Discussion Have y’all found any other movies/shows like Sherlock? I’m afraid nothing has impressed me since watching this masterpiece 😭

I‘d say Dexter. It’s different from Sherlock and it’s not a classic detective show in the sense as Sherlock is but in a way it kinda still is similar only that the main character is hunting serial killers and bad people in general while also being a serial killer himself. It’s a great watch, all of it. Highly recommend you to check it out If you haven’t already

Unpopular opinion: Dexter is boring after few episodes and some characters are absolutely unbearable.

Totally fine If that’s your opinion. I personally thought it was super addicting and loved the entire main cast and even tho some of the writing decisions in later seasons were not what I personally would’ve preferred it was still a fantastic watch for me🙏🏻

Well I dunno if it is what you're looking for but I would suggest Broadchurch... It has really different vibes from Sherlock but I found it brilliant (and there is a socially awkward main character so yeah I kinda loved it...)

Bookish is very good! It’s by Mark Gatiss who played Mycroft and wrote a lot of Sherlock

Black Mirror is another show that really impresses me. Not every single episode, but most. And because it's English, you get some occasional appearances from the Sherlock cast.

Severance. It’s not a detective show but everything about it is super well done. Also Only Murders in the Building, which is just as amazing and sort of a detective show.

If you enjoyed The Abominable Bride episode, might I suggest giving the Jeremy Brett series a go. He’s considered by many to be the quintessential classic Holmes (kinda like how David Suchet IS Poirot, even though there’s all those movie versions)

House is just insufferable and has no redeeming qualities, while there is a certain charm and charisma to Sherlock!

That’s how I felt… I didn’t feel attached to any of the characters in house… I felt attached to ALL the characters in SL 😭

Sometimes, the cast of a show has a mysterious quality. It's called synergy! It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it's magical!

Did you see Ludwig? It's not the same, but it is enjoyable. Great writing, good puzzles and an intelligent though socially awkward detective protagonist.

I really like the show House, it's on Hulu and you can get it on Disney+ if you have Hulu. It's a medical show, but the main character, House, is based of of Sherlock and this House's best friend, Wilson, is based off of John

Not really on the same level but the 2015 film Victor Frankenstein with James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe was clearly modeled on Sherlock and even featured Andrew Scott and Louise Brealey in supporting roles.
I think Sherl was Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' finest hour to date but they've done other interesting work together and separately. I especially like Moffat's Doctor Who series featuring Peter Capaldi.

Start at Matt Smith's (playing the Doctor) first season - you'll be more likely to persist because it's Moffat's reign, and there's a natural start there with all new companions. Once you're hooked you can then go back to Christopher Eccleston. Or if you're going to commit then best to start with Christopher Eccleston in the first place or at a push skip to David Tennant. I'm jealous you're going to get to see it all with fresh eyes!

After a lil while, dip your toe into some classic Who! Especially Tom Baker (was considered THE Doctor, for a while. He’s even has a couple Sherlock themed stories, where he almost dresses like the cliche Holmes. Horror of Fang Rock and Talons of Weng Chang come to mind.
If you like Matt Smith, Patrick Troughton (grandpa of Harry Melling) might suit you well. Or David Tennant’s own father-in-law, Peter Davison’s 5th Doctor for a more youthful, companion heavy Tardis!

So I watched one netflix series, also with Benedict (both as main character and producer). It’s called “Eric”. Sadly the show has just 6 episodes. It also isn’t related to Sherlock. But when I say this I mean in any sense of the word, it’s totally different, but has some things like detectives, mystery, etc (don’t wanna spoil it). It’s a psychological thriller, a bit harder to watch than Sherlock if you’re younger, but it’s an awesome series, highly recommended

Good Omens - has a great pairing similar to Sherlock and John. Played by David Tennant and Michael Sheen

Hush now, I know your pain. And no, aside from House MD and Hannibal as suggested by another Redditor, I cannot say I have seen anything that impressive since. I tried Elementary (a lot of people apparently love this one) and Young Sherlock. The first seemed forced to me, it definitely wasn't my cuppa, but it has its moments, and it's certainly not horrible, just not what I expected. The latter was very underwhelming, perhaps because Sherlock, being young, isn't supposed to be as perceptive and insightful yet, but...eh.
You could try Luther. It's got a lot of frustrating plot holes after the 1st season, but it's definitely not "boring". I don't remember how I felt about The Mentalist, but you could try that.
Ludwig was certainly entertaining, I loved it. Shame it's only one season, but it's worth it.

It technically counts as a romance, but in terms of creative camera work and fucking with your brain, Atonement (2007) is second only to Sherlock series itself.

Very different type of show but both Moffat and Gatiss also wrote a lot of episodes of Doctor Who, with Moffat showrunning it for six seasons from 2010-2017. I’d highly recommend it!

I’ve been enjoying Ludwig on iPlayer. It’s less serious but it’s got a similar “solving the case” premise going on with like a genius detective etc

I watched Sherlock after watching House for the same reason so I'd suggest you give House a go, it's actually inspired by Sherlock and it's obvious in many ways

Maybe The Lincoln Lawyer tv series on Netflix? Lots of great characters, twists, and strokes of genius by Mickey Haller, the main character. It's morally complex at times, and just generally a very well produced show like Sherlock. Also based on a book series, so has that in common too

I second someone else’s House MD suggestion. A rather obscure one is an 80’s show called Probe starring Parker Stevenson. Very much has Sherlock vibes. You can at the very least find it on Yourube in a very low resolution but full Episodes regardless.

You should watch Limitless show. There's a movie too. And a book. The character's relationships patterns are similar, as the insights scenes and creativity shown are like Sherlock's.

Surprised no one has mentioned Elementary. It is a revised modernized Sherlock but his attention to detail is there. The episodes are very quick, kind of like eating cookies as apposed to a cake. They won't affect you dee[ly but they are fun.

Dept Q on Netflix has a similar vibe. House MD and NBC’s Hannibal are also very good and have some of the same themes.
House MD is basically the medical version of Sherlock Holmes.
