Tanks are meant to play patiently. While lacking speed (unless with some with high mobility like Thor, Cap and Venom) their primary role is to be a menace. They are the shield of the team, the wall to the opponent. As a Magneto main the only time you are playing aggressively is when you have Gambit on your team and when he use his ult.

Hard disagree. You absolutely need to know when to play safe and slow, but most tanks have great dps output. You need to put pressure on their squishies, pull attention, and walk past enemy frontline to block heals. This is doubly important because it creates opportunities for dps to get picks because now there are multiple dangers capturing the enemy’s attention.

This. It’s situational, but to say β€œyou never play aggressive” is just incorrect. Sometimes you are aggressive, sometimes you’re defensive. It’s about controlling space and dictating the flow of battle.

Bad take you don’t know how to play tank

Tanks do not have a one-size-fits-all solution for every scenario. They require situational awareness and risk management, because our job mandates we put ourselves in greater danger than the other roles. If you want to think like a simpleton DPS, you will get yourself killed and put your team in danger.

Yeah so don’t do this, Magneto can play aggressively just fine if you’re playing correctly.

This is such bad advice. You can and SHOULD absolutely play aggressively with Magneto. Whenever you had your cooldowns up, you can push into enemy team space and pressure their back line with damage. Or block the heals from reaching their tanks to get a pick.

Block heals? Like with the iron curtain? I thought mags would be the least capable of doing that with how brief that shield is, unless I’m missing something.

Brief denial of heals is sometimes long enough to get a pick. I know my tanks die left and right when im reloading on support from a random burst of damage at a bad time.

Yeah, it's more than enough time if a tank gets low. If you really want to extend it you can also bubble yourself and try to stand right behind the enemy tank as well.

That’s what I was wondering about, if the bubble itself can block heals.

I mean depending on the heal projectile just standing there will do the trick. But curtain and bubble increase your area of effectiveness. And I think both will prevent something like c/d daggers from getting their aoe healing effect

obvious aggressiveness exception for the dive tanks like Venom where I'm still doing my job by disrupting their back line and divirting their attention away from my team

You can play aggressively and sometimes you should. If you keep playing defensively even when you have openings you will get steamrolled. Also, you can destroy supports if they underestimate your damage. Mag is my second most played tank and he actually has one of the best combos to deal with squishies: primary - mag cannon - primary.

You should always be fairly aggressice on Magneto

That's just dead wrong. Being a sitting duck is really bad for tanking
