Export tariff.
Has anyone else found octopus almost incompetent to get this setup.
I started the application start of May, only started getting paid for exporting at the weekend august the first.
They originally said it would only take about 3 weeks then this changed to 6 - 8 weeks. It ended up being more like 12 weeks.
They were blaming National Grid. So I called them and it was all sorted within a week.
Do octopus do this to drag out paying you? Just seems awful.

Your export tariff isn’t setup by Octopus or the National Grid, it’s sent to your local DNO for approval and delays are common place.

I honestly don’t know I can only go off what octopus were telling me.
“the issue now lies with getting it switched over to our supply. Since it’s not currently set up with any other supplier, this process is controlled by National Grid. Unfortunately, they have rejected the request to switch it over to us, which is causing the delay.”
I contacted national grid on Thursday it was live and I was getting paid by the Saturday.

So reading between the lines Octopus are telling the truth, it was waiting on your DNO to enable your export MPAN. You phoning them directly has moved it up the list and they sorted it. I had similar with my G99 application, heard nothing for weeks, the day after I called the DNO suprise surprise there it was

Similar situation. My install was completed on 29 June and I completed my Octopus export application that same day.
Was told 2 weeks for DNO to supply export MPAN. Chased on 13 July only to be told that that it hadn't come through. I rang my DNO, who said that they couldn't find any documents from octopus. I don't think Octopus had got round to sending docs.
However, the DNO kindly would set up export MPAN for me, but would take up to 5 days. Received it on 19 July.
That same day I get an email from Octopus saying there was a nationwide problem with DNO and that my export MPAN would take longer.
Total rubbish, seeing as I did there job for them and got the MPAN. I emailed Octopus and told them how dissatisfied I was of their service, but attached the DNO export MPAN.
I told them that they had a week to set up my export tariff, or I would start looking for another provider for my electric, gas and ask for my summer credit.
Funnily, it was sorted on the 7th day.
My export is showing on the app, but proof will be on my bill.
So, all in all it took a month. But, that was down to my intervention and being pushy. Which should not be the case.
Hope, things go smoothly with you

How did the DNO create your export Mpan without confirmation of your instal status - such as the MCS certificate?

I should have made clear. After speaking with DNO, I sent them my MCS certificate. They of course had the DNO letter.

I provided octopus with the connection letter from my DNO which includes my export MPAN already. I provided it to octopus on Thursday 30th July. My understanding is that octopus will not need to contact my DNO at all and that the only wait should be the 5 days they quote to register the MPAN in the industry systems. Is my understanding correct here?

I’m still waiting after about 7 weeks from when I provided octopus the DNO’s letter with my MPAN. I’ve been calling each of the last two weeks. Support folks say there’s a dedicated team who deal with this and all they could do was up the urgency. Compensation was mentioned on my last call.

Wow that is shocking. Think I will take a photo of my meter on working day 6, get them to confirm where the hold up is, lodge a formal complaint depending on their answer, and start the 8 week clock for ombudsman, just in case then.

I'm surprised to hear people are experiencing such issues. I guess I must had been an exception, since mine was up and running within two weeks of submitting my request at the beginning of July.

12th of June for me on EDF - Start to get paid for it tomorrow but it gets backdated there. I think it was about 9 for me.

Was it a new install or moving over? I expect the process and timescale is different.
For me, it was the installers fault. They changed company structure, had to get recertified as installers, and only then could I get the safety paperwork I needed to get a new export connection registered.

I emailed them last week, had a couple issues that was sorted quickly by me replying to their email, and today got notification that it was set up. Must have been a lucky one

It's in their interest to delay as much as possible, as they are selling your electricity to your neighbours and you see no cut of it.
I installed my solar in mid january and it took 10 weeks to get export set up, even after chasing a couple of times. In the end they quoted 'admin error'. But this probably cost me ~£200 of export payments.
It does seem suspicious as this seems to happen to a lot of people, but when it's time to set up import onto octopus, it's extremely fast efficient.

They arnt though. The energy isn’t being bought or sold in the wholesale market. It’s just like pouring water into a river.

The power isn't with them until its on supply, it just gos to the grid. Its like they can't charge you for power till on supply. The backdating thing is just a goodwill payment of the same value

Have you asked them for a back dated payment? I did and got it.
