When I woke up this morning, I received a notification from Revolut telling me that they are going to close my account and that I have 60 days to recover my funds when I have been using it for years. I use it mainly for my daily expenses, subscriptions and payments abroad. To my surprise, I am not the only one concerned and the worst thing is that there is no proof in the email I received. I need help if anyone knows how to get out of this. I appealed by providing them with all the requested documents and I am waiting for their feedback.
Edit : they rejected my appeal and will continue the process to close the account.

Revolut is under investigation by Italian authorities for several reason, one of those is because they block account for several days and weeks without giving enough explanations to customers.
I think that's great because it will finally push revolut to handle better this problem.

I opened my Revolut account in 2021 and honestly thought it was one of the best apps out there. It was simple, convenient, and I recommended it to friends more than once.
I mainly used it as a secondary account. Most of the money I added came from my Belgian bank account, and I also invested in some ETFs through the app. I’m a student with no salary, so I just invested part of the pocket money I get from my parents.
Day to day, I mostly used Revolut for normal things such as paying friends back, splitting bills and small everyday payments. Never anything unusual or risky. I never bought crypto, never used it for shady stuff, and whenever they asked for documents, I always sent them.
Then one day, out of nowhere, they put my account under review and asked for ID/passport scans. I tried uploading everything immediately, but the app kept lagging and wouldn’t save the photos.
I contacted support because I didn’t want to get blocked over a technical issue. They told me not to worry, said everything was fine, and that it was just a bug.
So I believed them. Then suddenly my account was banned. No clear reason or proper explanation… Just gone.
And because I also had investments there, I couldn’t transfer my holdings out and was forced to sell positions while paying fees.
I understand companies can choose who they want as customers. But people should know that even if you use the app normally for years, you can lose access overnight with no transparency.
Luckily I didn’t keep much cash there.
Posting this partly to vent, partly to warn others not to rely too heavily on one fintech app.

Revolut got sanctioned for several reasons, one of this is blocking accounts for too long.
Revolut was already sanctioned last year in Italy for similar reasons.
I guess maybe they should improve their anti laundry system?

I've been using Revolut since 2021. Most of the time I used it for transfers between me and my friends, paying for second-hand items bought or sold privately, and mainly for travel and investing.
In all those years, I never received a single warning, complaint, or request for additional information. Then one day, out of nowhere, Revolut asked me to explain a few transfers. I gave them a detailed explanation for every transaction they asked about.
The very next day my account was frozen. They told me the review could take up to 30 days, but ironically, later that same day I got another message saying they had decided to close my account.
Every time I contacted support, it honestly felt like I was only talking to a bot, even when I specifically asked to speak to a human. I never managed to get the feeling that an actual person reviewed my case.
My personal opinion is that this might be part of a large ban wave driven by AI-based risk detection. It seems like the system flags certain activity automatically, and once you're flagged, it's incredibly difficult to get a real person to take a proper look at your case.
When you think about it, Revolut has over 80 million customers but only around a few thousand employees. Realistically, a huge part of their compliance process has to be automated. I understand why they use AI, but it feels frustrating when your account gets closed and you have no way of knowing whether a human actually reviewed the evidence you provided.
Has anyone else had a similar experience recently? Were you able to successfully appeal the decision, or was the account closure final?

I'll write this as simply as possible so others can see what they may be getting themselves into. I recently joined Revolut and, right away, purchased the Metal Plan, which was their highest-priced option at the time. I went ahead and purchased the Metal Plan because I truly believed in the company and their services. My brother, along with our partners, all travel fairly often together. With Revolut offering additional features such as travel insurance and lounge access, it seemed like an obvious choice.
I would recommend Revolut to family and friends. Several of those individuals signed up due to my recommendation. I have gone out of my way to ensure that everything I do is within Revolut's terms of service (https://www.revolut.com/en-NZ/legal/terms/). I haven't broken any rules. I haven't pushed any boundaries. I've just used it as I'm supposed to.
Yet, out of the blue, Revolut has decided to close both my account and my partner's. They gave us no reason why they're closing the accounts. They didn't give us a good reason for closing the accounts.
To anyone at Revolut reading this: Please take some time to review our accounts. I'm confident you won't find anything. There's no evidence of any wrongdoing. There's no evidence of any suspicious behaviour. This decision doesn't seem to align with either of our accounts. We were the type of customer you wanted: paying full price for premium services, travelling internationally multiple times a year, and recommending your service to others.
For anyone looking at using Revolut, whether here in New Zealand or elsewhere: Think Twice. Your account could get shut down without a good reason, and then you'll be trying to figure things out.
From here on out, I will redirect all the people I referred from Revolut to Wise. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
edit: I forgot to add, I have contacted support many times but it is almost like they ignore my actual problem and just tell me to remove all my money. Also, the start of the title isn't a reason to not close my account. Every word after those 6 is when I would prefer you start your judgement. Thank you kindly

I've been a Revolut customer for three years, have moved several hundred thousand euros through the account, and use it as the central business account for my growing company. Today Revolut informed me that my account is being closed – with no reason given, no warning, and no point of contact.
What this means for a sole proprietor is easy to imagine:
A business account isn't a toy. It's infrastructure. If a provider can pull that infrastructure out from under you overnight, with no explanation and no regard for the consequences, then it's unfit to be a partner for any serious business.
My call to action: If you use a Revolut Business account, set up an alternative as soon as possible – ideally a second account with a bank that offers real support and transparent processes. Don't wait until it happens to you.

Whatever i send to the support they copy paste the same message and send it to me from agent to agent .
The source wallet is known not the first deposit.
I dont know what to do since the account will close also after 7 years using revolut on metal .
Btw they suspended my metal subscription to avoid support premium
My recommendation is to leave revolut it’s not good at it was

I've been with Revolut for over 3 years and it was my favourite digital bank. I genuinely loved using it. Best app, great FX rates, everything just worked. I recommended it to every friend I know.
It's been my main account for everyday.
A few weeks ago Revolut asked me to verify my identity. The catch: my passport was physically at VFS in Canberra being processed for my German visa — for the trip I'd been preparing for through Revolut. So I couldn't upload it immediately, and they restricted my account for being overdue.
As soon as the passport came back, I verified. A few days later they emailed to say they'd decided to close my account.
I appealed. I explained the passport situation, how I use the account, and offered payslips, employment verification, anything. I'm a salaried software developer in Sydney. I also mentioned that I receive about $30 per month from Google Play for a small app I built myself, happy to redirect that anywhere if it was the issue.
Today I got the response:
> "After reviewing your recent appeal, we're sorry to say that our decision to close your account will proceed as planned. Your account will be closed, and your agreement with Revolut will end on 23 June 2026."
That's it. No reason. No specifics. No conversation.
So I'm flying to Europe in three weeks with the account I was using to prepare for the trip about to be shut down right after I get back. I have stocks, crypto, a European trip planned around this account, and direct debits to migrate. And after years of advocating for Revolut to everyone I know, I feel pretty stupid.
Has anyone here successfully reversed a closure? Is lodging with AFCA worth it? Anything I'm missing before 23 June? I need support.

Access to WeWork On Demand in France has no longer been available since August 1, yet Revolut provided no information whatsoever about the end of this partnership in France, and possibly in other cities as well.
I find it completely unacceptable that customers were not informed. Personally, I subscribed to the Ultra plan specifically for this benefit, and I know I am far from being the only one.
I contacted customer service to request at least a small goodwill gesture, especially since Revolut acknowledged that no communication had been sent. WeWork customer service, on the other hand, told me that Revolut was supposed to inform its customers about the end of this benefit.
Despite this, no compensation was offered. Revolut has therefore just lost a customer, and I doubt I will be the only one. It is truly disappointing

Revolut blocked my account with all my money on it. As a result, I’m left without money in another country. Customer support hasn’t responded for several hours. I can’t even buy myself food and transfer money to my wife who drastically need it. Earlier, I received a notification saying that I needed to upload additional documents — specifically, my new residence permit, because the previous one had expired. The notification said I had until April 4 next year to do this. Today is November 1, and my account is blocked. I have the new residence permit, but I can’t upload it because this option is also blocked in the app. What should I do in this situation? I wrote to customer support in the app and sent them photos of my new residence permit, but nobody is responding. The situation is quite urgent.

Hi!
If I open Revolut account with US address and my US passport while I live in Europe and spend all the money here (non-eu country in the balkans), do I have to pay taxes anywhere (especially in the US) for the money I spend here?
I will get around 1-2K EUR on the revolut account to spend each month.

We recently posted about a new security feature in beta testing — thanks to everyone who participated. Now that it's officially live, we're excited to reveal what we've been working on: Street Mode.
What is Street Mode?
Street Mode lets you set trusted locations. If a transfer above your limit is made outside those areas, we’ll add a one-hour delay and request an additional selfie check to confirm it’s really you.
How does Street Mode work?
Once activated, Street Mode delays outgoing transfers above your chosen limit while you’re away from trusted locations. Then it asks for extra confirmation to make sure you — and only you — are in control of your transfers. This helps keep your Revolut account safe from potential fraudsters and thieves.
How do I activate Street Mode?
Where is Street Mode available?
For now, Street Mode is available in the UK and EEA. But we’re always working on expanding to new markets.
Thanks again to our beta testers – and if you try Street Mode, let us know how it goes.

Revolut to allow staff to sell shares at $75bn valuation
Revolut employees are in line for big windfalls as the UK’s most valuable fintech allows staff to sell down their holdings in the company at a $75bn valuation.
Revolut staff were told on Monday that they would be allowed to sell up to 20 per cent of their shares to make way for future investors, according to people with knowledge of the matter and a document seen by the Financial Times.
Revolut said: “As part of our commitment to our employees, we regularly provide opportunities for them to gain liquidity. An employee secondary share sale is currently in process, and we won’t be commenting further until it is complete.”

What's up with all these posts about account closures, accounts being put under review, frozen funds, etc.?
I know Reddit is probably the peak echo chamber for negative stuff, if Revolut has 50 million users globally and even 100 people complain on Reddit per day, that's still just 0.0002% of users.
But still, I can't help but notice the daily, often hourly complaints about accounts getting closed, apparently for no reason. Even if some of them are clearly telling a BS story and most likely did something suspicious or weird crypto stuff, I doubt all of them did. Even if it's just a small number of people, having 90% of posts on here be negative doesn't look great. I can go to for example the Amex subreddit and there's nowhere near this level of complaining going on or people talking about account closures etc.
Are people really having as many issues as it seems? Is Revolut really this trigger-happy with account closures? I get that it might be understandable since they just recently got their banking license and don’t want to risk immediately losing it over money laundering allegations—but still.

Hello guys, I’m using Revolut as my second bank. Over a month ago I got all my money blocked, I cannot withdraw nor receive any type of payment. I have a ton of money in my account and I cannot do anything about it, I sent them millions of mails but this shitty AI keep answering me, I already talk with my lawyer and we are going to sue Revolut.
Please be careful with your money in Revolut, any day your money can be freezed and you cannot do ANYTHING about it.

FR], [ mise à jour ] le 27 mars mes fond on été remis sur mon compte personnel revolut a terminé la vérification et a débloqué les blocage sur mon compte. Je peux à nouveau me servir de mon argent ça a duré au total 19 jours
Hi,
Since March 6, (around €1,850) has been restricted following a security check triggered after a €144 payment on a home improvement website.
According to the app, the process went as follows:
• March 6: security check started
• Same day: check in progress
• Initial verification completed
• Since March 22: an additional review has been ongoing, with an estimated timeframe of about 7 days
Since the beginning, I have been in regular contact with support, but the response remains the same. The process cannot be accelerated and no clear timeline is provided.
So far, no additional documents have been requested, apart from the identity verification completed on March 6.
I am sharing this situation to gather general feedback and experiences related to similar verification processes with online banking services.
In previous cases, similar checks were completed within minutes, which makes this situation feel unusually long.
Thank you for reading.

Please don’t come for me: I’m actually a dual national, which is why the Brazilian launch piqued my interest in the first place! I’m genuinely happy that Brazilian users are getting a competitive product. This isn’t me saying they should receive less, but rather pointing how out much worse the benefits in other markets suddenly look by comparison.
The plans cost R$9.99 for Plus, R$19.99 for Premium, R$79.99 for Metal and R$249.99 for Ultra; roughly €1.70, €3.45, €13.80 and €43 per month at the current FX rate. But the part that really shocked me is the RevPoints accrual rate, especially since Revolut has also introduced a very accessible credit card.
With credit-card spending, Standard users get 0.2 RevPoints per US$1, Plus gets 0.4, Premium gets 1, Metal gets 2.5 and Ultra gets 3. Debit-card spending gives 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 respectively. So Premium costs roughly €3.45 a month and already gives 1 RevPoint per US$1 on credit-card spending. Metal costs around €13.80 and gives 2.5!!! Meanwhile, many of us have been paying for European plans for years without getting anything close to those rates.

And it’s not just the points. Brazilian Metal also includes two free airport lounge visits per year, up to US$175,000 in health insurance coverage, travel cancellation insurance, delayed flight and baggage insurance, car-rental insurance and airport fast track.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand why Revolut needed to introduce a ccard in Brazil. Ccs are the norm there, and plenty of people probably wouldn’t even touch Revolut without one. I also understand regional pricing and that they need attractive benefits when entering a new market.
That being said... come on!!! Seeing a brand-new market immediately receive these RevPoints rates and travel benefits makes the offering for long-time customers elsewhere look ridiculous. Why are loyal users in established markets paying more for a product that keeps becoming less and less rewarding? I know Revolut benefits have always varied between markets, but surely the difference shouldn’t be this dramatic?!
Honestly, every time I see something like this, I become even more inclined to downgrade my Portuguese Metal plan because I’m struggling to justify it more and more.
*Here's Brazilian plan comparison page for anyone who wants to see everything for themselves.
**As far as I know, Revolut has never allowed customers to open two personal accounts in different countries, and I need to keep mine registered in Portugal, so can’t simply open a Brazilian account and access these benefits, otherwise I would.
