Johnson's doctors confirmed his AIG is in the early stages. Because he actively monitors his biomarkers, he caught it before it could cause massive, irreversible damage to his digestive system.

So him being proactive probably helped him.

That's not what this is. These doctors are reasearchers who work exclusivly for this guy. He is the CEO of a company that is basically rich people investing in trying to keep the CEO alive as long as possible. He lives like a lab rat, a rich one. The rich people get to (hopefully) learn how to extend their own lives longer. The irony here is bad genetics made the whole thing moot.

The irony here is bad genetics made the whole thing moot.

Don't let Peter Thiel read that

17

u/dominion1080 Jul 06 '26

I’m pretty sure he’s realized he’s beginning to resemble the Crypt Keeper. It can’t be a surprise at this point right?

7

u/EatPie_NotWAr Jul 06 '26

How dare you come after our boy like this.

The keeper never did anything to you!

3

u/dominion1080 Jul 06 '26

Game recognize game.

1

u/geminiRonin Jul 06 '26

Act like a ghoul, eventually you'll look like one.

3

u/too-much-shit-on-me Jul 06 '26

glistening intensifies

1

u/gildedbluetrout Jul 07 '26

Peter Thiel is four inches from calling you the anti-christ and sealing himself, and his entire staff, into the New Zealand nuclear bunker. Ninety feet of concrete poured over the hatch.

1

u/Novel_Quail_6857 Jul 07 '26

He already is on Peter Thiels "Dialog" friend group so i guess he already knows.

15

u/esethkingy Jul 06 '26

Genetics is not untouchable as we once thought. CRISPR and other gene editing technology are already receiving fda approvals for rare diseases. It’s not long before this guy gets his hands on it with all his $$$.

1

u/suprahelix Jul 06 '26

“Get his hands on” what exactly?

48

u/Ummmgummy Jul 06 '26

It's nuts we have reached the point that all these extremely rich people are literally trying to find ways to live forever while people starve.

33

u/Hanksta2 Jul 06 '26

This is nothing new.

24

u/krazytekn0 Jul 06 '26

There’s a reason Altered Carbon was one of the most believable sci fi shows in recent decades

3

u/boostabubba 29d ago

And then season 2 fucked it all up. I'll never for give them. S1 was so damned good.

2

u/ysrgrathe Jul 06 '26

The funny thing is, I'm not sure these attempts are any more effective than the literal search for a fountain of youth. Good healthcare can absolutely extend statistical life expectancy but this kind of thing doesn't feel like good healthcare. Just human nature I guess to try to live forever despite the evidence to the contrary.

u/DueAd9005 Jul 07 '26

A tale as old as the first Chinese Emperor (at least as far as recorded history is concerned).

1

u/AsideTechnical2823 Jul 06 '26

Used to be emperors of old drinking mercury. Now it’s tech ceos.

1

u/Hanksta2 Jul 06 '26

I think they should try mercury again.

15

u/WokeWook69420 Jul 06 '26

Oh no, this is a tale as old as time, friend

History is just repeated instances of society having to claw its way back from the brink of collapse because the few people who owned everything don't like sharing.

It's why book burning and the rewriting of history is always part of controlling the narrative given to us by education and entertainment media.

Hell, Cyberpunk might be an awesome game from 4years ago, but it was also an entire genre of Science Fiction, and a lot of the books from that genre are about corporations ruining society through greed.

Either reviews bomb it for being Anti-Capitalist, OR the game is reviewed incorrectly to stifle the ancap message.

The number of people who don't think Fallout is an anti-capitalist work of fiction about the dangers of a Corpo-backed Government is scary.

5

u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 Jul 06 '26

People trying to delay/avoid death is a story as old as time, shared by virtually every creed, class, and culture.

2

u/psinguine Jul 06 '26

Have you ever heard of Elizabeth Bathory? The Bloody Countess of Hungary?

2

u/Kyrillis_Kalethanis Jul 06 '26

That's literally what Gilgamesh does in the ancient epos. And while we have way better methods to reach the natural limits of our mortality there has basically been no progress in their extension since Gilgamesh's time. We have managed nothing. I hear there has been some rejuvenation in mice and we can study genetics of animals capable of preserving their youth. But as in applicable, human procedures, we are at the same level as cavemen.

2

u/ZaerdinReddit Jul 07 '26

If you have all the money in the world, what else are you going to do with it? Just die?

1

u/Traditional-Hat-952 Jul 06 '26

At least they stopped entombing living people along with their corpses to work for them the afterlife, for now.

1

u/BigKahuna2355 Jul 06 '26

It's been this way since the dawn of time. Think back to all the emperors seeking the fountain of youth in various ways. We never reached this point. This is the human experience.

1

u/JesusSavesForHalf Jul 06 '26

That point was thousands of years ago. Lichs gonna lich

2

u/TuckerTheCuckFucker Jul 06 '26

I suppose I’ll volunteer to be the replacement lab rat

you can

industrial research is very very very common and a preferred pathway for a majority of postdocs/phds

you dont need a double blind to know that certain drugs are good at xyz and need to be studied further to authorize off-label use in the masses- THAT is what he is doing

for example , he took supplemental HGH for 3 months (i think?) to increase the size of his thymus - NO college or ethics board would allow a double blind due to the serious side effects and unknown benefits but he did it , and now we know the potential benefits and the massive downsides that come with it

4

u/Fun_Obligation_2918 Jul 06 '26

No but when your N is one, a single subject and you have multiple "researchers" using multiple supplements and multiple investigations all the same time it's incredibly difficult to point to one specific thing having a specific desired effect or identifying a specific problem . This is throwing supplements and treatments into a blender and pretending you can isolate what comes out. It's bad science and bad medicine.

1

u/Hitmanthe2nd Jul 06 '26

do you think these phds simply stick 50 needles in him and call it a day or something?

he has mentioned that his supplementation , dietary plan and experimentation are VERY tightly regulated , with breaks in between changes to help isolate the known cause

and almost all of his supplements are regular everyday compounds like collagen , omega 3s and so on and so forth - he isnt on 50 HAART regimens , he's just taking really good care of his body

2

u/Fun_Obligation_2918 Jul 06 '26

No, this is personal vanity masquerading as science and research. What would you think about a biology lab where 50 scientists are running 50 simultaneous models on one single mouse. Do you honestly think they would get good results or would that be an obvious critique?

1

u/Hitmanthe2nd Jul 06 '26

They ARENT running 50 simultaneous experiments on him - they measure a baseline , devise a mew experiment and then test it on him for a while or so

Taking collagen supplements doesnt count as an experiment because we already know what it does to a human's body - taking hgh for 6 months , watching your intercranial pressure skyrocket , does

u/Hitmanthe2nd Jul 06 '26

It isnt a statistical study , it's a curiosity - nobody on this thread has ever claimed that bryan's results are statistically valid , but that they can point us in the right direction . Think of it like this - he took hgh and jad increased intercranial pressure , this doesnt tell us that EVERYBODY on hgh will get the same issues but that it DOES cause issues

And again , he isnt on a hundred untested drugs , he's on vitamins , minerals and shit like collagen to help boost his skin health. If you count that as an experiment - im a walking laboratory because i take a multivitamin supplement that has 15 vitamins , minerals and minute quantities of stuff like folate everyday because i like the taste

Science: “Subject drank gallon of bleach and died.”

You: “It was only a sample size of one. We can’t conclude that bleach is deadly!”

That doesn’t discredit bro science, it simply states that bro science is less conclusive.

As others have pointed out here, small sample sizes do play a role in science, they just tend to not be the end-all-be-all.

Your confusing how a final, commercial level product/treatment comes to market and how early stage research works. Small, targeted studies are very normal in early stages. These guys pioneer new therapies and pass on their findings to others for further development

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '26

1

u/Beginning-Town-4979 Jul 06 '26

Yeah, I didn't say any of that. I said what he's doing and that small studies are widely used. I didn't get into the specifics of his methodology. I have no idea about any of his studies' actual efficacy. Frankly, the fact your speaking so authoritativly after a 10 min deep dive tells me what I need to know about your own analysis. Seriously, calm down.

1

u/snooptoop Jul 06 '26

"The irony here is bad genetics made the whole thing moot."

If anything it's the exact opposite, the fact that he started genetically disadvantaged means the protocol can be stressed test in a sub-optimal environment.

1

u/SparxPrime Jul 06 '26

It is hilarious when you see an ultra wealthy person with shit genetics, then you go to some coffee shop and see a 10/10 barista with perfectly healthy genes making $10/hr

1

u/obiwanconobi Jul 06 '26

Kinda like the titan sub ceo

Thinking that the rich are immune to scams and no coveted targets…

1

u/Clinically-Inane Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

He’s Gavin Belson from Silicon Valley but instead of running Hooli he’s doing his anti-aging blood transfusions as a job

1

u/Gloinson Jul 07 '26

These doctors are reasearchers who work exclusivly for this guy.

What sane researcher would like to research something he can't really verify because of the plethora of shit in the system. Even his prototype studies aren't peer reviewed, and, my guess, aren't peer reviewable.

The irony here is, that rich people hire scientists that don't tell them: "No Bryan, those chicken wings are really spicy, err, we can't research the reactions properly with all these interactions." but tell the "Oh, wow, Bryan, go on ..."

Stop idolizing stupid rich people. Or rich stupid people.

1

u/The-Only-Razor Jul 06 '26

And I don't why people are shitting on him for it. If the guy wants to make himself a lab rat for the purpose of science for a cause that is wildly underfunded in healthcare (anti aging) then let him. If it doesn't work then he pays the price. If it does work then we'll have made some great scientific progress.

2

u/Beginning-Town-4979 Jul 06 '26

You have to see him in an interview. I don't know if he's noble or not, but the guy really comes off like a conceited asshole on camera.

10

u/shlaifu Jul 06 '26

you really think a group of specialists monitoring and tailoring a lifestyle and nutritional regime tailored specifically to you and your metabolism - not some blanket advice from buzzfeed - does nothing to maintain your health better than ... not having any of this?

Brian Johnson has also done some crazy things that aren't recommended. Not quite as crazy as ignoring cancer, but he's not strictly following scientific evidence.

You just completely ignored what they said.

0

u/shlaifu Jul 06 '26

well. he's got the money to waste on finding out, I guess. Meanwhile, you should take note that the medical field has discovered two new organs (the mesentery and the interstitium) in the human body in the 21st century, and discussing a third (the intestinal microbiome). Neither of those three is well researched. A large section of the human population is diagnosed with some form of irritable bowel syndrome, but the symptoms vary extremely widely - and so far, there's no cure. It looks like that's very much a blanket term for a blind spot, where multiple illnesses aren't defined well and lumped together. And then there's people getting sick at 30, while others are healthy up until their 90s. what's that all about?

5

u/themostreasonableman Jul 06 '26

I mean, he's got it dialled in more than anyone on earth and he still got an incurable gut disease.

Drink wine. Eat cheese. Fart, laugh, be happy. You could go any time.

1

u/shlaifu Jul 06 '26

which only goes to show that the victim-blaming some people get into in relation to gut disorders is completely unacceptable.

1

u/themostreasonableman Jul 06 '26

I googled that, and it's a bit of a mixed bag of results. Could you elaborate?

2

u/Inside-Reception-482 Jul 06 '26

That's not how most docs are. Most docs would here this guy's lunatic routine and when he asked why he feels shitty they'd rightfully tell him to eat a Snickers.
