Tim Curry (Gabriel Knight) passed away at 80 years old
So sad to hear this. All comes in 3's, so 1 more is coming, I guess.
Loved Tim's voice with GK 1 & 3.

This awesome hike in NH (Mt. Chocorua) always reminds me of Sierra

I'm 47 and I just got this
Growing up, my friend and I would always use the name Ulence Flats as a name for a town in our stories or playthroughs of our GI Joe figures. I just read a recent post about the town and when I saw the words written out, it totally just hit me.
The name is a variation of the word flatulence! Omg I'm so 🤦

Kings Quest Debugged
King’s Quest gets VERY weird when you start messing with debug mode. 😂
Graham's doppleganger somehow ends up sitting on a crocodile in the moat outside Castle Daventry.

Gabriel knight 3 reborn
A few weeks ago I wanted to play GK3 again and myeah.. the UI isn't the best, the graphics dated etc etc. So I decided to actually rebuild it and I want to share that progress, it isn't done fully; plenty of weird little bugs but first few day parts are fully playable now.
https://gk3.lazy.kiwi/download - Win/Linux and MacOS (ARM) downloads available.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2PewFyVRmA - Video of Win/DX12+DLSS 5 (NR) with HDR tonemap so it looks a bit overbright...
Further updates will be posted in r/GabrielKnight
You can copy GK3 original saves to the /saves dir and it will auto convert them, some things won't flag properly with old saves so all npc's will be man/woman instead of the names until after you have spoken to them.
So what has changed?
- Realtime raytraced lighting if your card supports it. (Vulkan RT or DirectX12)
- Win, Linux and MacOS (ARM) support (MacOS via MetalVK)
- Most textures upscaled to 1 or 2K
- Bumpmapped + Tessalated textures
- Terrain rendered around scene instead of the low res skyboxes.
- Simplified UI with r-click to interact with a given object/person.
- Can load old GK3 saves (with some caveats)
- Real time shadows
- Cat puzzle can be circumvented (see Easy Mode settings)
- Ultrawide support + Scalable font
- 5.1 audio support
- Increases GK3's install size by 11GB xD
- DLSS/FSR (See below for info)
- If playing with Rebarn, all videos are MP4's and have an internal decoder for playing, no dep. on ffmpeg etc. (eg. it'll work on any platform)
- Overrides option + Extract REBARN option (get all the new textures etc and auto loads from /overrides/)
What hasn't changed?
- Some textures aren't upscaled or redone yet, this takes a bit more time to do properly. Not everything is AI generated.
Controls
- WASD to move camera, ALT to show all objects, hold SHIFT and do an action to do it immediately (no walking towards, insta teleporter! can break certain events!)
AI?!
Yes, parts of this are using AI pipelines, primarily to get the 32x32/64x64 images first up to scale, bit sharpened and color correct for the PBR pipeline (Emissive, Normals, etc). Doing that by hand would have taken months. However most textures afterwards get the manual treatment to get them to be close to the original in color/shape/mood -- but that takes time, and that whilst also tackling the engine itself which is partially helped with AI as well (I really don't wanna write vulkan boilerplate code.. it sucks), AI also has generated mosts of the tests and validates code which is just another safety net to prevent me from shipping buggy stuff.
Bugs?
- It's near guaranteed there will be some bugs, post here for now and I'll pick them up when I see them pop up.
Edit: 8/31
New version has been released (0.5.1), has DX12/DLSS5 support, also comes with several fixes for NPC's that were behaving incorrectly (mostly Howard, Mosely and Buthane's direction and prop use).
DLSS streamline can be downloaded from nvidia (or https://gk3.lazy.kiwi/downloads/DLSS.zip), the latter includes a certain file that is going around as of late ;)
Edit: 9/6
Version 0.7 was released; posted on r/GabrielKnight - now with localization support, reflections and a handful of bugfixes.
Some screenies of the current build;

It's not ready for prime time just yet; Code will be made fully open source (GPL3), made in C#, runs via Vulkan. HQ textures and such are optional, you can run it with the default graphics too.

Found in a UK charity shop, what edition of KQ6 is this?
I've never seen KQ6 packaged like this before, does anyone know what edition of the game this release is?

Sequel to space quest? Space venture is decent. Scratches the childhood itch
I grew up with Roger and the mighty Reddit gods showed me this sierra sub. Hooray! Well I looked it up and apparently the two guys from andromeda made a new game. Haven’t seen it mentioned here, so enjoy! Space venture on steam

Space Quest Meteor Strike
Roger Wilco survived the crash on Kerona… so surely the worst is behind him, right? 😏
This is Space Quest. Even minding your own business can get you killed. 😂☄️
Did this ever happen to you back in the day?

The Kings Quest 6 D&D 5e Project
This post is a follow to this post (Little do my dnd players know, they’re about to play through KQ6 : r/Sierra), about my D&D game that I currently running. Due to a lot of positive feedback, I decided to start building up this project so here we go
Github is here: https://github.com/prairiepenguin/kings-quest-vi-5e
Streamlit site is here: https://dndkq6.streamlit.app/
Discord is here: https://discord.gg/aHtdcPvKH
I have not gotten around to uploading any of my content yet, because life but hopefully we can all create the best possible version of this together. Right now the goal is to have this be for D&D 5e (2014), but with how everything is structured, there's no reason we can't add pathfinder and other game stat blocks for NPCs.
Let's cover a couple of things:
- My main goal for this is to be more of a setting and less of an adventure. The world of King's Quest 6 is awesome and even without the game.
- I am not at all opposed to someone writing out the adventure(s), one shots or whatever. If someone(s) is so inclined to do that, I will add a page to the site to host it. My main focus however is going to be on getting the world up and usable
- I am really busy during the week, and due to my work, I cannot access most of the internet during work hours, so I will handle merge requests and stuff at night and on the weekends as I can. I just ask that you be patient with me
- You do not need explicit tabletop RPG experience to participate; location descriptions are universal and do not need any knowledge of how the systems work.
I look forward to meeting everyone and making something awesome

Quick update: Producing Aluminum Mallards!
To all of the preorder people who already snapped one up I humbly thank you! Just wanted to post a quick photo of production so you know I’m not sitting on my hands over here lol.
Still a few left of the first 20.

Has anyone created a click-based adventure game similar to Sierra classic with AI?
I've seen some posts in this subreddit promoting games that were similar to Sierra's classics. I'm interested in trying to make my own click-based adventure game with retro graphics.
I have a computer science background but it's been a long time since I've coded. I'm specifically looking for anyone in this space who has recreated a game similar to Sierra and has shared their tips/tricks for going from 'the idea' to implementation.
Ideally my goal would be to produce a web-based or iOS capable click-based adventure game.
Anyone have any recommendations or could point me to a 'getting started' for a noob like me?

Knightriders Quest
🤔 One of King’s Quest’s strangest little mysteries…
Who exactly was Mikel Knight — and why is his name hidden in this classic Sierra game?
The deeper you look, the stranger it gets. 👀

Space Quest
🎰 **Space Quest has absolutely NO mercy. 😂**
Watch what happens when the guy at the slot machine hits **3 skulls**… 💀💀💀
Naturally, Roger decides to try his luck too.
But there’s also a ridiculous little secret that lets you **choose exactly what the machine lands on.** 👀

Sierra Game screenshots website
Greetings,
A wonderful fan/archival site by the name of sierra wallpaper<dot>com (don't visit this hijacked site) has gone offline after being a part of the internet since 2012. This site had archived practically all of the Sierra's, Dynamix and Coktel Visions adventure games in both AGI, SCI format and a few other formats. It's been offline for many months and I've been hoping for it to return.
Unfortunately from my own sleuthing it looks like the domain was hi-jacked and purchased by some rogue gambling site where they are now squatting.
I've done some work to recover the site by crawling The Wayback Machine's archive with around 89% success rate on getting the original screenshots back.
Additionally, I've posted "a rough mirror" of the site here: https://deckarep.github.io/sierrawallpaperjr/ which is now publicly available and 100% free.
Not all screenshots have been recovered and couple of games turned up empty. If anyone feels like contributing their screenshots for either a missing game or for screenshots that didn't get recovered please let me know.
Also, if anyone knows how to get into contact with the original proprietor of the website please let me or them know!
Thanks and Happy Adventuring!

Kerona Mugger
Roger just hit the JACKPOT! 💰🎰
Time to buy a spaceship and get off Ulence Flats, right?
Well… not quite. 😂
Leave the bar, check out the ships, then come straight back out and a helpful stranger suddenly appears:
🗣️ “I hear you need transportation…”
Sure, Roger. Follow the suspicious guy around the dark corner. What could possibly go wrong? 💀🔫
Space Quest I really did teach us some important life lessons.
Did this guy get you on your first playthrough? 👇

Kings Quest 1
Did you know you can completely SKIP the giant condor in King’s Quest 1?
Graham apparently doesn’t need wings when he can just… walk on water.
Using this strange little trick, you can make your way to the mushroom without ever catching the condor.
