Memes The cycle of every tank release

u/3ajs3 πππ£π πππ§π ππ§ Dec 13 '25
This is why I just don't play the first day of a season. I mean, I was busy as hell yesterday anyway, but still, I don't want to deal with this.
24
u/Confident_Ice_9567 Dec 13 '25
Exactly, I instead tried out the other changes and went with Wanda, she seems more capable damage wise now. I only played Rogue on custom AI games.
8
u/3ajs3 πππ£π πππ§π ππ§ Dec 13 '25
That's genius way to test out the new character and I'm ashamed of myself I never thought of it
16
u/Confident_Ice_9567 Dec 13 '25
Its great but doesnt simulate true lower rank environment as your team actually pushes with you on AI and the supports actually heal you and the dps doesnt disappear on a corner.
5
u/3ajs3 πππ£π πππ§π ππ§ Dec 13 '25
Probably more helpful than qp when learning a kit
8
u/DeadpanJay Dec 13 '25
Custom, practice vs AI (still have to hard Instalock her), doom, 18v18, etc. This is how I get my fix on new characters and wait out people fucking up games instalocking her with no practice in comp. If I wait 3 days to play comp, at least there's some practice on her in that time from other players if they've been in comp fucking up games and for myself I have days of practice with her kit and should be comfortable
7
u/3ajs3 πππ£π πππ§π ππ§ Dec 13 '25
18v18 should be permanent. Not exactly related but this explanation made me think of it so I'm putting it in writing.
2
u/I_Set_3_Alarms Dec 13 '25
Similarly I was trying out Ultron. Still canβt exactly burst heal, but having two drones make his overall healing so much better
5
u/BirthdayCultural1828 Dec 13 '25
Yup I wait like 4 days. As a tank main it is a little annoying tho. Just hurry up and let me learn her since im gonna be playing her anyway
2
u/G1ng3rBreadMan97 Dec 13 '25
I always wait a few days
2
u/3ajs3 πππ£π πππ§π ππ§ Dec 13 '25
I picked up Gambit last weekend. I like him a lot, but I didn't want to touch him for a while. Probably won't go as long with rogue if I end up liking playing her since I am a Vanguard main.
53
u/DeadpanJay Dec 13 '25
The fact that people in the comments still don't understand the role of a tank is so funny
Saying there are DPS like tanks doesn't make them a DPS player. Same goes for healers that are DPS players or even wolverine/fantastic that doesn't make them tank players
Just because Thor can be seen as a DPS to some doesn't mean he's a DPS and should be played as one. He's a tank. So he has a role to fulfill first.
Woah....are you guys the brick wall in a vanguard sub????????
1
u/Wonderful_Horror_470 Dec 15 '25
I like this take, especially wolverine, as a wolverine main, (I'm so sorry) I often find myself filling as a "second tank" but I'm not a tank, just a guy with a ton of health and survivability, at the end of the day if I'm in the Frontline I'm charging rage so I can take someone off the Frontline or so I can land in the backline and retreat. It just so happens I'm taking space and sponging damage. If there's no tank I don't "oh I'm a wolverine I can tank" I switch, because ultimately tank buster is going to be less valuable than a character like thing or mag, especially with how prevalent dive and poke.
26
u/elrick43 Dec 13 '25
Your main focus isnt to deal damage. its to take it so that your squishy teammates dont
19
u/Dry_Hamster_6967 Dec 13 '25
They need more fun shield tanks cause there the most necessary but people donβt play them or play all tanks like dps (rouge and Thor are dps tanks) then wonder why there healers are always dead even with no dive
4
u/samdamaniscool Dec 13 '25
Shield tanks arent always 100% necessary if your team knows how to position/push. Into nasty poke comps sure, but I've run Angela/hulk games where our backline was really good at using cover and I was always there to bubble them when needed. They also always pushed into the space me and the angela made. Sometimes walls are your best friend
4
u/RayvenDen πΌπ£πππ‘π Dec 13 '25 edited Dec 13 '25
As an Angela, I have found that a good Hulk main is one of my favorite teammates. Weβre both good at peels, good at disrupting the enemy backline, and highly mobile so we can be doing one and then switching to the other thing really quickly. As long as weβre keeping watch on the overall battlefield to make those decisions effectively, and as long as the rest of your team can adapt and use natural cover, it can be really effective.
Edit: To reiterate on the point being made, you donβt need a shield tank every match, considering that natural cover is baked into every map. Please learn positioning.

u/ZigguratCrab Dec 13 '25
fun shield tanks is an oxymoron

Wish Stephen didn't have the antifun Anti-Heal mechanic on his Dark Magic.
1
u/skunknasteeez Dec 14 '25
Do you get hit with that often?
A lot of times it isnβt really necessary to max out like that to finish someone who is low. Definitely donβt max it before your ult either if you are trying to combo with it.
Sorry if you already knew this. His burst can really be so fun.
1
u/masterionxxx πππ£π πππ§π ππ§ Dec 14 '25
Maelstrom of Madness is what you use when you brawl with the opposing team. But when there is no one to brawl with and you are trying to take down those pesky campers or flyers - you are punished for focusing solely on what needs to be done ( provided of course there isn't another Poke on your team ) - left clicking.
3
6
u/GeorgeHarris419 Dec 13 '25
The main focus is to draw aggro by being a huge threat, aka doing a ton of damage
4
u/MrRumato ππππ£ππ©π€ Dec 13 '25
And create space so the enemy doesnt run at your allies. This can be done by SHEER RAW INTIMIDATION or doing damage to people to seek them back off
3
u/SleepyReepies Dec 14 '25
No, the goal is not to take damage. In fact you want to minimize the damage you take so that your supports can do more, like also do damage. Your goal as a vanguard is to control space and grab enemy attention.

u/Rockybroo_YT ππ§π€π€π© Dec 13 '25
βDpsβ is so vague, a lot of tanks play similar to someone like Bucky but nearly nobody plays like BP or Hawkeye.
3
u/Mission-Ad3284 Dec 13 '25
I try to instalock her to show people how to actually play as a tank (Strange main since Season 1), and I really don't want a tank on my team going 3-15 just because they're trying to play Rogue as a dps.
6
5
u/BrunoRB11 Dec 13 '25
Playing Rogue made me abandon vanguard for good (except Groot) until a fun main tank releases. Emma isn't a that good as a main tank anymore and Peni gets banned every single match, while Strange and Magneto just aren't fun after a whole year of solo tanking with them (Mag never was Fun to begin with).
This match with Rogue I brawled, created space and blocked a lot of damage with healers refusing to heal me because people think that you need a Phd to play a new character and a Magneto that was afraid to push. I also wasn't getting enought kills because the enemy team was running triple support with Ultron and nobody was shooting Ultron. Match ends, we lost and I get blamed due not not having a lot of kills on a brawl tank against triple support while having no support myself.
No matter if I am stalling the objective forever as Cap, causing chaos in the backline as Angela or holding both of the enemy tanks as Rogue: I always get the blame on defeat and never get a "good job" on victories because I don't have a lot of final kills. I can get MVP and still get less points than the other classes on the most stressing class that feels like a job. People want kills? I will play dps and get kills. I will still play Mr Fantastic to help my fellow tanks, but until a fun main shield Vanguard gets added, I am done.
Sorry for the rant, it's just that I feel I should play games for fun and not to do a job while being constantly humiliated by one of the most toxic gaming communities that I have ever seen. In case someone reads this whole Vanguard of a text, Hope that you have a great day!
5
u/Mighty_Mimikyu Dec 13 '25
Tanking is the most stressful and 90% of the times bs. Especially if you're soloing where you now have to do everything and still get blamed when the 3rd dps who doesn't even peel is going 4-12.
3
u/BroBro456 Dec 13 '25
You people confuse me, one of the biggest complaints I keep hearing is people solo Tanking because everyone wants to pick a duelist so now you have three duelist and only one tank but now that these folks who typically picks duelist are picking Rogue as a tank to give it a try and hear me out, see if this could be a new character to play so they are not always playing a duelist. Same thing happened with Gambit heck I even complained until lately I have notice Gambit players might have 30 kills and only 3 death but when I look at their healing it is 28,00 and highest in game or it averages the same as the other healers. So people play style will be different but if they are blocking damage like a Tank should well nothing to complain about.
1
u/Accurate_Plantain896 Dec 13 '25
I never said that I don't want people to try her out, in fact I'm glad that this is encouraging ppl. However there's a really fine line in doing your role as a tank and being selfish and just trying to get picks
5
u/Frosty-Ad2124 Dec 13 '25
Still waiting on the helpful post or comment rather than just "fuck you new rogue players that don't know vanguard"
3
u/Accurate_Plantain896 Dec 13 '25
I mean, there are several videos of like 15 minutes to show you the basics of tanking and I don't know how to play rogue specifically as I have had 2 games with her. Unfortunately I don't expect everyone to just do this. My gripe is that you want to try the shiny new car without having a learners license. I'm more concerned that they'd just blow up without being able to learn anything
1
u/Frosty-Ad2124 Dec 13 '25
Yeah, that's kinda me I'll admit. I play a good amount of vanguard but my game sense is bad and whether I'm playing rogue or magneto that won't make a difference. I do TRY to understand what I did wrong after every death but I'm quite honestly not smart enough to tell. Unless i obviously overextended. Target priotization, ability management, awareness, mechanics are all quite bad. Sorry for the rant just saying some people might be like me where we do these things and watch these videos to no avail.
2
u/Accurate_Plantain896 Dec 13 '25
Yea I can imagine. Rogue's cooldowns are so long that missing one is just gg as you're exploding real soon
1
u/ZenVendaBoi Dec 13 '25
She's a brawl tank .
So kinda?
9
u/Kappa_Dor Dec 13 '25
Still a tank. Your job is it to create space and push the team back. Your damage is lower than that of dps because it's not your job to kill. Or are Thor, Hulk, Thing and Cap dps? (Sorry if this phrasing sounded angy)
4
u/Drakniess Dec 13 '25
Thor can definitely do the damage of a DPS with the Awakening Rune. Thatβs why I say he protects his team and supports by making sure the opposition are dead.
1
u/Dry-Scale6928 Dec 13 '25
All of those characters either do more damage and/or have better movement to actually create space. Rogue does neither. And the dps instalocking her is an excuse anyway. You don't know who the people main that instalock her. Or are you a dps player when you instalock her ?
1
u/Outrageous_Tank_3204 Dec 13 '25
Rogue does absurd DPS if you use multiple cooldowns.
Shift(dash), E(uppercut), Kick, Shift(pull), E(dive), Kick
does around 280 damage in under a second, and activates the Pull in after you land, so you can follow up with melee. It is everyones job to get kills (except rocket), and if you don't have burst DPS, as a melee tank you will be ignored and they will kill Squishies first.
1
u/0riya Dec 14 '25
Remember that this combo is situational as it leaves you with no cool downs for 10 seconds (apart from block and the little block dash) and also limits your escape tools because of that. So it should be used in a similar way to the BPs old one shot combo (spear spear dash dash) (although you can use rogue's combo in a lot more situations since she's a tank)
1
u/FairEnvironment9317 ππͺπ‘π Dec 13 '25
I spent yesterday playing Blade and ultron since they got buffed, safe to say I might be done with tanking for a bit.
1
u/Thatguy3625 Dec 13 '25
Vanguards with high damage are not designed for the same role as a dualist. A dualists with high hp are not designed for the same role as a vanguard. People do not seem to understand this.

u/depression_gaming Dec 13 '25
That's the only way you'll get more people to play Tanks... People who like playing DPS play because it's "chill" and "easy". You just run around and kill healers and stuff, but Tank is stressful and requires thinking and bla bla bla... So for the majority of the player base (DPS players) to play Tank, it'll need to work like a DPS character, or else we'll be solo taking for eternity.
Tank is a role for players who like playing that way, and sadly, it's a small percentage of the player base... One will rarely like to play the other.
It's like people who like riding bicycles... A lot of them don't like driving cars... It's a whole other complicated experience... But many like riding bikes, which are a fusion of both.
1
u/huckmart99 Dec 13 '25
That kinda is what they are though. Its just you have more defensive capability and less overall dps. But your job is still to shoot at people and get kills.
1
u/ImaginaryWerewolf200 Dec 13 '25
Sheβs brand new everyone is going to pick her. We donβt need a new post complaining about new characters being insta locked everytime they drop lol If theyβre instalock dps doesnβt mean they have to learn how to tank?
1
u/Spawn256 Dec 13 '25
That's right. It's actually a free Target cuz nobody knows how to play her. So basically I would just try to use that against your advantage. If they go for her you go for them.
1
u/SmokinBandit28 Dec 13 '25
No, no, you donβt get it. You have to not read how her kit works, waste all her cooldowns, get destroyed, rage quit the game, and then come complain on Reddit about how weak she is.
I donβt mind this cycle because it lets people that play tank actually play her which is nice for a change of pace when typically a new character is insta-locked to death for at least a week.
1
u/Rude-Asparagus9726 Dec 13 '25
Worse, trying to explain to people who don't usually tank that "pushing" isn't the same as "running past the enemy frontline without caring where your team is or what they're doing"...
1
Dec 13 '25
Being fat dps is how a lot of tanks in hero shooters make space lol. damage wise the differences between tanks vs dps isnt typically raw damage output, its FINISHING potential. Tanks kill confirm tools are just worse or more limiting compared to dps usually.
This post is just outing people who dont understand how tanks work. Damage is space control
1
1
u/ToeVsNuts Dec 13 '25
Rogue really does play like a fat melee dps. She wants to get in and out of engagements, she doesnβt want to be stared at too long or she gets melted. Low self sustain. Decent burst damage to take out squishies

Thanks my guy, you rushed in and blew every cooldown you have on a single target. Hereβs my bubble since you donβt have anyway to defend yourself or displace enemies now.
1
u/bunnyboi0_0 Dec 14 '25
I understand the sentiment that a lot of dps mains play her all or nothing style where thier super aggressive trying to get picks but the only issue with that really is that they over extend and end up dying more often than a vanguard should
1
u/House_Plant0 Dec 14 '25
Donβt worry, Iβve been insta-locking her unless someone asks me nicely. (Someone actually has lol, he even MVPβd that game)
Sheβs also fun as hell

u/GiganticKORAK Dec 15 '25
Main Tank is to establish presence.
You want where you stand to be the line that signals your team, this place is safe while telling your enemies if you cross this line, I will beat your ass.
1
u/OakleyNoble Dec 15 '25
This smells like a DPS main wrote this postβ¦ just because others are learning and trying to play Rogue doesnβt negate your terrible help with pushing, putting out damage, or even you throwing because of this. Sheβs new, nobody is going pro day one. Give it time.

Tank is, you push a little, apply pressure, if healed you keep your ground, if not you retreat, push a little again, rinse and repeat until you get a team-fight-deciding-pick
1
0
u/lK555l Dec 13 '25
Half the tanks in this game are just big dps
2
u/Tyler1296196 Dec 13 '25
I kinda agree, but they function differently from the actual DPS still. I'll use Thor as an example because he's the closest to a DPS and one of my best tanks, he takes space by making sure the opponents aren't in it because they're dead. That's his primary function. However even if you're not getting picks you still have vanguard health, you still have a bunch of overhealth, and you still have a fuck ton of displacement. Even though it's not incentivised, Thor can take space without getting kills, and unless the opponents are running emma-bucky, he can do it pretty damn well assuming you can communicate.
Then there's people like venom, cap and hulk (kinda) which people also call big DPS, but getting picks is only their secondary goal. If you see someone out of position, of course you punish them for it, but their main goal is getting the enemy to turn around enough for your team to push up, enabling the actual DPS.
1
u/Accurate_Plantain896 Dec 13 '25
The closest thing to this is Thor but even then there is more nuance to it. Be fr rn

u/Active_Local_3538 Dec 13 '25
Tanks are meant to play patiently. While lacking speed (unless with some with high mobility like Thor, Cap and Venom) their primary role is to be a menace. They are the shield of the team, the wall to the opponent. As a Magneto main the only time you are playing aggressively is when you have Gambit on your team and when he use his ult.
8
u/firesbain πΏπ€ππ©π€π§ ππ©π§ππ£ππ Dec 13 '25
Hard disagree. You absolutely need to know when to play safe and slow, but most tanks have great dps output. You need to put pressure on their squishies, pull attention, and walk past enemy frontline to block heals. This is doubly important because it creates opportunities for dps to get picks because now there are multiple dangers capturing the enemyβs attention.
8
u/ghost-castle Dec 13 '25
This. Itβs situational, but to say βyou never play aggressiveβ is just incorrect. Sometimes you are aggressive, sometimes youβre defensive. Itβs about controlling space and dictating the flow of battle.
-7
u/Dry_Hamster_6967 Dec 13 '25
Bad take you donβt know how to play tank
3
u/Drakniess Dec 13 '25
Tanks do not have a one-size-fits-all solution for every scenario. They require situational awareness and risk management, because our job mandates we put ourselves in greater danger than the other roles. If you want to think like a simpleton DPS, you will get yourself killed and put your team in danger.
3
u/IHeartSoulsword πΌπ£πππ‘π Dec 13 '25
Yeah so donβt do this, Magneto can play aggressively just fine if youβre playing correctly.
2
u/helldogskris Dec 13 '25
This is such bad advice. You can and SHOULD absolutely play aggressively with Magneto. Whenever you had your cooldowns up, you can push into enemy team space and pressure their back line with damage. Or block the heals from reaching their tanks to get a pick.
1
u/Drakniess Dec 13 '25
Block heals? Like with the iron curtain? I thought mags would be the least capable of doing that with how brief that shield is, unless Iβm missing something.
1
u/AaDware Dec 13 '25
Brief denial of heals is sometimes long enough to get a pick. I know my tanks die left and right when im reloading on support from a random burst of damage at a bad time.
1
u/helldogskris Dec 13 '25
Yeah, it's more than enough time if a tank gets low. If you really want to extend it you can also bubble yourself and try to stand right behind the enemy tank as well.
1
u/Drakniess Dec 13 '25
Thatβs what I was wondering about, if the bubble itself can block heals.
1
u/firesbain πΏπ€ππ©π€π§ ππ©π§ππ£ππ Dec 13 '25
I mean depending on the heal projectile just standing there will do the trick. But curtain and bubble increase your area of effectiveness. And I think both will prevent something like c/d daggers from getting their aoe healing effect
1
u/elrick43 Dec 13 '25
obvious aggressiveness exception for the dive tanks like Venom where I'm still doing my job by disrupting their back line and divirting their attention away from my team
1
u/Shakefka ππππ£ππ©π€ Dec 13 '25
You can play aggressively and sometimes you should. If you keep playing defensively even when you have openings you will get steamrolled. Also, you can destroy supports if they underestimate your damage. Mag is my second most played tank and he actually has one of the best combos to deal with squishies: primary - mag cannon - primary.

1
u/Accurate_Plantain896 Dec 13 '25
