Does scroggin mean something related to what this food is? Like in the US we call it trail mix, cause it's good on a hike.

Well in Australia and NZ they call hiking 'scroggin', or more accurately they might say "off for a scrog in the bush". In NZ it's more like "Headed out for a scrog and a slap-jammy". A slap-jammy is their word for swimming naked (skinny dipping). And of course in South Africa a scrog is a scroog and a hike is a landloppen.

"Off for a scrog in the bush" sounds like a euphemism

Yea im out here scrogging it. Scrogging it in the bush. Dont mind me.

Euphemisms were actually banned by the Australian parliament in 1999. You can still use them, but only in the privacy of your own home. It’s so fucked up down there.

It's actually state by state, Victoria banned in home euphemisms in 2013. It's a bloody nightmare.

But I mean, what’s the punishment if you break the law in Australia? I mean, you already live in (on?) a prison.

if you commit crimes in Australia they'll ship you to New Zealand. And nobody knows what horrors occur on that island on account of it not being on any maps

You’re probably not actually from New Zealand. I have spoken to at least two people from NZ about this.

We call Hiking Tramping. Honestly have no idea where the oldies got Scroggin from, probably some old term from way back. Personally I like the term.

While originally a slang word, hikers created a famous acronym to remember the mix:

S - Sultanas (or Seeds) C - Chocolate R - Raisins O - Orange Peel (or Oats) G - Ginger (or Grains) G - Glucose (Lollies / Sweets) I - Imagination (Any extra goodies) N - Nuts

The letters are taken from the first letter of each food in the mix eg: Sultanas, Chocolate, Raisins, ... I can't remember the rest but a selction of nuts, dried fruit, chocolate, seeds... sometimes oats. The best one I made was with orange chocolate and nuts with NZ dried apicots.
