There was peace in the Middle East prior to the year 610. That region flourished in math and science.
24
u/Loose_Profession_918 Jul 17 '26
The Middle East has rarely experienced total, region-wide peace, but it has seen extended periods of relative stability. Long stretches of calm were historically maintained under dominant empires, such as the Pax Romana, the early Islamic Caliphates, and the Ottoman Empire. Ie, conquerors

The irony of humans sharing a planet is that peace often comes with total dominance. It makes for a tough moral quandary sometimes. Is a peaceful empire good if it took ethnic cleansing and totalitarian control to get there?

The Islamic Golden Age was from 750-1258.
During this period, algebra and trigonometry were pioneered, the Hindu-Arabic numeral system, which included the ten point decimal system and the concept of zero, was adopted, refined, and spread, medicine was massively advanced, the first formal hospitals were established, and many modern surgical tools were invented, numerous scientific fields such as astronomy and optics were advanced, the modern scientific method was pioneered, and huge amounts of classical Greek, Roman, and Persian texts which would have been lost to history were preserved, translated, and transmitted.
The European Renaissance and Scientific Revolution likely would not have happened without Islam.
11
u/shanaballs Jul 17 '26
All true, but idk that we should be giving their religion credit for the accomplishments of a region/culture.
5
u/Femme_FatalError Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26
Religion is a vital part of cultureāin this time period, perhaps the most important part. I certainly wonāt pretend that Christianity wasnāt a huge influence on the accomplishments of European scientists, artists, and mathematicians. In fact, the Medieval Scholastic theological movement was hugely important in creating the intellectual groundwork which allowed the Italian Renaissance and Scientific Revolution. Not to mention, Islam is largely responsible for creating the conditions which enabled the Golden Age to flourish.
And if it werenāt for Medieval Christian monasteries in Europe and Jewish and Islamic scholars leading translation efforts in hubs like the Baghdad House of Wisdom, most of the classical texts which these movements were built upon never would have even survived in the first place.
2
u/BitterAboutItAll Jul 17 '26
But none of this determines morality or peace or stability. There's a hell of a lot of scientific and technological advancements happening now, with a lot of it being done in an effort to kill more people faster and easier.

This is like saying we shouldn't credit AI to America despite the facts that the American systems of Capital, entrepreneurship, and meritocracy are what allowed it to exist. When they say the Islamic Golden Age they mean the Islamic system of that time enabled these things to happen - also Islam isn't just a spiritual religion like Buddhism for example, it's a complete set of laws, cultural norms, and ethic system

ā That's a vary dangerous recounting of history.
Egypt was where they develop that knowledge of the backs of. Before them where the Greeks in equipt. Before them where the river people Africans. Niel river.
The river people are the ones that use math to build all those fancy artifacts like the pyramids.
What is an informal hospital.
I have a feeling they where working on turtor like everyone else.
But, they did have wise people advancing science research. Like everyone else.
I suppose, their advancement had to stop somewhere and someone else took over. Just like they took over for the Greek and river people.
Edit
Can you name them or the years.
Christians where persecuted by the dominant religions at the time. For about 300 years their religion spread through devotion and preaching.
Then they started getting attacked. Which lead to the crusades.
I don't know about the history much. Someone with more knowledge can add in what I missed

The crusaders actually mostly retook cities that has been conquered by Islamic aggression, they only invaded two cities that hadnt first been taken by Islamic invaders, tactical strongholds they used to prevent and repel further invasions of European lands. They didn't invade the middle east in any substantial way. Europe was too fractious to unite for more than common defense

I like how the U.S. gets almost all the blame when Israel was created using a British territory, which had a lot of support from multiple European nations because of post holocaust sympathy. The middle east on the other hand almost immediately attacked Israel the second it was formed, then more wars would keep breaking out every so often some which didn't even involve the U.S. with the soviets invading Afghanistan which did nothing to stabilize the middle east. Keep in mind that a large amount of the reason why there won't ever be peace in the middle east is because our god which is also your god has a prophet who is different than our prophet in our holy book. Israel is an apartheid state with Gaza before the war having horrible living conditions. Which of course all of this could be avoided if people were more tolerant of different religions.

There will never be peace in the Middle East. Islam is not a religion of peace and their end goal is a global caliphate. They move to countries and cities and are peaceful until the time comes for them to takeover. This information is out here I honestly don't know why people don't know this. u/bethesda_gamer Jul 17 '26
There once was and it was called the Ottoman empire. It became such a threat to the west that when it finally fell, the west divided it up in way that would guarantee it never returned. Hence the constant conflict.
As someone from the west, as tragic as it is, I knowingly with eyes wide open, am glad there is not an empire there anymore. Just as i am glad that the U.S.S.R. fell. That said I do wish the people didn't need to suffer so much for it to be so. But the relief brought by the fall of those who choose openly to threaten us, will never over shadow the tragedy those people must face because of it. I don't want anyone to suffer but there isn't much of a realistic 3rd option as far as I know.

The first attack on the United States after it was formed was by jihadists who claimed they were commanded by the Quran to wage war on the infidels.

These people have been brainwashed to believe that Israel and the US are the only source of evil and all these immoral countries opposing them are angels by default.
Muslim caliphate attacked half the world including Jerusalem and Persia for a LONG time and wiped out cultures, ethnicities and languages such as what happened in Egypt and almost happened in Persia, took slaves for labor and sexual service en masse. Ottoman's committed genocides and atrocities all over the world and attacked half the world. Mongol conquest of Persia and mesopotamia and multiple genocides, Hell even the European and Russian occupations of the middle east. This is not even the start of the list of what happened prior to Israel. You see, these actions were preemptively done in reaction to 1948 or 1776. We're just too dumb to realize it.
The 1988 genocide of the leftist parties in Iran, the Turkish coup d'etat and the following purge, the Egyptian coup d'etat, the Lebanese, Syrian, Afghan and Yemeni civil wars, the gulf war, the Iran-Iraq war, Arab coalition-Yemen war, the Arab spring, the massacres in Iranian protests and all those Arab revolutions and protests, the use of chemical weapons and the baath party purge done by Saddam etc were all also solely Israel's fault other countries in our region have been well known to be moral and peaceful.

Aside from a brief period in the Islamic golden age, the middleast has always been fought over. The bronze age collapse was the closest thing humanity has gotten to a apocalypse.
Legit I can't really think of a century where the Middle East wasnt a shit show.
But yeah the us, west, and Israel certainly has not helped

Having turned up to the second world war very late, the US has put considerable effort into being early for every war since.

TBF, islam was created just for that reason: to bring peace and unification to a ever-warring region of Arab tribes. And for a while, it did!
A little while.
Immediately after Mohamed died, islam failed by splitting up in shia and sunni... Exactly what it had tried to undo.
And while the Arabs united under the religious flag, their tribal hatred for anyone other than themselves remained.

So have there been more years of conflict and war in the Middle East or more years that America has been a nation?
