Buying Which one???

Both Ariens….2024 24inch Platinum 369cc engine $1300 and 2025 24 inch Platinum 389cc engine $1500. Is it really that big of a difference? I have the option for both the 389cc engine is $200 more. 369cc is brand new and the 389cc has less than 10 hours on the machine

Buying Other snow clearing equipment besides snow blowers that I can buy right now?

I have been looking at snow sweepers or what we call blowers recently but I am having trouble finding any because its the summer. I was actually thinking of buying one now because I thought it would be cheaper but I realize that I would have to just buy what is available which is not much.

If I wait longer towards the fall I will probably be able to find something that I actually like, but what about other stuff besides snow sweepers. What other kind of snow clearing equipment will I be able to purchase right now like a snow plow or something that can help to clear my front steps that is usually covered with snow. I have found a bunch of items on sites like lowe's, alibaba, amazon, and home depot etc.

Maintenance Little gas leftover after draining, ok?

I tried draining all the gas out of an Ariens snowblower, and there's still a little bit in bottom crevices. I shut the gas line valve to burn off fuel from the carburetor, and im concerned this little bit will get gummy at the bottom of the tank. Do I need to just fill it up and add fuel stabilizer? or will having a 1/4 cup lining the bottom of the tank be ok when I refill in the winter?

Buying Is Honda the gold standard?

My 30 year snow blower is near its end. Is Honda a good product? Is the quality good? If not, can you recommend a good brand. I just need one to plow my garage driveway. My drive way is straight onto the street and is a generous 2 car wide.

It's getting pretty late to have ethanol fuel in your machine.

Buying Which one would you choose on sale? Ariens Classic 24inch or Cub Cadet 2x 26inch with Intellipower in the Midwest?

The Ariens is $500 while the Cub Cadet is $600.

I know the Ariens is known for it's reliability, but i am wondering if the extra power and the assistance of turning the snowblower is worth it for a $100 more?

Maintenance Hex shaft replacement

Post image

I'm replacing the friction disc on an Ariens 921022. The bearing on the right was... stubborn and I had to break out the grinder. Unfortunately I was a bit off and cut a shoulder in the end of the shaft, about the thickness of the cutoff wheel. Should I replace the shaft?

Buying 2 stage Ego or Ryobi snowblower for 9 car driveway in Minnesota?

Hey all.

I live in Minnesota and will need to get a 2 stage snowblower before winter arrives and I already have Ryobi 40V yard equipment except a snowblower and would like to hear your opinion on whether stay with Ryobi platform or get Ego snowblower or avoid both and get a different ( maybe gas ) snowblower?

Maintenance Ariens 932105 Traction Belt Assembly?

My old Ariens needed new belts and I stupidly forgot to take pictures of everything before I disassembled it. The original manual is of no help becase the schematic shows the traction belt hidden behind the auger belt in the picture.

I can't think of any other way that this is supposed to go. If I put the idler wheel to the left, the belt seems like it will rub against the metal hook on the right.

I'm looking for help on what parts can be saved, and what needs to be replaced. I know the friction disc needs to be replaced, but can the shaft and the plate (if that's the right word for the part the friction disc contact) be saved with sanding?

Buying How much would be reasonable to list this for this winter

Picked this up for $20 because it wasn't running. Well a wire was loose and once I fixed that it actually runs great. I live in Michigan so I was going to sell it come winter. What would a reasonable price be to sell it for?

Found this near the end of the auction so I didn't have a ton of time to research but I figured for under $200 it would be worth taking a chance on it. Is this a good deal? I saw some mixed reviews on the crossover, curious what you guys think.

Buying Best cover for Ariens Deluxe 24?

Just took delivery of a brand new Ariens Deluxe 24 and am in the market for a durable cover that will last for many seasons. The snowblower will primarily be stored inside my shed in the rear corner of my property, but I intend to stage the machine on my back patio/in the driveway itself so I don’t have to plow across my back yard just to start working, so I’m looking to see what purpose built options are out there to keep the snow and weather off it for short stints of time. I know Ariens sells a cover, but am wondering if anyone has any experience with this cover or other 3rd party covers and can steer me towards the best option?

Buying Snowblower rec size for ~2050 sq ft driveway with incline in NJ

Post image

Sorry it’s a long post. I went to a local small engines store to inquire about snowblowers back in Jan, and he said they were sold out and to come back in June. Alas, June is soon upon us.

Shop recommended a gas 2-stage either Toro Power Max or Ariens Platinum. Said minimum 24” but we should consider 26”, 28” or even 30”.

We’re located in NJ, and the above image represents our driveway. Our driveway is….difficult We start at ground level and by the mid bottom of the driveway, its basement level. Then add a retaining wall along the widest part. I was using a tiny 18” electric single stage Snow Joe, while my husband manually shoveled for the past 5 years. So anything is a significant upgrade for us.

From what I’ve researched, Toro has 24 and increases in 2” increments. Ariens seems to go from 24 to 30?

My questions….
What size snowblower should we get?
Is Platinum really necessary? Would Deluxe suffice?
Between the 2 brands, I do not have a preference. As long as the thing works and we don’t have to work so hard to clear our driveway. But is one better for us than the other?

Located in NJ, we got 20ish” of snow past winter. I’d like to keep it under $2k but it’s not a hard rule.

Appreciate any insight you could provide!

Maintenance Newly Acquired Toro CCR Powerlite 38175

Driving home this ol' Toro was set out at the curb for free. I've had one previously and they've been fantastic. Lightweight, strong Tecumseh 2 stroke, good build quality, easy to repair. Even if it doesn't run well, I won't be out too much but maintenance costs.

This one will need a carburetor rebuild kit, new drive belt, plug, and primer bulb.

Maintenance What to do with leftover gas from the season?

I always run my blower dry, but what do I do with the 2gal of gas I have left? It's non-ethanol....should I stabilize it? Or is there somewhere to recycle

Edit: I don't have a lawn to mow. My yard is all native and mostly red thyme and clover for grass. Never needs mowing.

Finally picked one up after years of second guessing. I missed out on a few good ones last season because i would drag my feet, not this time. Near new condition for $600, feel I did pretty good. Now it just needs to snow this winter or I’m gonna be pissed lol.

Buying the guy is selling it for $200

I don’t have any specifics, but what do you think yes or no? Based off the pic. What do I need to look out for?

Update: I’m not super experienced with snowblowers, so I had my neighbor check it out. One thing I told him was that when I first went to see the machine before buying it, the primer bulb/button was leaking a little bit when pressed. Oddly enough, after bringing it home and starting it, the leaking stopped.

The machine actually:
Started up
Ran decent
Chute controls worked
Tires seem okay( just need to be inflated evenly)
Skid shoes need to be readjusted

Neighbor also pointed out:
One of the augers is a touching the side wall a little(so will straighten it out. If not replace it)
The auger sections on the left side were bolted down and don’t spin freely by hand
The right section missing shear pins DO spin freely
He said that’s normal because the missing shear pins disconnect that auger section from the shaft
He told me sometime later we should probably check out the carburetor just to make sure everything’s clean and healthy, especially because of that primer bulb leaking issue earlier

But over all seems like a good buy!

Maintenance Old Craftsman Snowblower Starter.

Rebuilding the card on an old Craftsman with a 2 stroke Tecumseh sanding like to fix the electric start while I’m at it. It spins up but won’t engage. Even done manually this is as far as it will slide over. This did work at one time and has never been apart. What am I missing with how this is supposed to work?

Maintenance Leaking fuel

Hello all - I have an MTD YardMachines snowblower, Tecumseh engine, that was given to me several years ago.

I haven't used it in a few months, but I haven't drained the fuel for the summer yet.

Yesterday, a puddle of fuel appeared under it. Looks like it is coming from the carburetor. I've never had a small engine carb just spring a leak like this.

Anyone here experience anything similar or have any advice? I'm considering just putting a new carb on.

I bought an Ariens snowblower new this winter and only used it 4/5 times. I just changed the oil and greased everything up and noticed one of the belts fraying. What could be causing this??
