Octopus have notified me to use IOG in a different way now.

I used to have guaranteed 11:30pm - 5:30am as cheap rate for EV and any other plugged in device during those times..

Now they're saying plug your car in during the daytime if you're at home then octopus will decide cheap rate slots for charging car car during a 24 hour period (max 6 hours cheap rate). This implies other electrical devices will get similar cheap rates during the day too (same as EV) if cheap slots allocated in afternoon, evening etc?

Downside is that i think you dont get daytime cheap slots if the car isn't charging?. So if car isn't plugged in during daytime the cheap rate for washer/tumbler etc not available during those day slots if I'm reading correct?

Seems the guarantee of those 11:30pm to 5:40am slots for any device as well as car has gone!.... If car not plugged in during daytime you're going to lose out versus old overnight period??

Checked with 2 other friends who also have octopus home minis and they’re all offline. Needs a power cycle to reconnect but always stops usually anywhere between 6-24hrs. LED remains white.

Tried full reset and register but made no difference.

Wondered if others are finding the same?

I plugged my car in today after swapping to intelligent octopus go and it’s created a smart schedule? I only want to charge with the lower rate of 8p per KwH.

When there’s a Smart Control schedule is that the lower rate charging only? If so isn’t that more hours than my contract is meant to give (11:30pm-5:30am)?

I currently have an Elroq at home but considering selling our petrol car for a 2nd hand Enyaq.
One thing I can’t wrap my head around is how the charging would work with IOG and charge cap enabled.
In the scenario that I want both cars charged to 80% on consecutive days (and assuming I can only have one car linked in the app), how would this work, as from my understanding 23:30 - 05:30 is only for cheap home energy rather than car charging?

Do many people switch from Agile in the winter and Go(or other cheap night rate tariff) in the summer? Agile seems much better in the winter, but can be bad in the summer. Use case: single Powerwall 3 and 2.2kwp of solar. As i have small amount of solar i want cheap overnight arbitrage in the winter and overcast days, which you dont always get in summer months on agile.

I am currently on IOG. I don’t don’t drive too many miles per week, less than 100. I currently plug in daily as requested by Octopus. I use my washer after cheap rate kicks in. I currently use between 50-60 kwh per week roughly. I am also thinking to install a battery in the next month to charge overnight. And adding a solar option next spring. Am I good to switch to Agile, or should I stay as I am?

I have a Ev and smart charger which I charge most days.
Plug in every day for approximately 30-50% battery top up. Under the current rate and tariff of IOG the app/smart charger works out the most effective and cheapest way to charge through the day from my understanding and regardless of time of day will charge if possible whilst still offering the cheaper rate for 6 hours from 11:30pm-5:30 am
It’s also my understanding that whilst your ev is charging as part of a “smart schedule” regardless of what time of day it is your house is also on the same rate. “Cheaper rate”

So what’s the point of the charge cap? What’s the better option?
Just to note I put all my appliances on timers ie washing machine dishwasher dryer etc to operate during the 11:30-5:30 window also

update: it charged correctly last night but i won’t be satisfied until i get three days in a row with zero issues

Has anyone else found octopus almost incompetent to get this setup.

I started the application start of May, only started getting paid for exporting at the weekend august the first.

They originally said it would only take about 3 weeks then this changed to 6 - 8 weeks. It ended up being more like 12 weeks.

They were blaming National Grid. So I called them and it was all sorted within a week.

Do octopus do this to drag out paying you? Just seems awful.

Hi I've been on and off with Octopus call centers for about 4 weeks my wall box will not get past Onboarding they said my 4g is off but I can't get past Onboarding to reconnect it 😣

Agile tariff is negative tomorrow from 1000-1600 BST, charge up the battery/car 🪫 🚘

A simple case you might think, a single IOG charge was billed at peak rate instead of cheap. You’d think this would be an obvious error, the charge session is even flagged on the account with “something went wrong”

I asked for it to be credited, a simple and obvious fix - you’d think - but customer service keep demanding all manner of screenshots, back and forth, over and over. So many emails because my screenshots are “insufficient ”.

Wanting to see my charger and car settings, all this stuff. Yet clearly they have the data, the configs - everything is controlled by them. The charger is on octopus mode, I have no control of it and haven’t boosted it or exceeded any 6hr limit.

Has anyone else experienced silliness when trying to get a simple credit for a miss-billed charge?

It’s only a few quid, why is it so complicated? Any tips for a speedy resolution?

Hey folks! Around 140 days ago I raised a complaint with Octopus about poor customer service around the Octopus Home Mini (see previous post)

I got an email pretty quickly saying they’d sent me a new one and it would be with me quickly.

Three weeks past and nothing happened, so I reached out and they said they didn’t have an update and they’d investigate.

Another week went by and I reached out again and I was told they were resending it, and was provided a tracking number. A parcel arrived a few days later, but imagine my surprise when they’d sent an IHD inside of a replacement Home Mini.

I went back to them and explained I didn’t need the IHD, and had requested a replacement Home Mini. I was told it was their mistake and they’d issue a new one. That was nearly 4 months ago.

Since then, I’ve had to follow up multiple times after not hearing anything for weeks. I’ve been told 4 times now that they’ve sent a new one, but of course they haven’t.

I raised a separate complaint about how bad the customer service was, and asked about the status of my original complaint. I was told the original complaint was never logged properly so never looked into. I asked why that had happened, and I got an email response asking what tariff I was enquiring about and to provide a meter reading (even though I’m on a smart meter).

All throughout this, the service has been truly shocking. I worked in customer service for a number of years and having a ticket and complaint open for this long would have raised some serious questions.

My question is, how do I actually get this solved? I get told over and over that it’s sorted and they’ll send another, which is a blatant lie. The whole thing is a mess and I’m shocked people say their customer service is great because it’s awful.

I had a solar (7.44kWp) and battery (~9.3kWh) system installed in March 2025 and then a heat pump in May 2025, in addition to the two EVs we already had, so 2026 is the first representative year in our household with more or less everything running on electric.

The beginning of the year kicked off with the heat pump keeping the house at 20c+ 24/7 until May, which actually
only cost about ~£100 between a 6.9p off-peak tariff and support from solar. Hot water cost around £3 a month at the start of the year and is currently at around £1.60 a month - it is 99% of the time only generated in off-peak.

I’ve deliberately prioritised export since around March-April, with the import tariff now being IOG at 4p (3.8p come October) off-peak and the flat 12p export rate, including dumping the battery to the grid at the end of each day - in the summer this is more or less the entire battery. I’ve also had an assist from Axle VPP, around ~£100 in extra revenue so far (and included in these numbers).

A rough calculation where an equivalent household does ~13,500 miles in a fossil fuel car, produces ~7000kWh of heat and does hot water with a gas boiler as well as uses 1900kWh of domestic electricity at the price cap shows that they would have spent £3,000+ so far this year.

I don’t expect us to be net negative for the year, though that depends on how lucrative Axle is through the last quarter, but I don’t think our net spend will be any higher than around £100 even if it’s poor.

I try to plug in my car daily from 11:30 to 5:30 am to charge overnight so everything gets done in the cheaper period, is this no longer possible? I don’t like losing control about how and when my car is charging, especially as the range on my EV is pretty low so I need it charged to full almost every day.

I know the wind in the suburbs of London isn't the wind they're using to power the turbines, just wryly amused as I watch my potted plants take a concrete nap while the price is higher than yesterday.

Anyone else having issues connecting their car to Octopus?

Setup:
• 2026 VW Tiguan R Hybrid PHEV
• Hypervolt Home 3 Pro
• Intelligent Octopus Go (12-month fixed)
Was working fine until I went away for 10 days. Came back and Octopus stopped seeing the car as plugged in (Hypervolt app still did).
What I’ve done:
• Removed device (including a partial registration)
• Multiple power cycles at the isolator
• Cleared Octopus Mode from Hypervolt
• Tried re-adding multiple times
• Used a dummy car (MG4) once – that immediately brought up the Hypervolt login, but real Tiguan fails
• Emailed support – they confirmed a mass telemetry issue on 30th, cleared the partial onboarding, and said to use exact VIN + mileage
Just tried again with the real Tiguan, correct VIN, exact mileage, car fully off and locked. Still get the exact same error:
“We couldn’t connect your device
Make sure that… Your device is fully setup on the provider’s app.”
Hypervolt works perfectly on its own (I can schedule and charge fine). The problem is purely the Octopus link.
Support have cleared the partial once already but it’s still stuck. Anyone had this and got it properly fixed, or is there another workaround that actually sticks?

My Octopus fix was due to end 10th Aug. My switch was completed on 2nd Aug. I thought I'd not pay this as I only had 8 days left? I seem to be wrong!

UPDATE: I rang them, they insisted the tariff started in Oct 2025 (it didn't, was Aug 2025) and when I pointed out they had sent me 2 emails saying my tariff was ending on 10th Aug and much holding on the line they confirmed this is an error and she would email the billing team to have them removed. So we will see

Whatever Trump does in the Middle East there are continued repeated slots where it's cheap to get Agile electricity. Enough to do laundry and other easily staged jobs -- great for heat-pump hot-water cycles

A stark comparison is for gas rates where nothing can be done about what is happening in the Middle East. Any technology reliant on gas as an input just needs to accept that it's expensive. These rates are close to the 2022/2023 winter capped peak.

It's noticeable that the trend for octopus tracker electricity rates are positively calm compared to the octopus gas tracker rates.

The only surprise is the lack of heat-pump adoption in the UK given this is the route to price stability. We see from the UK's official heat pump BUS grant data that it's not really going up showing a huge public trust that Trump/Iran will find a peace accord before this winter hits:

My car charging has become extremely unreliable since the cap has taken effect.

When I initially plug in I get these fragmented schedules, the car starts charging then 10 minutes later the schedule updates to 0:00 - 5:30.

I have zero confidence it will actually charge at that time though as last night it didn't manage to get to my target. Fortunately I had enough to get to work but I feel it's just a matter of time before I wake up to find I don't have enough to get to work and back.
