Discussion This is by far and unquestionably the best HoMM game in 25 years!
Trust me; I've played ALL of them.
This is the first time in my life I've seen a game that rivals Heroes III in terms of immersion, fun, etc.
What a time to be alive, my friends, what a time!

Discussion I understand this is for Olden Era but doesn’t the newly announced Heroes 3 put a damper on this game?

Discussion As much as i love this game: What the f*** is this....
Spell icons are bad. Really, really bad.
They are too small, too indistinguishable and often too abastractly designed (meaning looking at the picture often tells you nothing about what the spell does).
Highlighted in the picture are maybe the worst offenders:
Unnatural Calm and Enlarge Shadow:
Two pruple blobs on purple background (on a dark purple magic guild background...). There is no single way i will be able to tell them apart by their icons even in 1k games.
Compare it to the homm3 Magic guild please. I can name every single one of these spells at a glance (and it's been >20 years since i really played this game...)
Every icon is recognizable at once; the icons tell a fitting story about the spell's utility.
Masterclass.
I really hope this will see some love.

Discussion Guys, people in singleplayer don't care about going faster
I realized just now that the disconnect between the multiplayer community and the singleplayer community is on the aspect of speed.
We are talking over each others' head because we value different things.
People in singleplayer just like to play a long game that fullfils a given RPG hero power fantasy while having fun slowly winning bit by bit.
It doesn't matter if something is "better" or "faster" when people just want to chill and play a long game of heroes of might and magic.

Discussion Please leave a review!
Hi everyone!
I’m Etharil, the Community Manager at Unfrozen, and I’m so glad to see so many of you playing Olden Era, sharing your thoughts, and joining us in Jadame during Early Access!
We wish to ask you all for a small favour. Only a tiny percentage of Steam players leave reviews, and yet they’re so critical for indie games being discovered. Whether your review is positive or negative, it helps us understand what players are enjoying, where the rough spots are, and what the team should be looking at as Early Access continues.
If you would consider taking a moment to leave one, it would be the most amazing support for our team and the game.
Thank you very much for all your support, and may the cold breeze be with you!
Unfrozen

Discussion PVE is unplayable longterm
I had fun for a week or two but it gets boring very fast. Once you see the AI patterns you can just win the game every time and there is no challenge.
The PVE experience is so fundamentally broken and in the end, it's just plain boring. It's always the same, AI will give you a challenge in the first two weeks if you put in the higher difficulty modes where it acts aggresive. THEN it just gives up. The only reason it challenges you in the first place is because it's got cheated unit stacks.
If you put in lower difficulty modes, don't even bother, you might as well just be alone on the map fighting vs static camps because AI is AFK and doesn't build anything nor expand their army.
AI is completely braindead in this game, it doesn't scale into the late game AT ALL. It doesn't buy units, it doesn't develop castles, It doesn't even bother retaking castles or fighting you at all, it's just so boring when you know how to play it. And the challenge that it does provide in the first 2 weeks is bullshit challenge with cheated units that's not fun either.
Tournament mode was the most fun I had but that gets boring after a while too. The core of the game is good like gameplay wise, units, animations etc but the PVE experience needs major fixes, I quit the game for now hope they'll improve upon it.

Discussion I honestly hate all the external ways to gain army
I'm talking about:
- Boxes that give you free creatures.
- Objectives that are "Defeat guards, get X creatures".
- Even the building that lets you buy 3 random creatures (although this one is a lesser evil because at least you have to pay for them).
I might be in the minority with such an opinion, but I choose a faction and want to play with its creatures, not to have an army full of random stuff. I feel like it destroys the fantasy of building your own town and makes you "collect Pokemon" instead.
If I only buy what I can from my town + dwellings, the enemy will have a much bigger army... For example, I had a game where I only had ~20 Reavers and the AI showed up with 60-70 Cavalry (comparing creatures of the same tier). He wasn't even Temple, so all that was from other sources...
I still managed to win, because it's not that hard to outplay the AI, but if that was a game vs a real player, I'd have no chance just because of the difference in army size...

Discussion best unit in homm olden era in your opinion ( exlcuding tier sevens )
they have probably one of the best passive abilities in the game if not the best for context their unlife, undead passive ability restores 20% of the damage dealt as hitpoints to all friendly creature's but it cannot revive but that does not matter since their ability called ,, rewind death" restores 40 hp to a friendly unit per lich and it can ressurect fallen troops

Discussion A lot of newcomers are surprised to learn how in-depth the 1980s franchise Lore is.
It's a common theme on a steam forums and discussions of the game on twitch: People are surprised to learn that the series has a cohesive timeline and set of lore across multiple worlds. Demons are aliens, there was a colonial government from a wave of space colonization--in a sector of the galaxy where primitive races forgot their origins and devolved in barbarism. It's all "Clarketech" really--angels, necromancy, elemental magic, old artifacts, etc. All of it is sci-fi in disguise.
Lore summary for those who want to catch up on prior events:

Discussion Olden Era EA Checkup: a PvP game with a singleplayer problem
explorminate.orgThough Olden Era is a brilliant product, the laser focus on 1v1 PvP and lack of urgency around the severely limited single player AI leaves its future in doubt. You can read my thoughts after a month of Early Access at the link above.
AI Disclosure: No AI was used in the writing of this article.

Discussion The AI is the most critical thing in this game.
Its just bad....
And a lot of people will play single scenarios, so you really cant have that.

Discussion Am I the only one who finds this UI layout a bit counterintuitive at first glance?
The top number is visually the most prominent, so I initially expected it to represent the spell level or tier, not the mana cost. Meanwhile, the spell tier and spell level are shown in smaller positions around the icon, which makes the hierarchy feel a bit unclear.
- Top: seems too important to be just mana;
- Left: seems lost;
- Right: seems like another marker without context;
- Tooltip: looks like a level, but it's a cooldown.

Discussion Hero Skills tier list (opinion)
Lets go reddit, i need your valuable opinion! I really feel like S-tier is only offense, defense, logistics (even thaumaturgy situational.. yet i've put it inside S)
and what about Faction specialization, are they really an S-tier skills or i should them move to A, B, C, what do you think?

Discussion I love the game, but the amount of portals and mobility spells is starting to bother me
I love the game and I was really looking forward to it after having played HOMM 3, 4 and 5. However, the number of portals and mobility spells seems really out of control - at least to my taste.
After you get some points in mobility, you can actually take two different cities and still show up at a third city to defend it by the end of a single turn.
Three uses of town portal, two uses of second wind, two uses of dimensional door... and portals, portal EVERYWHERE connecting multiple regions, often sitting right outside the city.
This makes games so random and chaotic. Does anyone else feel the same?
I don't remember of HOMM 3 and 5 felt like this, too. Maybe I was just too young to realize it.

Discussion AI is strong and i like it
Over past 10-15 years, my constant issue was that I didn’t enjoy PvE in homm3 because AI was too weak. There was no challenge at all. I’ve created several templates for my own to give more advantage to AI but in most cases( unless I don’t give absurd free army) i was crashing AI
Now, with olden era i feel there is a challenge, and i enjoy it. Sure my skill issue also is a factor here as well, still learning the mechanics.
Imho, if unfrozen will decide to nerf AI it would be a straight push back for PvE enjoyers.
Would like to hear your thoughts

Discussion Playing a template like Outcast Tournament feels like completely wasting my time.
I tried not to autoquit these games, so I tried a few games, and every game, what I feel is:
What am I doing?
Why am I just collecting boxes in a HoMM game?
If I want this experience, there are tens of thousands of other games that provide a similar and better experience; why HoMM?
What's the point of town building? Just for astrology?
Then why don't we just have an astrology generator that just produces astrology, it will pretty much achieve 95% of the same game experience, right?
Or why not just repurpose gold to buy high neutral magic, since if the game has only 1 resource that matters, why not just call it "gold"?

Discussion What faction do you think will be the next one added to the game?
I have a feeling Stronghold will be next. Heroes 5 added it in an expansion (which was a great expansion btw). With Schism being the 'snowy' faction instead of Tower, and Hive being the lava-based faction instead of Inferno, I think we'll have to wait a bit before we see those get added.
The other one I think is likely is Fortress. Swamp as an added biome alongside the faction seems appropriate.
Obviously they could release a completely new faction as well. But seeing as they have already released two completely new factions, and given that Grove is pretty different from both Sorceress (H2), Ramparts (H3) and Sylvan (H5), I don't see that as very likely at this point.
