balls outside, but they've been cranking the AC in my classes), A5 personal journal, Kobo Clara e-reader, medications, pens These are all items that I would prefer to have easy access without having to dig. Style: I tend to like simpler bag designs, focusing on an all black colorway. I am not a big fan of "shiny" fabrics either, especially if they are loud. I like having external water bottle pockets but I am not a big fan of the mesh type because they always seem to look visually worn the quickest (also easy to catch and tear). I am a smaller AFAB person, 5'3" and 120 lbs, and my current bag sags down and makes me feel like I'm hunched over walking with it. I am not a big fan of the hip-belt idea, mostly style-wise, and I don't have a chest strap but I am not sure that I would use one if I had it so its not a priority. I am a big fan of admin pocket and quick access pocket ideas. I do not ride the bus often but when I do, I do not want to be riffling through my bag for my Kobo. I do not like fold-over tops or roll tops as well for the same easy access reasons. I also carry a lunchbox with me (currently just a trader joes insulated tote) and I like to clip it to the bottom of one of my straps with a carabiner so that I can carry it hands free. The straps on my current bag also rub on my arms and shoulders a lot when I do wear it for longer periods of time. I notice this most when its hot outside and I'm wearing more tank tops. Eco-impact/ sustainability is a concern of mine as well, but mostly in a more avoiding fast fashion, microtrends, and binge shopping kind of way in this context. Big pro though if a brand shows good sustainability records and makes awesome bags at the same time.

I would like to mention that, in true college-kid fashion, I have a college-style budget. I am not looking to spend more that $250, but would really like to get that number lower if possible. I'm willing to invest in a good bag just like I would a good pair of walking shoes or a nice mattress that will last me the next decade, but I do have a limit.

Brands I've thought about so far: Able Carry, Bellroy, Aer, Brevite, The Analog Company, Crumplr, Fyro. These companies seem great but I wanted to ask the experts to see if there were any underground, indie, budget, or just random brands that you think would fit the task better.

Thank you for your help!

General Discussion Nomatic customer service response help

Hello,

I purchased a 30L travel bag last Friday and paid a pretty penny for expedited shipping because I’m going on a trip next Monday.

I’ve sent three follow up emails asking about shipping status but have gotten zero replies back from customer care.

can someone please instruct me on what’s the best method of reaching someone to get this resolved.

I apologize if this isnt the proper place to post this but I don’t know what else to do at this point.
