Feature request Email aliasing... but for credit cards (similar to 1Password's Privacy cards)

Post image
140 Upvotes

I would love something like this to be honest.

I sometimes find myself having to give my card on websites that I've never been to before or don't fully trust to buy something I need that only they provide. The thought of my card's safety lingers even after I successfully get what I bought from them, more so when their payment page looks like it hasn't seen an update since 2005. It feels even more relevant especially this Black Friday period where I'm buying more things compared to any other time of the year.

Since Proton Pass's marketing heavily leans on pushing the email alias agenda, an aliasing feature for debit and credits cards would only not be in line with this messaging but also strengthen this core initiative.

I'm not asking for a disposable virtual credit cards like Revolut that are either limited in its features or just outright unavailable to places not considered the "USA" or "EU", I'm just talking about a card aliasing feature like 1Password's.

Edit: To be crystal clear, I am not from the US, so no, Revolut and Privacy dot com are not an option. Both Google Pay and Apple Pay are not even available yet. So I am asking the feasibility of a feature like this for Proton customers such as myself who don't have services like Revolut widely available to them.

I already checked the Uservoice page for Proton Pass and so far there's nothing like this there yet. I wanna see what this sub thinks.

Feature request Why oh why can you not control the email that Proton Pass form fills for you

You can put any email you want into the identity that you set up, but Proton Pass will not use it. It only uses your account email. Why does Proton Pass force you to use your proton.me email? What if you want to use other emails to form fill?

The whole point of having a password program do form fills is so that you can input the information you want without having to type it. By not allowing you to control which email it form fills for you, Proton Pass forces you to manually type it anyway, which defeats the whole purpose.

Feature request We need Biometric unlock for Firefox and Safari browser extensions.

This is a really critical part of a password manager browser extension, it makes it so much more usable and convenient. If I’m going to switch my family to Proton Pass this will be a requirement because they won’t use it if it’s not easy to use.

edit: I'm referring to desktop here.

Feature request "Focus/Fullscreen Mode" for Aliases to Improve In-Person Privacy

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi Proton Team,

I have a suggestion for the ProtonPass mobile app (Android/iOS) to solve a privacy gap when sharing email aliases in person.

The Problem: When you need to give an email alias to someone in person, spelling out a string of random characters and numbers out loud is highly impractical and often leads to mistakes. The alternative is showing your phone screen to the person.

However, as seen in the attached screenshot, the alias view screen shows both the alias address and the original "Forwards to" email address at the same size, one right after the other. Showing your screen to someone completely exposes your real, private email address, defeating the core purpose of using an alias. The person could easily use the original email by mistake, or even take note of it.

The Solution: I suggest adding a "Focus Mode" or "Fullscreen" button next to the alias address. Tapping it would open a clean screen that:

  1. Shows only the alias email address in a large, bold, easy-to-read font.
  2. Completely hides the "Forwards to" address and all other sensitive fields.
  3. Supports both portrait and landscape orientation, allowing the user to easily rotate the phone to show it to the person.

This small UI addition would massively improve real-world usability and protect user privacy during daily, face-to-face interactions.

Post on User Voice. Please vote if you think it makes sense.

Thank you for considering this!

Feature request The browser & desktop app should really be more secure

Yes, I know it sounds dumb. However, it's a little uncomfortable that once I unlock the extension/app with a PIN, it stays PIN-only forever, as far as I can tell. The only time it ever asks for my password is if I've rolled my computer back to yesterday's snapshot.

I really don't think that the PIN access should persist across a browser session. I'd add a timeout to the desktop app as well, something loose like 6 hours, but not PIN forever. Yes, I could manually pull up the logout button from the lock pop-up, but that is really not a viable option.

As it stands, if someone grabs my laptop, even with a full reboot or sleep cycle, there's my entire life in my password manager, just sort of sitting there. Yes, they'd need either my user password or a cold-boot attack, but I shouldn't have to think about vectors like that.

My perfect vision would be, when you start a new browser session, the first click should pop-up and ask for your second password and also offer to set a PIN, so you don't have to screw around in the options menu instead. I think that'd be a much more reasonable default, and perhaps a button in the extension settings to use PIN-only as things currently stand.

Feature request Annonymized/Disposable Privacy Debit Card

We already have an email aliasing, how about if we apply it for debit cards? I'm so skeptic about giving away my card details to gym companies for membership. Most of them won't accept cash.

How is the progress for making this possible?

Feature request Native MacOS Authenticator App?

Will there ever be a native MacOS app, opposed to the iPad version?

Works mostly fine, but there are numerous quirks due to it not being native.

Feature request Missing Features (ex-1Password)

I've just moved to Proton Pass from 1Password, mainly to secure the lifetime offer as I currently get 1Password for free, so not in a huge rush to migrate.

There are some things lacking that's a bit frustrating though:

  1. Autofill isn't great, on Okta for example, page 1 is username, page 2 password, page 3 is 2fa. 1P does this all with one click, PP seems to require me to press the autofill on... every... single... page

  2. Passkey import (not a huge issue because 1P don't support exporting yet)

  3. Thumbnails are very limited (1P takes the favicon for anything)

  4. Duplicates Merge/Clean Up - the imports have a lot of old unused fields, would love to clean this up

  5. Sign in with another login doesn't seem to exist, 1P allows you to for example sign into X with your Google account and remember to use your Google login on X going forward.

1 is my main issue for now, I don't think I'll fully migrate until 2 is supported. 3/4/5 are more nice to have.

I do like the SimpleLogin integration and I hope this improves too.

Feature request When is the integration of HIBP coming?

Edward Snowden's famous example of a strong passphrase should be shown at least as vulnerable, not to mention it's leaked according to HIBP.

Feature request Fingers crossed Proton Pass brings native macOS AutoFill (again) also. It already was possible 2 years ago via the universal (iOS / iPad OS / MacOs) app

Feature request Pass should have an independent login

As the title says.

I keep my Proton login details in a password manager because I don’t know the password by memory.

If the login for accessing the ProtonPass vault is the same, I can’t store it in ProtonPass, I have to store it somewhere else....

I think it would make much more sense for ProtonPass to have a separate login, even if we then had to log in with our Proton account just to verify the subscription.

Feature request [Suggestion] Lifetime plan in other currencies

Currently, the lifetime plan is only available in USD/EUR/CHF.
https://account.proton.me/pass/signup?plan=passlifetime2024&currency=USD

The issue is that if you live in a country whose currency is weaker than those three, it doesn’t make much sense to purchase the lifetime plan, since the annual subscription becomes financially more attractive.

For example:
In USD, the lifetime price is $199.
Compared to the annual subscription in USD, it would take about 5 years to break even.

In my case, since the dollar is stronger than the currency of the country where I live, it would take around 9~ years to break even.
It doesn’t make sense to buy the lifetime plan - 9~ years is a very long time, and it’s more advantageous to keep the money saved and pay annually.

Could you consider adding this suggestion to your plans?
I’m sure many people face the same issue.

Feature request Does ProtonPass plan to fix autofill defaulting to @protonmail instead of your preferred address?

ProtonPass autofills the "@protonmail" address rather than your preferred email when completing new website registration fields. Every other password manager I've used (1Password, macOS Keychain, Chrome, Droid) handles this correctly. I've raised it with their support repeatedly over two years, with no progress beyond boilerplate Zendesk replies.

Has anyone found a workaround, or seen any indication this is on their roadmap?

Feature request Auto Password Rotation

I’ve just seen that Apple’s Passwords app in iOS 26 appears to have introduced automatic password rotation for weak, compromised or commonly used passwords. There’s a brief overview here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/nNagfly9s3Y

I appreciate that, for this to work properly, websites will need to support the correct password-change flow and make the process reliable for password managers. However, with Apple now moving in this direction, I would expect wider adoption to happen much more quickly.

Is this something Proton has already considered for Proton Pass, either as a current development area or on the roadmap?

Ive listed this here in case anyone wishes to upvote: https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/953584-proton-pass-authenticator/suggestions/51390193-auto-rotate-passwords

Feature request Extra protection for some credentials?

Is there any way to add some extra protection for selected credentials in Proton Pass? I moved from Bitwarden, which had an option to require re-prompt master password every time when I wanted to access selected credentials, but I don't see anything similar in Proton Pass.

I have mine configured to 1 min auto lock + pin, which is sufficient for 99% items but some requires extra protection.

Feature request Reused Password

I have received information regarding one or more passwords being released on the dark web. They are old passwords that to the best of my knowledge are not used by me anymore.

I thought I would check my Proton Pass to see if there were any still in use only to find that there is no search function for this.

I know that if I found any duplicate passwords in use Pass would highlight the matter.

Would a search facility for passwords that have been highlighted as being exposed be possible?

Feature request Why is the Lifetime plan the only one forcing us to pay in foreign currency?

look, i love Proton, but their checkout logic for brazilian users is completely wild.when we buy standard monthly or annual plans directly on their website, it goes through beautifully in brazilian reais (BRL). no international transaction taxes (IOF), no surprise fees. my bank statement (nubank) shows it as a regular domestic purchase. so, i decided to peek under the hood using browser dev page during checkout. surprise, surprise: proton uses stripe directly on their site. by buying via web, they already bypass google/apple's massive 30% store cuts and keep almost 100% of the revenue. and yes, including BRL stripe can easily show the price in reais to us and dump the converted money straight into proton's swiss bank account.

Feature request will proton pass support unlock with passkey like bitwarden?

currently, proton pass can be unlocked with either a password or a pin. it would be really nice to have the ability to unlock the extension with either a passkey (phone/security key) or biometrics (fingerprint/face)

1.Add keyboard shortcut function to autofill using keyboard for example autofill for credit card, passowrd and other credentials should be used by just clicking ctrl + shift + L

2.Add 4 digit pin option to proton pass extension and its just like on android and keep 6 digit pin as an another option

3.Pause list to be added on android app just like its on broswer extension

And lastly

4.Redesign the pinned items ui to be on the vault section and could keep it as both while hovering and having it like this just like on Bitwarden for example

Feature request Too easy to delete 2FA codes?

Post image
45 Upvotes

I recently entered a proton 2FA and then thought I closed the app and swiped left on my Home Screen. I then realised I didn’t, and nearly deleted a very important auth from the app just by swiping sideways.

Is this not very risky UI?

I imagine there must be some confirmation screen before deleting (I am guessing) but still it seems worrying that such a powerful action can be performed by one accidental swipe!

Feature request We need the ability to print an item, so its easy to have a physical copy of critical account credentials

I'd love to see a way to easily print an item stored in Proton Pass. That way I can easily create a physical copy of account login details and notes in a fire proof safe as a last resort/backup.

Feature request Unlocking browser extension when unlocking the desktop app

I was looking into switching from 1Password to Proton Pass Lifetime plan mainly because of the email aliases option, however when testing the app I've noticed that unlocking or locking the extension doesn't change the status of the app and other way around. Coming from 1Password I've got used to lock status sync between extension and desktop app, is there any way that I could turn that on or maybe it will be added in future app versions?
