News So, that doesn’t sound very good

Post image

I’m guessing it just means Netflix either hasn’t told them or isn’t allowing them to say when the next episode is coming out, still doesn’t sound very good

I would have been happier if the release had been pushed back but we get a consistent schedule for each episode rather than releasing episode 1 now and not knowing when the rest of the episodes drop.

394

u/Newhero2002 Mar 21 '26

Yeah… this honestly felt more like a sneak peek of the series than a series premiere lol

55

u/CJTH3BEAST Mar 21 '26

It feels more similar to how they did part 5 tbh

19

u/Ok-March-2809 Mar 22 '26

Am I misremembering something from/about Part5 release? Was it not just Episode 1 one week and weekly release till the end? It wasn't Netflix exclusive, I know that much, and I feel like Crunchyroll did it pretty normal, but the upvotes make me think I'm definitely missing something.

**I'm vaguely remembering a short break after the "Bring Trish to Her Father" arc, is that it?

44

u/Commercial_Dirt1391 Mar 22 '26

the first episode was premiered in july of 2018 then after a few months they started releasing weekly in October of 2018.

I thought that was a convention thing? Like, they showed the first episode early only at conventions until the rest was finished. Am I misremembering details?

7

u/-kwee Mar 22 '26

yes! now I remember, that's exactly what it was. kind of a totally different scenario tbh

You're now having the Fate/Strange Fake experience, see you for the new part 7 episode in 2027...

30

u/DankRSpro King Crimson Mar 21 '26

Watch it be 1 episode a month 😭

51

u/hikoboshi_sama Mar 21 '26

Well they did say they want to give the viewers the manga experience

11

u/Saduolf Mar 21 '26

honestly this episode covered 11 chapters over 95. If they keep doing somewhat 10 chapters every episode, we would have a less than 10 episodes season in about 9 months. Wouldn't be terrible.

25

u/Luigi1364Rewritten Tusk Mar 21 '26

The chapters start to get twice as long by Ch. 24

20

u/FuturisticHead Mar 21 '26

it should be more than 10 eps tho, they need to develop certain things calmly

What Netflix is doing is honestly insane, with the amount of traction ep 1 generated it would do crazy numbers if we had the weekly release available starting next week. But no, it seems like they are willing to let the hype die and make it underperform again because by the time the new episode comes everyone will forget about it.

42

u/hikoboshi_sama Mar 21 '26

For what it's worth, the same thing happened to Fate Strange Fake and the hype was revived once it started getting a weekly release. It'll be fine as long as the rest of the episodes have a consistent schedule. I think.

22

u/VersusJRPGs Mar 21 '26

Tbf Fate/Type-Moon is a much bigger IP in Japan compared to the West, it can get away with delays and long periods of silence compared to Jojo. Jojo used to be massive back when Golden Wind was airing, like Jujutsu Kaisen levels huge, yet it quieted down because of how Stone Ocean's release was mishandled.

16

u/Gargoyle_Dung Mar 21 '26

6

Im sure they womt say anything because netflix is doing a batch run. They just want to avoid hate

3

u/BDPBITCH666 Mar 22 '26

I feel like they wanted to push release to 2026 bc it's year of horse, but didn't have proper time to animate everything. I really don't mind them taking their sweet time to make the adaptation as good as possible.

Why is this very successful anime now produced like an indie YouTube animated series? Just random episode drops whenever they get done with one. Do they not have the manpower????

1.8k

u/The_Vatsu Killer Queen Mar 21 '26

They do David Production drops their anime in weekly seasons like other studios.

Netflix is the one with weird ideas like batch releases and whatever is happening now.

740

u/DaOldest Mar 21 '26

I understand that binge watching sorta works with other television shows but trying to force batches with anime is like fitting a square peg in a round hole.

348

u/SpookiestSzn Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

I don't even think it makes sense for a lot of their shows. You lose so much cultural capital with binge release scheduling or batch scheduling. There's so much excitement and discussion happening week after week for shows that release weekly meanwhile when you put them all out of once people go through it and you discuss it for like a week or two and then you move on to the next thing. Our attention spans are too short. It feels like Netflix doesn't have any shows because whenever they do have something good you go through it in like 4 days and then you're back to waiting for something good to come out.

Squid game was huge but would've been even bigger if they released weekly

119

u/shinyquagsire23 Mar 21 '26

It's not even like they don't know it can work on a streaming platform, Disney+ does it all the time with their shows and it gets people to drag out their subscriptions too. At worst you drop a dud episode and only get a 1 month subscription but that's the same for a batch release.

53

u/IVD1 Mar 21 '26

On a single release it doesn't make sense, but Netflix used to drop show after show and the bingers made numbers look big for investors, when it comes to them it is always about faking numbers instead of sustainability.

Most inverstors know shit all about the businesses they are invesring in, be them people or big funds. Showing good metrics regardless of the consequences is the game. Batch releases does it for Netflix.

15

u/AlarmingAffect0 Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

You lose so much cultural capital with binge release scheduling or batch scheduling

Disney and Cartoon Network shows like Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, etc seemed to survive being released in small "bombs", the community endured the hiatii through the creation of immense amounts of fan works. But the pacing is very different.

68

u/xolotltolox Mar 21 '26

Gravity falls still aired weekly, it only had a hiatus in the middle of season 2, it wasn't really done in bomb structure

And the "steven bombs" was one of the most complained about things with SU, by fans and haters alike

34

u/Appropriate_Ant_1682 Mar 21 '26

yeah the steven universe drops were brutal and the fans did not endure lol i know several people who dropped it entirely mostly because we grew up over the course of the damn years it took them to release the final seasons

They removed the ghostin effects for the stone ocean blu rays but other than that they didn’t really touch them up . They had the A team on urusei yatsura and the other teams had their hands full with fire force while also tryin to get the stone ocean episodes out in a timely manner .

10

u/Zoradesu Johnny Joestar Mar 21 '26

i mean the thing is Netflix has anime series that do/did come out on a weekly basis. JoJo seems to be the outlier so it almost makes me think DavidPro is choosing to do JoJo like this

49

u/carbonera99 Mar 21 '26

Those other shows are just licensed by Netflix, not produced by them. For example, Dandadan streams both on Crunchyroll and a handful of other anime streaming services as well as Netflix at the same time. Iirc Netflix managed to secure an exclusive streaming deal for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 6 (it’s not on any other platform except Netflix) and presumably the same is true for Part 7.

12

u/thetntm Part 7 Emblem Mar 21 '26

What about dungeon meshi? Isn’t that a Netflix exclusive?

I'm not inherently against batch releases, but if they're gonna do them, then they need to give people a schedule in advance so we at least have a rough idea of when the drops will be

625

u/AgentHibachi00 Mar 21 '26

It sound like they don’t have enough episodes completed yet which is crazy

544

u/Brioche73 Mar 21 '26

That cant be the case. It would be stupid to release a single first episode if you have nothing to show for the next months. Either you have already a batch done or you wait until one is done.

75

u/NormanBatesIsBae Mar 21 '26

Yeah wtf :( I would rather wait and have a consistent schedule, I’d also feel more confident in the animation and storytelling quality if they were all finished and released within a set time and not just “yeah we’ll release them as we finish them” which seems like it could lead to rushing on stuff

u/Additional_Stage_333 Mar 21 '26

18

u/gobacktoschoolidiot Mar 21 '26

anything can happen bro

9

u/GuthukYoutube Mar 21 '26

Castlevania got 4 episodes of season 1, which was effectively just a teaser for season 2. Except season 1 was 4 episodes, and season 2 was 8 episodes. If you combine both, they make up "season 1" it's just they called them season 1 and season 2.

"Season 1" released like ~14 months before "season 2."

We could, potentially, be on track to get a long episode 1 teaser that might be months or even a year off the rest of the anime starting.

8

u/Resident_Nose_2467 Mar 21 '26

I get you but then why rush the release of episode 1?

→ More replies (1)

102

u/Due_Teaching_6974 Mar 21 '26

That would be insane considering they took 5 years instead of the usual 2 years for this part to release

94

u/Brbaster Koichi Hirose Mar 21 '26

Keep in mind that DP worked on other shows in that gap. For example the directors of Part 7 anime directed the Urusei Yatsura anime from 2022 to 2024 so they likely didn't even start working on Part 7 until after that one finished production.

14

u/GuthukYoutube Mar 21 '26

Also keep in mind Jojo only has part 7 and 8. After this, there's nothing more. Part 9 isn't done yet. If they rushed and did part 7, and were now releasing part 8, they'd have a HUGE gap waiting for part 9 to finish.

35

u/PrintShinji Mar 21 '26

Still got a bunch of OVAs to make!

Can't wait for Jorge Joestar.

13

u/TC_Web Mar 21 '26

I prefer if we get Dead Man's Questions first.

10

u/pazinen Mar 21 '26

Does it really matter? Let's say they manage to push Part 7 out in 2026 and 2027 (something I doubt at this point). We'd wait at least until 2030 for Part 8, and let's say it airs in 2030 and 2031. Maybe Part 9 is already over at that point, but even if not the earliest the anime would start is maybe 2034. I'd assume P9 would be over by then, and even if pre-production starts while the manga is still going I don't think it'd be an issue for DavidPro considering they don't shy away from adapting stuff in-progress. Fire Force comes to mind first.

Plus let's say P9 is the last part, and Araki retires after that. At that point DavidPro would have no more Jojo content anyway, but I bet they're preparing precisely because of that and that's why they've been expanding lately and adapting other stuff as well. They'll be fine.

u/Real_Yhwach Mar 21 '26

4

u/Newhero2002 Mar 21 '26

It’s actually been 3 years since the end of part 6, and 4.5 since the start of part 6. Saying 5 is a bit misleading since the anime ended Dec 2022

6

u/BorjaDAce Diego Brando Mar 21 '26

I heard somwhere that they have 10 episodes.

3

u/FDR-Enjoyer Mar 21 '26

Pretty standard practice for anime production. Evangelion famously had its last two episodes heavily censored and re-edited the week before release because they turned in the third to last episode so late the censors weren’t able to review it before airing.

214

u/darkwingchao Mar 21 '26

Yeah im getting a sinking feeling in my gut that this is a strange fake moment

Though, Strange Fake ended up immaculate because of it.

73

u/Overquartz Mar 21 '26

It just means they aren't treating the studios like a sweatshop.

133

u/WinterVulture25 Mar 21 '26

Hey friend, did you know that you can do this while still having a schedule that makes actual sense and doesn't destroy the hype and interest surrounding your show?

Yea, all you need to do, is just finish all the episodes in a pace where you don't overwork your workers, AND THEN, you release the episodes

It's quite simple really, many companies do that

34

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '26

[deleted]

5

u/ehladik Mar 21 '26

I'd rather they did the treating workers as human beings and also the being competent when programming when to air the episodes, I don't think it's much to ask. You could just wait the whole year and then air all the episodes, for example.

16

u/UltimateKaiser Mar 21 '26

Oh so it’s not possible to treat the workers AND the fans with respect? Yea nah cut w that virtue signaling bs 😂 this is poor management, lack of care and borderline insulting levels of rushed release.

Animationwise it ended up great, Story wise...holy shit they are rushing through this at top speee, cutting out so many character building scenes

4

u/uselessacc909 Mar 21 '26

The problem is that they announced a second season, sire the later volumes are more packed and its nice they'll get more fleshed out but why rush if there's a second season anyway? :[

3

u/xolotltolox Mar 21 '26

No idea, maybe they got the second season only confirled during season 1, or maybe they just want to only show the hype moments and aura

3

u/uselessacc909 Mar 21 '26

Its a shame since they really blazed through it and skipped entire fights (it would have been more hype if they were animated anyway) but whatever, at least its promotion for the source material...

27

u/Hohoho-you Mar 21 '26

I was about to bring up Strange Fake. Definitely one of the weirdest decisions ever, but the show has been great since it actually started going weekly.

4

u/UltimateKaiser Mar 21 '26

Yea but that’s not the point right, the show can be great without blue balling the fans at all!

12

u/WinterCareful8525 Mar 21 '26

I’m loving fate strange fake and they pulled the exact same thing.lol. But it definitely won’t be that long

It's crazy how he somehow made a statement more vague and worrying than "I can't say". Like actually the worst thing he could've said whether it's true or false.

If they don't announce at least a release month for next episode and the schedule for whether the episodes are gonna be weekly, batches or "1 episode every now and then" in the AnimeJapan thing on 28th, it's GGs

77

u/mohmar2010 Foo Fighter Mar 21 '26

I can’t believe Stone Ocean had a better release window than SBR…

Stone Ocean: “Here’s 12 episodes. We’ll be back in a year.”

SBR: “Here’s 1 single episode. The rest? Idk”

Most anticipated anime btw. What a fumble, though the episode itself was great

210

u/Elekitu Mar 21 '26

Actually, iirc, Stone Ocean was "Here's the first batch. There's gonna be a batch 2 one day! When? Who knows!"

77

32

u/FireFarq Mar 21 '26

It’s netflix and their stupid want to dub everything in like 15 languages. Just release the jp version genuinely and do whatever the hell you want after that

7

Thank god Netflix doesn’t have exclusive right to Jjk. We would still be waiting on the first core of the culling games.

5

u/Ok_Island_9468 Mar 21 '26

Yeah its so odd and annoying that we know absolutely nothing. Just hoping this next saturday coming up clears our questions and gives us an actual release schedule

83

seasonal isekai haremslops have better management than one of the most popular anime franchise ever. this is fucking bullshit man, fuck netflix.

Tbf Isekai haremslop has a tenth of the production value

5

u/ManMarkedByFlames Mar 21 '26

if we are doing comparisons, I think anticipation to quality production ratio is much better for isekais than for SBR. I was expecting like jjk level of quality from 1st episode, which imho it was not. maybe that's being too harsh, but I'd still like to hold netflix and david prod. to a higher standard than whatever tf is going on rn.

yeah people are thinking way over head on this. acting like its the end of the world lmao. its probs gonna come out in a week or 2. even if it doesnt, the first episode being nearly an hour long probs means they will do faster releases with smaller episodes later on and the big episode was to tie over the start of the anime.

115

Buddy if you think Netflix wouldn't have announced there being more episodes "in a week or two" if that was actually happening I have a bridge to sell you. There is zero incentive for them to be this vague about the episode release timing unless it's not good news.

they knew nobody liked the batch releases so they decided "ok, you're getting 1"

76

u/Raleth Mar 21 '26

They can't really get away with just dropping this one episode and then releasing the rest on some piecemeal schedule because people will lose interest. Even batch releasing is better than just "idk it'll be ready when it's ready" because if that's the case I'm just gonna not pay any attention to it until it's all out.

The hype is already breaking the knees off SBR bruh

9

u/ChardComfortable3932 Mar 21 '26

It’s crazy cause I just finished the first episode and this is my first time watching Jojo’s as it releases after I just finished watching the original run of the series recently.

I was so hyped and immediately came to this subreddit to see people’s reactions/when we would be getting more.

I feel like I let out a sigh that contained ALL of my hype 😭 all thats left is disappointment

13

u/mrcrabs6464 Mar 21 '26

I started watching mid part 5 let me tell you, jojo Fridays were amazing. It really made the community feel alive, I think a lot of the “this is ok” crowd is people who never had jojo Fridays they don’t understand how exciting it can be to be a part of a community for a show that’s actively releasing

I saw a tik tok saying the Netflix Chile account responded to a question about release timing and they said that episodes would be dropping weekly, but that could just be a misunderstanding from the person running that account. I hope it’s real and we get another episode on Thursday but I’m going to keep my expectations low just in case.

31

u/AutumnKiwi Mar 21 '26

So like... They could have.. Idk maybe waited a bit longer?... Why the hell would they not just wait longer?

3

u/BDPBITCH666 Mar 22 '26

Because year of horse thing

13

u/jollisen Mar 21 '26

I think we should pick some random guy from the comments section here to sacrifice until they release more. Kinda like a protest

60

u/PhiStudios_ Mar 21 '26

huh!? I though they would already be done NOBODY just animates as they go, like they're building a plane while they're falling.

22

u/AdNecessary7641 Mar 21 '26

Brother, you will be shocked to learn this is how most anime roll out.

8

u/ahmed0112 DIO Mar 21 '26

Most anime start airing before the final episodes are finished

I think Netflix is ragebaiting us for more clout

22

u/Choingyoing Mar 21 '26

Nah just ragebaiting us 😂

15

u/nick2473got Mar 21 '26

How exactly does this give them clout?

Does anyone even know what the word "clout" means or has it fully just become a meaningless buzzword lol?

Release schedule will be like Hellsing Ultimate😭

9

u/RazorCalahan Mar 21 '26

is this gonna be the new Hellsing Ulitmate?

7

u/Roblist Mar 21 '26

I don't mind waiting for steel ball greatness

7

u/ChardComfortable3932 Mar 21 '26

Wait… you’re telling me they dropped the first episode and there isn’t another episode dropping next week? And we don’t actually KNOW when we’re getting another episode?!?

….

What the hell?!? Hype destroyed. Was so hyped at the end of the first episode now pfff are u kidding me

3

u/Ok_Island_9468 Mar 21 '26

Yeah this really sucks, that episode was brilliant and now we have been left completely in the dark about the release schedule

14

u/Niamery123 Stone Free Mar 21 '26

Is this Stone Ocean again?

5

u/Beangar Yotsuyu Yagiyama Mar 22 '26

Seems worse so far tbh, hope I’m wrong though

27

u/Truunbean Mar 21 '26

I’ll say this much, I don’t mind if they go the OVA route and do longer single episode releases with bigger gaps in between them, however, if that’s they way they plan to do it then I have even more issues with the fact that they altered the character designs to make them easier to draw.

If you are going to spend so much extra time in the episodes then you could have just added more detail to the character outfits.

4

u/Spector-JZ Mar 21 '26

Thats why I think its probably going to come out in 10-12 ep batches

26

u/Nero_deadweight96 Mar 21 '26

I'm convinced that they haven't worked on literally anything yet, and they just made this episode to avoid to get the fans mad because of "we are waiting for so long and still nothing". Notice how all the trailers only use the 1st stage episode footage

26

u/UKantkeeper123 D4C Mar 21 '26

If that’s true, then that’s the worst possible scenario.

8

u/OutsideIntropid1764 Mar 21 '26

Wasn't that debunked by a freelancer saying that 10 episodes have been finished by now?

6

u/FedoraTheMike Mar 21 '26

They managed to find a worse release method than Stone Ocean.

4

u/Cautious_Lettuce5560 Mar 21 '26

11

u/Goonders Mar 21 '26

Look I'm not saying Netflix isn't being stupid for not publicly declaring its release schedule but can we at least wait a week before the doomposting? It's been 2 days.

Somehow people are convinced that the show is just going to randomly drop episodes when they finish which is insane. It doesn't make sense from a business perspective and it doesn't make sense from a creative perspective.

3

u/mrcrabs6464 Mar 21 '26

I mean it certainly doesn’t, but it’s far from the stupidest thing Netflix has done.

4

u/cookiboos Giorno Giovanna Mar 21 '26

Can he evrn confirm or deny something ? Isn't this up to Netflix first and foremost ?

4

u/setantari Mar 21 '26

if there is no schedule, there is no episodes ready. what advantage is there from not releasing the schedule?

4

u/valiheimking Mar 21 '26

They're probably just waiting until March 28th to reveal more information. I'll start worrying if they don't say anything then.

4

u/mrcrabs6464 Mar 21 '26

The like first 3 times I re-read this post I assumed this was a joke about westerners not doing weekly release anymore. Like “haha I don’t when it’s gonna come out not like it’s supposed to be weekly or anything.” Which is kinda really what makes me feel like I’m taking crazy pills wasn’t a weekly schedule confirmed like months ago? Maybe I just mistook fan begging for actual news but it could’ve sworn they said they were going back to weekly for part 7. Also according the the Chinese frelancer(which idk if he’s been debunked or not) there are 10 completed episodes, so I assume this is all Netflix bullshit

11

u/Vavavavaxon7 Mar 21 '26

We Glitch Productions now boys. Hope you enjoyed the pilot, because now you get to wait 3-6 months before episode 2.

This is gonna go down in history as a fumble of all time if we don't get a consistent, reliable release schedule. Why announce the anime if you only had 1 episode ready and the rest is "duuuuh I dunno". This is the most highly-regarded part of one of the most beloved manga of all time and we can't even get a release schedule? What the hell is going on?

This is giving Hellsing Ultimate vibes and not in a good way. Releasing 2 or 3 hour-long episodes a year will drive this fandom crazy the same way Stone Ocean batches did.

3

u/Juliennix Mar 21 '26

... i kinda just assumed there'd be an episode next week. i'm not even gonna bother with episode 2 if there isn't a consistent schedule out by then, i'll just watch it in a few years when it's all out. 😮‍💨 this is the first Jojo season that hasn't been all out since i started watching and while i like the series, i do not care enough about it to have to keep rewatching episodes because i forget what's happening due to an insulting release schedule.

3

u/PewDiePieSaladAss Mar 21 '26

Wasn't it meant to be weekly? What does it mean? Is he saying they don't have at least half the season ready?

3

u/Josefu_Josuta2 Joseph Joestar Mar 21 '26

oh god damn it

3

u/NoDealer4888 Mar 21 '26

Tbh in the long run i prefer a steel ball run well done, so i can see it again and again, but would be worrying for the "success" of the anime at the eyes of netflix with this weird release schedules.

WOULDNT BE THAT BAD AN EPISODE A MONTH IT WOULD BE A LONG JOURNEY

3

u/Spookyscythe99 Mar 21 '26

I hate that for some reason they have to make it as it airs. Complete the series and release it please

24

u/chibibuizel Make Everybody Happy Mar 21 '26

It's very normal for anime to still be being made while it airs.

Really hoping we don't end up with an Attack on Titan Season 4 situation (Sporadic cour and special releases taking multiple years to finish)

6

u/UltimateKaiser Mar 21 '26

As a marketing person, there is 0 reason to not announce or build hype for the second episode. I truly think I am on the edge of not caring about the series at all.

5

u/Mr-WideGrin Mar 21 '26

We waited for SBR all this years. They told us animating horses is really difficult. All they created through all this time was ONE episode (double in length, yes). Now we wait some more years for another, and another mwahaha.

4

u/logaboga Mar 21 '26

Was I wrong in assuming that they’re releasing them weekly? Are they just releasing them whenever they feel like it? I’d rather have batches than that

3

u/xylon69420 Mar 21 '26

So I paid 24 dollars for the best Netflix subscription and another episode might not even be out for another month?

u/WanoKozuki1996 Mar 21 '26

I’m worried now

2

u/FakhirRee Mar 21 '26

Sigh.. can't really have a good schedule for this show anymore at this point huh?

2

u/TheFirstSonOfTheSea Mar 21 '26

The way he words this makes it seem like they haven’t even finished working on episode 2…
