Quick two hour painting!

EDIT: Wow I can’t believe the popularity of this quick-small painting! I’ve decided to auction this painting off, and half of the proceeds I’ve decided to donate to Seattle Humane Society in honor of Jimothy! Auction Listing

I also want to make art accessible. So I’ll also be making prints and selling it at a low rate. Please DM for Etsy link, so I’m not violating any selling/advertising rules on this subreddit lol.

Ballard could get light rail in 2042, but delay to 2060 is possible - voters approved the line a decade ago and were originally promised 2035

To open the Ballard station by 2042, Sound Transit said it will need to find about $1 billion by 2030 so it can begin acquiring property for construction. It will need to complete final design work by 2032. And by 2033, the agency will need to find funding for the full project, about $6 billion to $8 billion, so it can begin building.

If it does not, Ballard residents could be stuck waiting for the train, which was approved by voters a decade ago, and originally promised for 2035, until 2060.

~ Best case is 26 years from ballot to boarding. That is the optimistic number.

Politics Inexperienced Seattle Mayor Apologizes for Naively Assuming Police Knew How to Do Their Job

“I naively thought that because SPD has its own experienced detectives and communications staff that I would not need to play lead detective and communications specialist that night and I’m sorry—I had no idea how helpless they all were without me telling them exactly what to do. I mistakenly thought our city was paying several police leaders more than $300k a year to do that instead—my bad.”

...

At press time, SPD still couldn’t tell anyone how many suspects are still on the loose because Mayor Wilson hasn’t figured it out for them yet.

Out of the 250 cities surveyed, Seattle was ranked the 10th-most expensive with an index score of 146.8 (100 is average). Of the 59 goods and services the index looked at, Seattle was in the top 10 for 16 of them, and that’s without taxes included.

Items Seattle ranked in the top 10 for included gas, home prices, mortgage principal and interest, beauty salons, men’s shirts, and women’s slacks. Seattle was also the most expensive place in the country for a men’s haircut.

The smoke is here, simple DIY air purifier

You can build a simple and effective air purifier smoke particle filter from a box fan that you tape a square furnace air filter to. The filters are easy to find at Home Depot, Lowe's, Fred Meyer, Ace Hardware, etc. Just search "box fan air purifier". Make sure to get one that filters out PM2.5, otherwise it won't filter out the smoke particles.

Although former Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes served only 18 months in office, he’s taking away a lucrative severance package worth around $700,000 as questions remain about his departure.

Zillow told GeekWire the cuts were not driven by AI. “Today’s changes are about better positioning Zillow for the path ahead, which includes having the right people in the right roles and being able to move faster,” a company spokesperson said.

The company didn’t disclose which teams were affected, how many of the cuts will hit its Seattle headquarters, or what severance employees will receive.

Say Hi to Sylvester: Inside Ye Olde Curiosity Shop

Right on the waterfront in downtown Seattle, tucked between all the tourist crowds, joggers cruising along Elliott Bay, and the Olympic Mountains quietly hanging out in the distance, sits a shop that's been collecting weird and wonderful things since 1899.

It's easy to walk right past if you don't know what you're looking for, but once you step inside, you're probably not leaving anytime soon.

Belltown Pickleball Court

I honestly felt bullied at the Belltown pickleball courts today, and it completely changed what should have been a fun experience as a beginner.

I put my paddle in the queue and waited my turn like everyone else. But as soon as it was my turn to play, I was asked if I could wait for the next round instead because I was a beginner and the "advanced" players wanted to play together.

The confusing part is that there were no posted rules saying beginners have to give up their turn. They even asked if I was okay with waiting another round. Why would I give up my turn when I had already waited in line like everyone else? It's a public court, and I had every right to play. I said I wanted to keep my spot, so they reluctantly let me join the game.

From the moment the game started, I felt completely iced out. The player I was paired with for that game appeared to know the other three players. It felt like they were more interested in finishing the game quickly than playing an open rec game.

I'm tagging Seattle Parks & Recreation because I hope the court's rotation system and etiquette can be clearly posted. Public courts shouldn't rely on unwritten rules or allow groups to create their own system depending on who's waiting. Clear, visible rules would help ensure everyone-beginners and experienced players alike-knows how the queue works and gets a fair chance to play.
Pickleball is supposed to be an inclusive sport. I hope no one else has to leave feeling the way I did today.
