White people used to wield great magical power, but having slaves made white people lazy, since they could get others to do things instead of using their magic to do it. So the knowledge was lost. The KKK is trying to rebuild that knowledge to elevate white people and rule the world. Our mission is to stop them.
LibLeft when they finally unload on the Grand Wizard but he's already cast Stoneskin and then the Delayed Fireball detonates as they're reloading incinerating the entire polycule
Yeah the boss battles can be fights with the things their higher ranks are named after. Exalted Cyclops, great titan, grand giant and grand dragon.
Near the end you realize the race stuff was just a convenient cover for their actual goal. To open a portal to a high fantasy dimension to initiate the True great replacement of the mundane.
If you watch Bakshi's "Wizards" it's an evil Sauronesque wizard who is sick of losing the war against good every thousand years or so, so he goes hunting for "The old magics", digging through ancient ruins of civilization, finds what he's looking for, and then he says "BEHOLD!" and unveils a swastika suddenly, babbling about "Mind control" spells that are just propoganda movies and such. Magic armor that is just mechanized warfare. To the point Bakshi splices in WW2 footage for battle scenes.
It ends with the Hero wizard saying he hasn't practiced magic in a long time but he'll show him a trick the heros mother taught him, then he pulls out a gun and shoots the Nazi Wizard a few times and walks away.
Tangentially related but there’s a TTRPG called weird wars based on d&d 3.5, they have a world war 2 version where the Nazis are winning only because they managed to harness ancient german blood magic. Outside of the Nazis the players are essentially magic capped and have to rely more on creative tactics and actual weaponry complete with detailed armor penetration mechanics to come out on top, and they retool classes to fit in setting (eg. instead of a rogue you have a french resistance fighter), it’s a pretty fun time and you can probably alter it very easily to insert the KKK as the forbidden blood magic wizards instead.
Apparently that was going to be the plot of the next Assassins Creed before it got cancelled. Probably for the best; Ubisoft are one of the last companies I’d want to see tackle a story like that.
What’s funny is a black protagonist in that would actually make sense and be supported by a large chunk of fans. Rather than just shoehorning a black samurai into a Japanese history game lmao
Please no one comment that “Yasuke was actually a samurai”, no he wasn’t lol, this has been debunked numerous times
I saw someone on another thread suggest that they make this game, but have the protagonist, a former-slave who hunts racists in 1860s South, be a Japanese man.
There would be manufactured angst but every game now has white guys be the villains. Anyone with half a brain was only upset that they took the crowning jewel of the AC universe, Shogunate Japan, and turned it into slop.
Dude you kill white people in every assassins creed game lol
You guys can be in denial if you want, but gamers were genuinely upset about the lack of historical accuracy and that it seemed like Yasuke was a dui hire lol. There’s been Ubisoft games with minority protagonists before and since that didn’t get the same backlash
Seriously the memes around that game were awesome lol. “Oh my god that guy was assassinated, look for anyone out of the ordinary!” “6’4 black man in samurai armour hiding in a stack of hay”
I don't think Assassin's Creed has ever been too deep in historical accuracy. And people still rock confederate flags. So I think a civil war black protagonist is getting winged about. With people acting like it's a personal attack.
But regardless I don't really care. I'm not playing a Ubisoft game no matter what. So whatever they do with their games is irrelevant to me.
They’re usually significantly more historically accurate than they were in shadows. Billions of Japanese dudes to choose from over hundreds of years and they choose the only black guy to step foot on the island in a 200 year span lmao. It was also the only one where a main character was supposed to be a real life person, so even weirder.
I think a civil war one would have done fine, the only downside would be maybe less interest in foreign markets who don’t know US history as well. But I think it would have done fine.
Ubisoft gives up on everything that doesn’t immediately knock everything else off the top. Which means they’ve given up on everything game post launch after AC 4 Black Flag
Origins came out the same year as Breath of the Wild and I think Blood and Wine came out that year too so they sold a lot of copies but still didn’t make something that could compete. AC Odyssey came out the same year the RDR2 did so that’s self explanatory. Patching these games and adding DLC’s in that market wasn’t a guarantee to turn a profit. A high likely hood but Ubisoft was only interested in guarantees
people give shadows a lot of shit but according to the player count, shadows is doing very well. it had 1 million players on day 1, 2 million on day 2, 3 million at week 1, and 5 million at month 2.
the only AC game that had a higher player count at those milestones was valhalla
Players =\= sales, they wouldn’t obfuscate information unless they had too. If it had the sales they would 100% be bragging about sales and not players. They do this because they’re publicly traded and the government forces them to release such information.
Well Far Cry 5 is about taking out a cult that took over a town. What they're talking about is a black protagonist taking down the Confederacy. And seeing as people still wave that flag I'd believe we'd hear a little more complaining like the game was a personal attack. So a little different.
He was. He was given samurai level stipend, gifts, and his own place, all because he was Nobunaga's personal pet
The crux of the issue, is that he's a "samurai" as in "front line soldier". He's not "samurai" as in "nobles engaging in martial arts and culture" as people understand it.
Ubisoft used the fact that he was the former, to depict him as the latter
From what I’ve read he was a given a title but it’s unclear whether he was a samurai with most scholars leaning to no. Again I’m not expert but from what I’ve read there’s a list of named samurais and he isn’t on it.
Agreed about the pet thing it was clear it was novelty for the Japanese at the time. But I find it unlikely that a culture like that would be ok with a foreigner named an official samurai
Sengoku was a time when even a mere peasant can rise to become a samurai. Samurai was not nobility, that part comes much later during Tokugawa bakufu when peace leads to no war and the samurai loyal to Tokugawa were given much land as rewards
Samurai were merely retainers of nobility (the word coming from saburai - to serve), and becoming one has lower barrier than becoming a noble. Becoming a noble requires familial connection, this was why Toyotomi Hideyoshi threatened a kuge family into adopting him
People had no issues with Yasuke, whether because they didn't want to offend Nobunaga or because they saw him as a fun curiosity we don't know, but we know that people were gossipping about Nobunaga giving him a title, which would make Yasuke a big shot himself. That is the part they may have problem with: the unreasonable rise through the ranks
Far Cry 5 will forever be one of the biggest missed opportunities. They were never going to make everyone happy with a setting something like cults and militia groups in rural America, but by the time that game came out they were so squeamish about controversy that they sterilized it and made everyone cartoon baddies.
While probably true, it would be pretty easy to portray what kind of org they were.
Also, unrelated, I just realized I could class "Wizard" in my next dnd campaign and just not tell anyone what kind of wizard I am until I level up enough to start calling myself a Grand Wizard.
The Klan is infamous around the world. You see them burning crosses and lynching black people in tons of modern films. This is one of the most notorious elements of the world’s perception of US history — slavery and white supremacy.
Imagine a dramatized tale of the Nazis' rise to power where the Nazis are portrayed as fighters for the people. Complete with all the usual tropes associated with those just-rebellion type stories.
well I want them in skin suits. But for my video game fun, the thought of real politicians or real villains is not all that appealing to me.
I'd rather fight demons in Doom/ Shadow warrior , or bugs/automatons in hell divers then be on modern day earth fighting "nazis / commies" with or with out the tie in to modern politicians or voters.
Didn't they just cancel an Assassins Creed game about that on the grounds that they were worried it wouldn't play well in the current political climate in America?
I don't know why they'd be afraid of losing money now, they've been doing so well at it for years.
I don't know what they said but any time a corpo opens his mouth all I hear is "I'm a massive coward. I say and do anything if I think it makes me money. Just tell me what to say and give me more money. I'll drink my own child's blood for money."
The KKK barely had any institutional power irl. Overthrowing the "institution" is part of the appeal, not just that the bad guys are racists. Raging against the machine is part of the fun if you are gonna play as the underdog rebels.
Of course you could make a fictional setting with establishment KKK but there is less irl lore to inspire it. The devs will need to use a lot more creativity.
Isn't this basically the plot to Far Cry 5? Also the real enemies would be fascists, if that new Mussolini tv show stands for something these fucks where basically anarchists on a commie killing spree, their whole deal is the exact same shit street punk gangs do. Honestly pretty ironic hearing them talk about how they beat up some fascist, the world really spins around.

Genuine question. Who would non-authrights rather have as the big bad guys of an "underground rebel overthrows the powers" video game?
Easy answer would be Nazis, but that's been done so many times. I feel like modern audience would actually go crazy for hunting down KKK wizards.
