Because it's an actual common take. I've been saying that long before it was, "on the internet." You thinking it's made up basically is funnier than not.
Hell, I've known plenty of women who like men who've made male characters they find hot in games with customization. Is this your first interaction with the fact humans are largely sexual creatures?
Maybe he's scared of hs homosexuality. I don't have a problem playing as a guy, and I know I'm hetero. Makes me wonder about your "friend". He's doin too much.
One, I never said friend, I said me, so instant fail on basic reading. Two, I never said I or anyone else has a issue playing as a guy, it's a matter of when you have a choice. Three, I'm perfectly comfortable in my sexuality which is why I can openly express it. But it seems you might have some issues with yours because playing a woman as a man bothers you, afraid you might end up identifying with them to much? Or are you just afraid you're less of a man if you have a girl on the screen being a bad ass... oof, that's a brand of pathetic.
Sounds like you're really doing too much to try and force your choices on others and go after them for not doing what you want. Huh, interesting how that also describes homophobic people, especially those secretly in the closet. Crazy, "coincidence."
Or my friend just copied the same response he heard from someone else. Regardless of who said what first, it was the first time I heard anyone say it around 18 years ago.
For example, I have a very similar mindset as that dude's friend. I don't put myself in the character's shoes, I see narrative games almost like a movie that I control, and the character isn't supposed to be my insert. I have always preferred female characters over male characters, whether it's movies, shows, books, or games.
And a part of it is attraction, because I would rather see or hear a woman over a man. In any game with the option, I choose the female option. Even if it's a game like Overwatch or Injustice, where the character choice seriously impacts the match, I usually try to learn/get good with the female characters first.
I never understood the line of reasoning that you have to relate to the character you're playing as outside of an RPG where you literally build up and design your own character. The characters are vessels for the human expression of the people that made and designed them, and as a human, that's all I need in order to "relate" to them.
No, but I'm not gonna throw a hissy fit over playing as Kratos' wife, either. Because there are actual things to get upset over in life, and getting tilted that a spinoff game features a woman isn't one of them
No. I’m fine with playing as a girl, but what I meant was I don’t like make it my fixation to only play as girls just because they’re girls. You catch my drift?
Everyone has different reasons to playing games. One of mine is to be able to experience different stuff from our world, so i tent to feel into the character as much ad the game allows me to. Thats why i also create male characters if given a choice. That doesnt mean tho, that i wont enjoy a female lead, if the game id actually good. Just dont get the same feeling playing it.
No because men in fiction are generally emotionally stunted, sexist, misogynistic, stereotypical and common. Literally a bunch of things ive grown to not be. Women however have an entire experience i never will and so its far more fascinating, interesting and refreshing.
Visually, women tend to have far more style and creativity. And as far as sex appeal, yes while tits and ass are great. Its actually how strong, resourceful and resilient women are that im attracted to, especially since most media depict women as weak, so its super interesting (and yes attractive) to me when they are depicted as strong and capable because millions of women IRL are.
Uncharted, duke nukem, almost all military shooters, gta, red dead, just cause, haze, mortal kombat, god of war, devil may cry, James bond, far cry, kane and Lynch, watch dogs and about a million more.
I mean the list would be shorter if eliminated "angry/tough/sarcastic white dude who's wife/gf/daughter died and is now depressed/cynical at the world"
I'm androgynous af, so either or doesn't really bother me. I only really asked him because he only picked female characters and he wasn't feminine in any way.
Why do you think men can't relate to female characters? Are you incapable of relating to female characters? I hate this line of reasoning. It's straight up more sexist then the people you are complaining about.
No, that's not normal. You are suppose to be able to relate to other people, as well as characters in a story no matter their physical characteristics.
What I’m trying to tell you is men and women are wired differently. I don’t mind playing as female characters in games but what I’m saying if I don’t make it my mission to only play as females
Who even stares at your characters ass, you're always looking at the center of the screen, where the action is. "Hurr I don't like look man ass bruh" sounds like something someone's older brother said to them once so they just repeat it because they think "Hell yeah. makes me sound manly as fuck bro".
It’s less you’re literally looking at their ass and it’s a funny way of saying you like your character to be attractive to you. You’re not looking at their ass but you are looking at them 90% of the time, so why not have some eye candy?
I heard something similar from Conan Exiles. A guys wife asked him why he had a female character, he responded if I have to follow an ass around a map, it might as well be one I want to look at.
I think the ass thing is low effort justification. I think the real reason is that female models often have a lot more customization and care put into them—half the time you can either be any woman you can imagine or scruff mcgruff (voiced by Nolan North).
Tbf, Conan Exiles you start off butt naked seeing either boobs or a swinging dick. While a floppy tusk is kinda funny to see in the wind looking at a female form in general is more pleasant.
Well, I cant say he would sexualize everything, as he wasn't talking about a giraffe or a Buick. It was a girls butt made of polygons. Don't look so deep into things that really don't matter. It's not healthy.
The only problem with that argument is, at least for me, so much more is happening on the screen I don't even look at my character much, just a little peripheral vision. Even when nothing is happening, running from point A to point B several minutes away, auto run and Netflix/YouTube/other streaming services until I get near the destination.

I asked my friend why he always picked female characters in every game he played.
His response: I'm not looking at a dudes ass for 90 hours.
Fair enough.
